Morning all,

Nice and bright here in the Thames Valley after last night's downpour (it's good for the garden! - which is actually looking quite nice in the parts that don't look like a builder's yard). Scaffolders arrived late but were finished in just over 3 hours and away to their next job at 16.15, must have got home about midnight so all is hopefully set for the pv panel installers arriving tomorrow.

memo to self - Must book hotel for Members' Day

Morning all!

Are we laying odds on the Great ERs Golf Contest? I'll put a pound on Dave to win...

Very humid here in Edinburgh. Was raining at 7, but has dried up now, but so sauna-like...

Busy day for me. Leaving lunch for a friend from my old job, evening reception in Scottish Parliament, then birthday drinks for a friend's 30th in the Parliament bar afterwards. Must fit in some work at some point too...

I admit I'm quite surprised how poor many UK courier services appear to be. A few months ago, our DHL driver even told us that their routes would be modified soon, so that we should expect any future DHL parcels to normally arrive after noon. I also usually tip all deliverymen, as I'm sure they cannot earn all that much, given the attitudes of all too many employers around here.

"(a continuous-ink system for my printer)"

How does that work, Debs?

The only continuous system I have is the drain on my wallet buying silly little cartridges at inflated prices.

CISS it`s a brilliant idea: a tank of 3/4/6 inks (as appropriate for your printer) linked to a flat/ribbon of tubing which passes inside the printer to a replacement print-head (with manual reset button to stop the printer whinging after it asserts too many pages have been printed).......copious ink on tap and print as much as you like.

*Units are specific to make and model of printer......

I'm expecting a delivery today but it will be via DPD from Amazon so they have already informed me of my delivery time this afternoon.

Next week John Lewis have arranged a collection and a delivery. The kettle we bought 2 1/2 years ago has started leaking. I noticed that on their website a lot of people commented that this kettle usually starts leaking just after the 3 year warranty! It isn't manufactured any more so we were told to choose another, the new one is slightly cheaper so we will get a credit as well. Seems rather good to me!

I bought some Sainsbury's own brand inks for my Canon MP640 and was really disappointed. They appeared to clog the print heads (particularly the cyan) and provided pretty awful quality prints.

Do let us know Debs what the quality is like with the CISS system.

Wow! Thanks Debs.

Have you had a chance to compare ink colours?

The 'refill' type inks I've tried seem to contain less pigment that the originals giving a slightly faded look to prints.

My buddy has the same printer as I, and has had a CISS for several months since; the inks (to my eyes) in his set-up seem the same quality/hues/colour-depth as factory carts. (there are photo-quality 'dye' bulk-ink refills available from the same supplier, too)........and being set-free of any 'ink-cost consciousness' means I`ll enjoy my photography much more.

A set of four Epson carts. for my printer, cost 35% more than the CISS I`ve just purchased......so, it`s a "no-brainer". :good:

I was going to note the thing about 'use of other inks invalidates the warranty' etc but it in this day & age it's probably just as cheap to buy another printer if the present one packs up. What irritates me tho' is the 'instant obsolescence' of printers and the problems in obtaining cartridges for older models.

How true. I wandered into Comet looking for new ink for my Epsom and came out with a new printer which was an all in one scanner, photocopier, etc because it was cheaper than the ink. How idiotic is that? I will say the Kodak ink is much cheaper but the ink doesn't seem to last very long, even the so called max cartridges.

The downside is I haven't been able to find a Ciss for the Kodak models. :-(

There doesn't appear to be a tank system for any of the printers I have access to. I don't appear to have my own dedicated printer, just network access to Aditi's (she has two printers) and Matthew's. My neighbour had until recently an Epson that was probably responsible for much of that company's cash flow.

Our HP printer uses the 364XL cartridges which seem to last well compared to other printers we have had in the past. I think our Samsung laser is one of the more economical laser printers. What I would like is a "black" cartridge full of white ink. That would be so good for making transfers (decals).

Layer of cirrocumuli forming up in the sky and the most recent METAR at 281220Z specifies 14006KT 110V170 CAVOK 29/16 Q1010. Thankfully, the second seminar later on will most likely be easy.

It's blinkin' 'ot here as well - but then it is Regatta Week and the weather should be good based on the normal auguries.

Anyway a day of 'achievement' so far - I've actually found and booked a specialist company to deal with the car's aircon troubles (allegedly a leaking condenser according to the dealership), got a hotel booked near Stafford for 3 nights next week for the Members' Day jaunt and an appropriate level of bribery of Mrs Stationmaster - who hopefully might not want to go on a factory shop expedition to Stoke this year (but to be honest I'm even worse if I get near a certain factory in Cobridge), reminded the pv installers to bring ladders as the scaffolders didn't leave one (at my request), done the shopping and got a Tesco 5p/litre off fuel voucher, and we had a flight of Spitfires over earlier this afternoon.

Latest news....Geoff romped home in the big match, with Eldavo second and yours truly trailing a distant third. However all was not total doom and gloom. Won the prize for the most lost balls, probably more than 6 but less than 10 and romped home in the downing a pint competition. I think the latter more than made up for the former....

Boy, was it hot though, even in shorts....
