A Jigsaw - with a decent blade fitted and a practice on some scrap if you don't use it that often. Checking which side to cut from would be worthwhile, as some (depending on the blade) can cause splintering on one side of the timber. Finish with suitable files etc. 2. A fret or coping saw. Much slower, but the results could be good. 3. A Router. Really nice finish, but messing about involved. 8 hours ago, PupCam said: Now ask me which of those two bikes started first kick and which wouldn't start and needed lots of pushing across the car park in attempts to bump start it. In other news: A bit of playing with the splurge gun (decorators caulk) on the last pieces of skirting finished yesterday, followed by some tidying of empty cardboard boxes filling the lounge (I'd like to get shot of them, but with the lounge to be refurbed next I know that some at least will come in useful). Then I have a upvc doorframe to clean (the kitchen side of what was the original back door to the garden, until the Conservatory was built); I should've done this sooner, before other activities such as architrave on an adjacent fame was fitted and walls painted so care needed in order not to bvgger up finished work. I've still had no interest in the almost broken Miele Vacuum I listed on Freecycle (apart from a couple of time-wasters who have since been blocked); I've just discovered that the Turbo Brush Head (it has air-driven revolving bushes inside) can sell for a worthwhile price on the 'bay. So I'll be removing it from the vacuum, giving it a clean & service then listing it. Worth a try for not a lotta work. 20
Andrew P
Dullish at the moment but that should brighten up about 11 when we are due to meet one of our Daughters and Husband for coffee at Stanstead House Garden Centre, it may involve a slice of Apple Pie, or cake from my side But always a good natter and put the World to rights. Time to get a shifty on, and it appears I missed yesterday on here as I was in a hurry to drive to Swindon, and the accros to Thatcham early morning so I hope I haven't missed any major event. Have a good day one and all, stay safe and keep well. 17

RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted August 19, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 19, 2021 Morning, mizzle cleared but it is very damp out, 13c earlier up to 16 now. Not a great forecast for the next few days either, bike and kayak plans look to be scuppered. Back to that brass loco kit then! Also have the joys of the 'sh!t kit' this week, eeuuw We still have the three flaps type, I have heard there are other versions now. Best wishes for your call Chris, the status quo sounds like a good outcome to hope for. 18
The Lurker
Greetings all from a Sidcup which is grey and still fairly cool. I was in the middle of a strange dream when I woke; what was happening seemed fairly reasonable to me at the time but the details have faded more quickly than the morning mist in the sun. It's pretty rare for me to wake at the dreaming part of the sleep cycle so I almost never recall having them. I hope that Chris' letter from the oncologist does not raise too many alarms. It's often said that far more men die with prostate cancer than of it. From here, that sounds comforting, but then again I don't have it. I am glad to read that Jamie is not suffering, apart from the frustration of isolation A work colleague yesterday seemed determined to fill my calendar with meetings on a certain topic, with little or no break between them. Eventually his boss pointed out that she had so many meetings that she didn't have time to do the work required for them. At which point the meeting, which we agreed should be immediately canned so we had an hour before the next, went on for another 20 minutes! Anyway more of the same beckons. Have a good day al 7 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted August 19, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 19, 2021 Morning all. We tidied the tidied the summerhouse (the shed with the rotten fascia) yesterday. Aditi had forbidden it to rain. Her car has the boot full of rubbish and I suspect the back seat will be folded down for more space before we set off to the recycling centre on Canvey after breakfast. It is quite overcast this morning. All of the UPVC garden furniture we store in the summerhouse is on the lawn ready to be cleaned. I can’t imagine we will be having enough visitors to use it this year. Strange to think we once thought we hadn’t got enough. Anyone looking over the fence would think we are having a garden party! RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 19, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 19, 2021 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis was noisy this morning but as usual moving around keeps him quiet. A big annoyance is that the BBC has dropped the local news/weather from the breakfast show. The national weather news is too general to give the information needed and if you blink you can miss the crucial bit of information. I need to keep an eye on the weather as there is a garden layout open this evening but there is also the possibility of rain so a more detailed weather forecast is essential. 12
jonny777
Cloudy but dry (I think) here in North Somerset. Radar suggests there maybe patchy drizzle in the vicinity but I'm too lazy to bother looking outside that closely. Swmbo is on her hols, so I have the place to myself, which imparts a kind of freedom that takes me by surprise.

