Bon voyage, Tony.

If you get a spare minute, maybe you could try and get to the bottom of the recent Kennedy assassination? Time that one was cleared up?!

Always wondered what Oregon was like. Only ever got to Washington, NY and San Diego myself. So no idea about the country at all!

Off to "Southern Manufacturing" today.

Catch up later.

Andy

Edit - I forgot Boston!

:bye: Morning all!............Expecting to see our last Navy Carrier (HMS Illustrious) sail-by during our beach walkies this morning; she`ll pass within 250 metres of the strand line, so will certainly make for an impressive sight......the 'light' isn`t good for photography at the moment; but perhaps an improvement will happen in time, and I`ll get some shots of Lady Lusty. :boast:

Wishing you all, a lovely day.......... :good:

Don

the chicken is to give you the strength you need for a quick (!) getaway

The US Immigration guys are only doing their job - I had very few problems on my various business and holiday trips there - its just they don't understand that one day the Queen will be back in charge in our largest Colony  (steps back and heads for the hills!)

Have a great day from a blue sky coated Leeds!

Hi all,

I was on earlier catching up on yesterdays posts and completely forgot that I hadn't posted myself.

Happy Valentines day!

I will be keeping a very low profile!

Today's menu proclaims to be a Valentine special featuring crumbed chicken, nice enough, but I fail to see the Valentine connection

Bright though cloudy early morning wth 26C forecast.

It rained overnight.

Bon voyage Tony.

Breaded chicken. A way of glamming-up an old bird? Suspect that's the connection, Don.

Morning, dry and still for a change!

Would enjoy seeing the 'Lusty' Debs, as an ex-salt myself.

Speaking of which, the treatment of officers and crew on British vessels visiting the US by immigration was nothing short of disgusting, back in the 70's.  We always had valid entry and work visas (yes, a work visa to work as an officer on your own ship.....) but still were treated like criminals.  The 'short arm' inspection had only just been done away with not that many years before....when crew and officers had line up and expose themselves for inspection for VD.  I ask you.....

Mind you, that guy at Manchester that wanted me to hop through the detector wasn't too nice either!!!!

By contrast, when flying into and out of the States leaving or joining a vessel, I found them perfectly professional.  Odd.

I have no anti-American feelings, quite the opposite, as others have said I was always greeted with some interest by Americans and have several American friends via US modelling forums who have always impressed me with their honesty and openess.

Morning all.

Foul day down here, torrential rain and lots (and I mean LOTS) of surface water around, not good to hit at any sort of speed. In Peasenhall there was a torrent running down one of the main streets, a lovely light brown colour with the wash off the (already soaked) fields.

The boys were pleased as the snow had been washed off their backs but they were still out of camera range - wimps.

I did see a stoat (I think, it didn't look cunning enough to be a weasel), I was crawling to a very large puddle across a lane and noticed a movement, I stopped and watched the little thing snuffling for food. I waited for him/her to head off before leaving, and I went slow so as to not send a bow wave after him !

I forgot to mention that on the way to work yesterday I had a 5 minute pause to watch a barn owl hunting around the field margins near Heveningham - I hate the commute

Have a good day all.

Morning all.

I just turned my PC on to check that there are no train/underground problems. All seems Ok so I'll use plan A to get to Heathrow, (train to West Ham, Jubilee Line to Green Park then Piccadilly Line to Heathrow Terminal 5).

It seems a bit warmer this morning, hopefully next time I log on I should be in Texas.

Too late now but noooooooo. Green Park is the worst interchange possible. Miles of tunnel and stairs. On your return change to District line @ Barons Court. Then on to West Ham. Ask me how I know this.

Barons Court = cross platform

West Ham District to c2c is much easier and half the bag drag than changing from the Jubilee.

I will second that....we change at either Barons Court on way to Heathrow and Hammersmith on way back - much easier with cross plattform interchange.

What you might loose the speed on the Jubille line you gain by not walking miles.

Morning all

the rain appears to have moved on.

Neil I thought you were getting a bit personal describing Debs as 'Lusty' then when I caught up with the earlier posts I realised you were referring to a boat. Illustrious Lusty didn't see it at first.

