RMweb Premium Popular Post Northroader Posted August 18, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2021 Q’s comments on muckspreading plus a collie dog, reminds me of a sight I saw when out walking once. A farmer was out in his field on his tractor, pulling a muckspreader which was throwing the stuff out about five foot in the air in all directions. His collie dog was following behind, and for entertainment, every so often when a really big lump came flying out, the dog would jump up in a graceful arc and catch it in his mouth. I hope Ben doesn’t try this. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted August 18, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2021 Good morning everyone Late on parade this morning, I had a birthday treat of breakfast in bed, we really should use bowls, as it’s a lot less messy, I have now completed 65 circuits of the sun! Anyway, apart from opening cards and presents, there isn’t a lot planned for today. Possibly lounging sitting around reading, drinking tea, doing sudoku puzzles and other such idle pastimes etc. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day,p back later. Popular Post Winslow Boy
So here I am sitting reading the various postings- speaking of which there number seems to down and not certain why?, when I should be out cutting grass. Why are you doing - that's the sitting down and reading posts by the way, that I hear you ask. Well its because its mizzling, that's a technical term for the release of excess vapour from above. Its a cross between a mist and a drizzle a shall resist the urge to say anymore but I think ck several of our far northern h contributors may be more familiar with it. It has been doing it for the better part of the morning. It was doing it yesterday as well. To say I am not happy is an understatement. Doesn't the Boss upstairs know I have jobs to do that do not require the presence of said water. If it does it tomorrow I will even more disappointed/annoyed/upset - take your pick as we are expecting a new telly and grass will be even more requiring a cut. Beautiful morning here on the Costa, Only a few white fluffy clouds in an otherwise blue sky with bright sunshine. Best wishes to Brian the birthday boy, and those with ailments of whatever kind . RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted August 18, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2021 Friend visited, doing really quite well, holding his own which is great news. He's a nice bloke and as he was a theatre scrub nurse, understands only too well what is happening to his body. As t' Wimslow chap describes, mizzle is the default weather setting oop north at the moment, sick of it. So much for August. Our grass also is in need of attention, and is reaching a length that is going to make it difficult to cut. Pah.

