I might have voted but they have closed our local polling station which was a short walk it is now about three miles away. Besides there wouldn't have been an option for 'none of them'

Glad to hear you got there in the end Phil - alas DB punctuality in more recent years seems to be in a rather different mode from the past.

Anyway if you're not too far from Hannover only 2 hours on from there is a place called Wernigerode which i reckon you might find of interest - might be worth looking up its local attractions to see if it might be worth a long day out?

And you must have missed the big vote - just said on the Beeb that the turnout was less than 10%. In the first 12 hours ay our polling station a total of 122 people had voted, that's around 5% of the number of voters they had made provision for - the whole thing is a very expensive farce which put even Clochmerle in the shade.

Yep the Hartz mountain system is going to be the late spring project, I've already scoped that - one of the hotels in Wernigerode does a 4 night ~220 euro package which includes a couple of days roaming the whole Hartz system.so it will be a couple of days with daughter , 4 days on the Hartz, back to Laura's for a couple of days, perfect!

Hello, hello, hello,

Clear blue sky although the forecast said partly cloudy. Coolish at 22C.

Initially I did not put on a jersey, but sitting at the computer I got chilly so added a light jersey to my apparel.

No pig stories. I can't recall ever being up close with one. My life has lacked adventure.

Have made acquaintance with many sheep, but no rams.

Have never seen either a shoat or geep

That's quite a train. Do you have a layout with enough length of track to accommodate the whole train. Where can I view it?

Good morning all,

Dry but overcast here today & 6oC (Which is what I would call coolish Don) and hopefully some sunshine to come which should raise temp to 11 or 12oC.

I think "domestic" chores are the order of the day (well maybe a couple of hours this morning).

Other than that nothing else to report.

Bob.

Good morning!

Not such a good one here as I think I've broken my trusty travel kettle by switching it on when empty! Gutted. It's been such a trusty item for many years, used daily and goes with us when we visit countries where hotels (and cruise ships) don't provide tea making facilities in rooms.

Until it's replaced, I'll have to go downstairs to make TIB. And before you ask, there's no chance of O/H providing it as he rarely wakes before 10am!

Other than that, I have a hospital appointment re my trigger thumb (a medical term!) then a two hour stint putting up posters for our production of "The Wind in the Willows"

Hope your day started well.

Curtains are closed, so no idear what glorious weather we're having at the moment.

Brain is full of ideas and counter-ideas for the BCB building ( now with associated ablution facilities ). Thanks to those who 'like' & add comments - 'tis much appreciated !

Last day of the week, 39 days till Boxing Day ( ignoring the Mayans), so much modelling to do.....

Enjoy what you do, wherever you are.

Morning All,

It is quite a pleasant morning here. A little on the chilly side, but nice and clear.

I am hoping for a quiet day in the office, but given the way that it has started off I don't think it is going to be. Oh well, TGIF!

Sorry to hear about your travel kettle Ash - It is always a shame when something that has been a trusty appliance for years gives up the ghost. Perhaps it is a time to treat yourself to a new travel kettle and a teasmade?!?

Have a good day everyone...

Morning all...

We, too, arrived safely after our road trip yesterday. It's been quite foggy on much of the route, which of course didn't bother too many speeding motorists. Amazing that nothing appears to have happened, though. Aside from an accident on the A38, which but appears to have been caused by flash ice.

Phil – glad to hear you're well, too. Deutsche Bahn did have serious problems in the cold months for the past several years , so they promised to step on the toes of the builders they had ordered rolling stock from and make their infrastructure winter-proof. I guess that's what you get when you expect railways to earn a profit for their shareholders and award regional franchises to the cheapest bidders...

Mornin' all,

Relaxing start to the day with 'the first picture of you' by The Lotus Eaters coming softly from the Bose...cool, lightly overcast but promisingly bright in the Peak District weatherwise....most pressing appointment today with the model railway.....'Harden my heart' by Quarterflash starting now, don't you just love the sax!

Have a great day all

Dave

Thanks for the advice but, after a suitable cooling off period (sulk!) the kettle is now working! :)

Morning all.

Nothing too exciting planned today. Aditi has a meeting to attend "somewhere in London" today'. So she will work from home (genuinely) and then I'll take her to the station later this morning. The meeting ends at 5pm so she won't be going back to work afterwards. I think Oxford St may be a possible destination.

It isn't foggy or misty but there is just enough haze to make Kent invisible.

No kettle disasters to report here.

Morning all.

Glorious weather yesterday - gone till further notice.

I'm the "Tea's made, dear" in this household with a few exceptions. Not called "Polly" for nothing...

The only pig story I have is that there was a pig farm at the end of our road when I was a kid. I don't recall seeing many pigs but they had quite a few Nissan type huts and lots of sticky muddy clay stuff to walk through in winter which, if its was anything like our garden, turned to rock in hot dry summers. It was in the days when we all had pig bins which were emptied into small refuse vehicles of the Bedford Refuse Lorry type.

There are a few horse, cat, dog, rabbit, mice, bird, newt and snail stories I can tell so I guess these may turn up in these pages at some point but for now I've to make some pig (er...I mean, ham) rolls for lunch.

Enjoy your day. I'll catch up again later....maybe after 9 hours.

Don,

I never realised you were a fellow Welshman!

Cewe(sic) loads of jokes about coming from Baaaaaarry Island, Baaaaangor, Baaaaaaala or Baaaaaaargoed.

Lovely day here, I'm off to do some target shooting this morning.

My trigger finger being in top form, unlike poor old Ashers' thumb.

Regards

Richard

Morning all, dull and grey here in Suffolk but mild so at least that's something.

I must apologise for bringing the wrath of the keyboard warrior to this thread, I didn't think even one so stupid as him would lower himself to try and cause an argument on here but apparently he is that sad, he then proclaims that he's been "censored" - since when did any forum allow banned members to post rubbish and promote their own egos?

Perhaps now people have seen this idiot and the sort of things he gets up to, they may understand why sometimes I can appear fraught, when you have to deal with this garbage (and he's not the only one by any means who have the ability to comment but not accept replies) it can be trying at times, so for that I apologise to.

I'm thinking of changing my name to Victor Meldrew

Is that the same as "Gamekeeper's Thumb"? The person I met with that was a former university lecturer then working in the Asian music "scene". She didn't elaborate on what caused the condition.

Morning all

Misty morning again. We are due for a nice day, so I hope it actually lifts/burns through, unlike more than one day recently, disappointingly.

Tony - not being able to see Kent must be a marginal disadvantage at worst, having lived there for nearly 30 years!

Beast - we know you to be a bright, strong-minded chap, with encyclopaedic knowledge on certain subjects - and no history of waffling on others. Of course you are upset by the chap's ramblings - they are personal and a complete puzzle to the rest of us, too. ERs specialises in being a place where we can parade our problems with an outsize chance of a sympathetic hearing & response. Writing down what ails us is a well-known therapy - and you should continue to feel comfy doing so right here, please.

I think you've missed them.

Top Tip Ashers: Keep your thumb away from the kettle.

Ian. I lived in Kent for three years when I was at university in Canterbury. I was offered my first job in Tunbridge Wells but turned it down to take a job in Corringham, Essex. It seemed like a good idea at the time.