Morning all

Grey and misty morning here. I've opened my Valentine's card : A young lady from 60 or more years ago is lying in bed, apparently asleep. "She wondered if it was time to let her Valentine up for air?" says the caption!

Must do some shopping today - living out of the freezer is easy for main meals, but I need milk, orange, bread, even my posh coffee (Nespresso machine).

Andrew C is right about interchanges Pickyerwilly/District. Barons Court is good, but Hammersmith was always my choice - same trains, just more going on, somehow. Even Acton Town is ok if you aren't in much of a hurry - by then you've lost both the Wimbledon (at Earls Court) and Richmond services, only leaving the Ealing Broadway trains. Some deep-level tube connections are ace - e.g. Oxford Circus Victoria/Bakerloo, but many are pure pants.

EDIT - Meant to add that my father served on a previous HMS Illustrious in the last war.

I began a small modding job on my Roco 143 this afternoon, but found the acrylic traffic red paint wouldn't suffice to conceal a pair of cabside logos I need to get rid of. I couldn't find any primer in my paints stash, so I guess a trip to the hobby shop will be called for tomorrow. I also need some basalt grey as I found I had run out of it as well.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

We actually started the day with some sunshine but it was short lived. Progress is being made with the cleaning ready for the family invasion tomorrow.

Taking time out for some pampering at the hairdresser's later this morning. All I need to do is to persuade O/H to do the Asda shop.

Enjoy today and tell someone who matters that you love them!

Remember as an East Anglian (adopted) country person, how to tell the difference - a weasel is weasily recognised, because a stoat looks stotally different - no problem!

Thanks, Jack, that might be worth a try, too! Actually, if the paint should end up slightly bleached after this procedure, it would add to the loco's appearance as stripped-off lettering is common enough over here.

Morning all,

And the sun is peeping out from between the clouds although it is probably still on the chilly side out there - I feel no need to check.  I never envy anyone trying to get to LHR from or via Central London although it isn't too bad from our side as there is a good 'bus service from Reading or the train via Paddington (which latterly was my preferred route) and I always found LGW a far more attractive proposition for access although oddly I rarely went that way as flight timings didn't work out.  Alas it was at times a bit of an imposition working in an office with a few aeroplane route bashing cranks who came up with some amazing ways of getting from London to Paris in pre-train days.

Nothing much going on today although I might have some news later on for DD if the catalogue proof is back from the printer.

Have a nice day one and all.

In my NSE HQ days, '89/90, my boss lived in Paris, and was also fond of finding new and exciting ways of getting to Euston House for Network Investment Panel at 1000 Monday!

Maybe I should have worded it more carefully, Don - I don't want to get a clout from all 5' 14'' of RMWeb Debs, plus I have my own NHN Debs, slightly but not much less tall, who may take a dim view!  :butcher:

Morning all!  Sunny morning in Edinburgh and not too cold either.  Rather pleasant, all told.

I've decided I'm not going to Glasgow Show this year.  I'm interviewing on Friday morning, have to go down to Durham Friday afternoon, and then I'm not due to be back in Glasgow on the Sunday as I normally would be.  So instead I'm going to stay down in Durham to watch the 6 Nations games instead.  One of the traders I wanted to get something from isn't going to Glasgow, and I'm sure I can wait another year for another impulse purchase of a renamed A1 (like I bought last year)...

I've been on board both Illustrious and Invincible, and saw Hermes and Ark Royal in Portsmouth when I was down there as a kid on holiday.  Accidentally came across HMS Illustrious last year while on a Magical Mystery tour from Glasgow.  SWMBO had asked for a drive out to Helensburgh, and I took the wrong turning after Faslane (I'd intended to take the Haul Road back to Duck Bay on Loch Lomond, but instead carried on up the A814 to Arrochar and Tarbet).  Carried on up Loch Long, and turned a corner to see a rather large vessel moored ahead of me with a ski ramp at the end.  Actually, end on to the prow, it didn't look that big, but when I came alongside I realised it was Illustrious and she was pretty massive!
