When my wife and I first lived in Benfleet (in the late 1970s) we didn't have a car. Big shopping was restricted to what would would fit in a shopping trolley after a trip to Southend on the train, or what I could get in the box on the back of my motorbike. Getting a car was quite liberating, we no longer had to wait for delivery of anything that would fit in the back of a Chevette, and we could go to places where the trains didn't go. I've never done my food shopping online but it does seem to be popular round here. Some days when I'm doing the shopping at our local Tesco there seem to be more staff filling the giant internet shopping trolleys than there are ordinary shoppers.

Yes. Thankfully one of the buses was empty and the other was quite empty. One of he drivers is dead and the other critical so they may never fully findout what happened.

Good morning Mick, and all later risers.

An absolutely beautiful mornimg here.

Clear sky, no wind, but promising to reach 30 by midday!

Yesterday was also a stinker, but I'm not complaining!

I'd rather have this than rain.

MIKE! We haven't had an update on Jamie for ages! Full report please, and a photo would be nice.

Robert, ditto about Thomas.

Happy Thursday everybody.

Morning all

Very heavy white frost here too, with clear blue skies.

The lighter mornings seem to have appeared suddenly this year rather than creeping up on us. Perhaps it is because, up to now, it has been dark and grey, even at midday.

Another 14 weeks or so and the mornings start drawing in again.

Speaking of gloom merchants someone was heard to say 'while you are working you can look forward to retirement but when you are retired like me there is only death to look forward to and there is no time off and you have to do weekends as well' He also confirmed it will rain next week but he didn't specify where.

Heard that gardening may be hazardous for your health this morning. Legionnaire's Disease in bags of compost. The things some people sniff these days.....

Must remember to don face mask and protective suit next time the border plants go in.

Morning all,

only about 7 oktas have mustered here this morning and clearly there's something funny going on with the outdoors temperature as neither of my display units will tell me what the sensor's indicating!

Still, another day another dollar! No delivery this morning so I'm off to stand in a train shop for the day (and hopefully get paid too!)

Morning All,

Another last post for me this morning. I've been in the office since 06:30 - but didn't get around to posting.

It is a lovely morning here - sunshine, and broken cloud.

Have a good day everyone :icon_wave:

Morning All, Fair few oktas in evidence today. Late posting this morning as for some reason Firefox decided it didn't want me to use the keyboard so evertything delayed till I got round to re-starting it! No excitement today just meetings in the office. Have a safe one all.

Cheers

Dave

Hello,

Very few clouds here, but not very warm. The east wind seems to have gone. The postman has just delivered some carriages and trucks. Seems like quite a good start to the day!

I've just found an old kepi blanc in my compost bag. Is that a sign of legionnaire's disease...?

Dave.

Afternoon

Didn't check in this morning as I had an early start at the fracture clinic, followed by a GP appointment and a visit to the office to discuss a possible return to work.

Specialist's happy for me to go back, and physio also has OK'd a return, but on restricted hours until my arm gets a bit more strength. So I'm planning to get back on Monday, and GP has signed me back as fit to work from Monday, and I am back for four hours a day for the first week, then a phased ramp up of the hours til I am fully back in harness.

I'll try to get back on here again before I do go back to the grind.

Regards

Stewart

Oh boy  . Just read a piece of news describing how a man from Braunschweig was unable to get to sleep and thus decided to fell a tree in the middle of the night. A neighbour was alarmed by the clattering of his ladder, though, and summoned the police, fearing a burglary. The man could clear up the matter in the end, though.

Evening all! Been a hectic day. I'll do a proper update on Jamie soon - need to take a decent photo of her first!

Going to be a hectic weekend too. Going to Glasgow via Glasgow, Durham, Skipton, Durham and Skipton... I wish I got air miles for the amount of driving I do...

I was wrong about today looking good. My brother phoned to say that our mother had died this morning. He and his partner were going to take her shopping but it appears that she died in her sleep. I'm glad it was peaceful. She did have quite a few ailments but she was still quite mentally sharp. She wouldn't have liked to have deteriorated to the point where she was in a nursing home.