But it does mean that I don't have to go out and water the plants 11 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 18, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 18, 2021 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Many happy returns Brian and many more of 'em. Went to Tess Coes just before lunch and managed to snaffle the very last bread pudding. Got to get on as there is an EGM at the model railway club tonight as it is about to re-open after eighteen months shutdown. 16 2
Popular Post Ian Abel
Happy birthday Brian @BSW01 HUMP day... distracted the past few days and a couple of times I was going to post got errors saying RMWeb was AWOL! Weekend was busy, happy hour here Friday, Saturday private party for the opening of our friends' sons restaurant. Work "continues" - apparently the client on Long Island has signed a new SOW for 52-weeks of my time! Weather has been relatively pleasant, not too hot although little or no rain for days still, drought conditions/warnings and we now have forest fires in northern Minnesota. This evening we have a choir rehearsal for tomorrows memorial service of our recently departed choir member not the way any of us wanted our first rehearsal in over 18 months to go, but we will provide some uplifting music in her memory. 20 first thing, sunny and air quality still good, expecting 32 for the high. Carry on.
simontaylor484
Afternoon all Happy birthday Brian The weather here is certainly back endish rather than August. Wall to wall cloud and blustery. Hope Jamie hasnt lost the will to live watching Cbeebies especially when they repeat the same programme in the afternoon 14
RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted August 18, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2021 ' afternoon all from red dragon land. This morning, the top left hand corner of Wales mostly hidden in the mist of low rain cloud. Sun made a few vain attempts at coming out. Drying out but still cloudy. The VW (The Prisoner) bus decal decorations are nearing completion. I printed off some more rear number plates, yesterday, and varnished them after lunch. Although I, eventually, got one stuck on last week, the "white" letters & number (tax1) looked brownish so I wanted to replace it. Fussy? Yup! I have also printed off "the village" and "Portmeirion" logos to stick on the back of the van. Not sure how they will look - it will all be trial and error and, fingers crossed, I will be able to use at least one of them to add interest at the rear end! Not a lot going on this week so a few pics from last week - A walk from the nature reserve at Abergwyngregyn on the road that also leads to the Aber Falls Distillery & Visitor Centre, formerly a drinks wholesaler. Note the Jn No. and arrow on the the silo pointing the way! At the nature reserve, there was a large car parked in front of the gate to the path leading to Llanfairfechan instead of in the carpark and half a dozen people got out with several dogs and went off that way, so we went in the opposite direction towards Bangor along a short bit of tarmac. Looking towards the valley (dip in the landscape) that leads to the Aber Falls. Litter! A sign of the times! And just as bad, on the second part of the walk towards Llanfairfechan, a very fresh looking tied up black doggy poopbag on the grass verge not far from the gate! Just left to rot or for someone else to dispose of it! I did not notice the mask until I got home and looked through the photos, and nearly cropped it but thought better of it! Well, it adds a bit of interest... history... social behaviour.... Towards Bangor, footpath on the right raised above the beach . The grass marks the end of the raised path. Thereafter, it is down on the beach. We walked a little way and then turned back. The view looking back towards Llanfairfechan and the Great Orme. Then back to the gate, across the river and carry on eastwards. A suitable resting place where the path leaves the beach and carries on behind the hedgerow, behind, ...and admire the view out to sea before returning to the car, and home. Back to the present and time to get dinner.
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted August 18, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 18, 2021 A somewhat reasonable day for Bear; a diddy bit of painting carried out - which has subsequently allowed the final fitting of the very last small pieces of skirting. Then it was time for sorting & planning the wall tile layout (Mk.2 version), which was well worth doing and the final result is a great improvement over Mk.1; all I need now is a Tiler - thoughts of doing the thing myself if it stretches out for too long are gradually creeping into Bear's bonce.... Then it was a meet-up with a couple of buddies from the Model Engineering Evening Class; the Cafe (not one I've ever been to before) had a 5/5 rating for cleanliness proudly displayed in the window (always a good start), parking in a nearby side road was a doddle (I'm not big on car parks if I can possibly avoid them - too many clumsy door denting c*ckwombles) and only three other customers in the place, despite it being 1pm. Result. The food was both good and decently priced, though the other guys went for sarnies so Bear dodged the full english and a S&B Baguette arrived instead. The two hours of banter was good, ending with one of the guys presenting both of us with a display of unwanted tools in the boot of his car and inviting us to help ourselves; Bear scored a very nice Record wood plane and also a Monodex cutter - which IIRC is capable of cutting sheet metal without distortion (though I've never tried one). Could prove useful for certain activities me thinks... Also achieved is the transfer of a GSM relay board from the EE to Vodaphone networks, preserving the old number and credit balance in the process. Initial results are looking good, with the board confirming a decent network signal strength All I need to do now is swap my mobile phone network in a similar manner, now that Vodaphone seems to play nicely in Bear Towers..... 19

Popular Post leopardml2341
Evenin' Back from the Swedish shop where I bought everything I needed and some things I didn't. This is the first shop I've visited where the vast majority of people were NOT wearing masks, out of respect for others I donned mine as is my usual m.o. when indoors in public places. Also treated miself to mi tea whilst I was there and now I'm back home with a full belly I'm less inclined to want to tick some more jobs off the list Bye for now, from a distinctly lazy feeling Leopard. What makes getting off mi @rse and doing something useful even less likely is that there is an equally lazy JRT trying to get as close to me as he possibly can without actually getting inside my skin Edited August 18, 2021 by leopardml2341

Popular Post pH
The squirrels here appear to be stocking up for the winter already. The communication wires here (phone and cable TV) are used as squirrel pathways. The ones across the street from us run through the branches of various trees, one of them being a walnut tree. Several times a day I see a squirrel running along the wires with an unripe walnut in its mouth, heading for the conifers where they seem to have dens. (Not the same squirrel every time. We have greys, blacks and browns, and I see ones of various colours doing this.)