I just love expanding my knowledge of all sorts of "technical" stuff so looks like engineering (across many disciplines) was the right career choice for me after all, all those years ago. Shame there wasn't a huge amount of money in it too but at least I don't actually have to go to work now http://www.hvtesla.com/masters/syncro_power_station_lit.html That site has been invaluable in setting up the master clock - they are fickle...... I actually have two clocks - one bought some time ago (just before lockdown 1) from ebay. The lying scrote seller stated that it had been in use until recently and I took him at his word, it being collected on my behalf by a family friend who lived close by. Lockdown happened so I didn't get to see it in the flesh until well after ebay's returns period. Anyway, long and short of it is that the clock could never have run as the suspension hanger was all but 'torn' through - in any case it looked as though it had been bodged anyway, along with many other aspects of the mechanism. I'm now on the lookout for some spring steel to make a new one - also the pendulum rod needs attention as well - the phrase 'caveat emptor' comes to mind. This one will be a long burning project methinks as I have many other things to do, also it is more than tinged with bitterness due to the lies told by the seller...... In other news, the usual South Derbyshire grey is lightening a bit and hopefully we'll see some sunshine soon. Best get some WFH done, though there is a distinctly CBA mood around - maybe I will go and 'marvel' at mi summershed clock Hope today is a good day for all - back later. 14
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted August 19, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 19, 2021 Good morning everyone Another dull start to the day here in England’s northwest. I have just taken delivery of a few items from a well known shop in Widnes, so I will be checking the contents very soon. Later on this morning I have a visit from an independent financial advisor with regard to my first company pension that I can now claim. Then this afternoon Charlie will be calling for his regular modelling tuition. It’s all go here isn’t it? Chrisf, I hope all goes well with your conversation with the oncologist. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. Brian
Popular Post tigerburnie
Morning, we have had overnight rain, dull and overcast just now, need to get the car tyres checked before our trip down for my brothers funeral, we too had an advisory on my MOT about a couple of months wear left on one. Tablets to collect from the chemist on the way back and then maybe some eyelid inspection later. Note to self and others who do a bit of the "G" word, before dead heading Roses, check that they are clear of bees first, I grabbed one yesterday complete with large bumble bee in residence, result was quite a bit of pain, a fair bit of bad language and I now have a rather swollen little finger today.....................

Some years ago when I was temporarily incapacitated with a passing but vicious stomach bug and therefore my guard was down (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it) I bid on a 1/4 scale Sopwith Pup airframe ("expertly built" of off Flea Bay from a bloke in County Durham or somewhere up there. Unfortunately I won the auction and sent him the money and I managed to get a friend who lived up that way to collect it and take it to a model show at RAF Cosford a few weeks later where it was collected by a mate who is a fellow model flyer and old bike enthusiast who lives a few miles from me. I duly collected the firewood (as that was just about all it was good for) and loosely assembled it at home where it was clear that no experts had been harmed in the building of that aeroplane! The lower starboard wing was more suitable for use as a propeller and as you can see, the engine mount and servo installation were particularly fine. He'd stuck the fin on 90 degrees out(!) and the markings were applied beautifully. I have no time or interest in rescuing such Pups excuse the pun so rather than burn it I foisted it on to a good friend who is extremely well versed at making silk purses out of sows ears and a very skilled chain saw carver to boot and little by little he is turning it into an aeroplane that will, one day, hopefully be seen flying over Tibenham airfield in Norfolk as part of the informal Dwarf Patrol "Team". Wish him luck! I had to put the loss of all those modelling tokens down to experience, it was good that my mate took the airframe off of me - I couldn't expect him to pay for it as well! Popular Post BlackRat
Afternoon one and all....... apologies for not having been on for some time, no excuses really, sometimes you just lose your mojo. Having said that life seems to be going as well as it could be, given the times we live in. Yesterday we celebrated our 37th anniversary AND it was a certain ladies 50th plus 10 birthday, so a great day was had. I'm back making things out of plasticard and MEK so I guess thing's are on the mend. I've ditched all of the tablets and blasting myself out in the gym 5 or 6 times a week, lost 21lbs and clothes now fit.......I occasionally even need a belt. World events put things a bit more into perspective, having lost the odd friend or 2 to the war in Afghanistan, and recent events in Keyham in Plymouth. I served the community there for almost 3 years, as the Keyham Neighbourhood Beat Manager, and even had a tea stop in Biddick, sad times indeed. Generic best wishes to one and all, commiserations where due and hopefully normal service will be resumed soon. 3
