Got rid of Waze, found a different one called Magic Earth., it claims to be recognised by Android Auto, but so far it hasn't. However the maps look good, the GPS speed is on the right, and it has an option saying communicate by Bluetooth.. so that might get the voice to work if A Auto doesn't.

Delivery from the house of strong ladies, SWMBO will be happy, a big set of artists pens, and also beech balls to make drop spindle weights.

Solder paste and flux were also delivered, along with support wheels for the gate that's under construction.

The welkin of course opened while the parcels were being passed to me..

Thundering tractors.. they are sugar beet harvesting now.

Mixed grill this evening, including black pudding, liver and kidney..

@Debs.  Your Aldi has even more chrimbo fodder out than ours does!  I don't need any chrimbo pud this year, I've several puds in the cupboard that will be at least 18 months matured* by time I get around to eating them.

I'm waiting for the mince pies to achieve a best before date sometime in the new year before I buy some, they're currently at 13th November.

* They were "6 months matured" when I bought them last year...

I couldn't believe how much Christmas bloat and how early the festive aisle had appeared.....I took the picture as I doubted my friends would believe it either! ☺️

.....What's next, hot cross buns? 🙄

Good news: I no longer have to isolate.

Bad news: Mrs Shed tested positive today so we can share our misery.

Tomorrow will be Day 5 since I tested positive, so if I test negative* I can venture out for shopping. Worst case, in west London we have access to all of the online delivery services so an extra day or two of housebound confinement won't be much of an inconvenience, although I am looking forward to a bit of fresh air.

*According to government wisdom no test is necessary - I'll be a free man if I'm not running a temperature. But I'll err on the side of caution.

You're about a day plus ahead of me. We had the reverse, whereby the Mrs was first into the fray and is now past the 5-day, I therefore "got it" from her.

There is NO WAY IN HELL I'll suggest she's to blame though, I value my life and liberty too much to be that stupid!! 😲😲

Given we were both placed on Plaxovid, subsequent testing is, by professional opinion, a waste of time, as after the treatment you'll test positive for some time later!

BIN day <meh> and I did manage to get the BINs out there, but disinterested either way.

I'll miss choir rehearsal again today, but since I still feel fairly carp and very congested it's no big loss.

Another day inside for us b, but we'll be watching the WNBA Lynx or home team (womens basketball) tonight in the first game of the championship finals.

Weather is staying late August-like around here at 16c and sunny BIN time and 28c the expected high. Fear not @southern42 we will see an overnight of 0c Monday 😀

Onward...

Bear has a new acquisition:

- a purchase from the Warehouse; I often look at the piccies and this one just grabbed me.  It's a big piccy (34" x 24" framed) - the frame does it no favours though, so if I decide I like it enough (likely) I'll re-frame it; it's unusual in that it has the appearance of an oil painting (it's unglazed accordingly) but I'm sure it isn't - different sized versions are available on the 'bay & net.

32ft Bombarde?

Evening orl, from what was a sunny rock, but I was less than sunny, just couldn't get going this morning.  I took myself off the the Point of Ayre (John O'Groats Fraggle stylee) for a walk, then around the Bright Lights of Royal Ramsey for another mile.  That helped a bit, spent a couple of hours in the garage tending to live steam locos after their trundle out at the weekend, the naughty one has a slot on the bench booked.

Looking back towards the hilly bit (2,036 feet).

Good evening everyone

After I’d been to Sainsbury’s this morning, I went to the big orange DIY shed to see if I could get any 4mm dowel rods, disappointingly, there were none available, so I left there, empty handed. Once back home, I started making the corned beef hash, i almost filled the large pressure cooker, I ended up with a total of 14 portions, 12 have been frozen in 2 portion containers, the last 2 are in the fridge and will be eaten tomorrow evening, with some crusty bread!

Whilst the corned beef hash was cooking I looked on Ebay, for 3mm wooden dowels (thanks for the tip @polybear) and purchased a bundle of 20 3mm x 30cm dowel rods for the princely sum of £5.72 with free delivery. These are slight seconds, so may have a slight warp or bend, but as I’m going to be cutting them into 50mm lengths anyway, that doesn’t matter. They have allegedly been dispatched, so hopefully they should be here by the weekend.

After dinner, as Charlie wasn’t calling round, he was at the dentist this afternoon, WE decided that a trip to Waitrose was in order, so the few items we can’t get locally were purchased, plus a few items that Vickie had asked us to pick up for her.

My maternal grandfather was Chief Honorary Steward at Arsenal's Highbury Stadium.  Every year he would receive a turkey, courtesy of the club.  Even though he requested one of the smaller ones, it was always huge.  Some years it had to be dismembered to get it in the oven. It would be served at a family lunch on Boxing Day, or the day after if there was a home match on the 26th.  It served 10 at lunch and there was loads left.

Years ago two ex-student friends who had a small transport business subcontracting to a local poultry farmer were given a large goose and invited people round for Sunday lunch.  The goose was lovely but after lunch and a few beers we turned to the washing up.  This was interesting as when they cooked the goose they had poured all the fat down the kitchen sink.

Never made that mistake with a goose because once somehow achieved this with something else!  Answer - Fill sink with hot water, pour neat bleach into water directly above plughole and then go for a smoke.  Repeat.  Repeat.  Repeat.  Pour neat washing-up liquid into plughole.  Hot water.  Repeat.  Repeat.  Repeat.  Hot water.  Bleach.  Repeat...

Chrimbo din dins?  A super-special Beary made Pizza then, with CF’s or Auntie Bessie’s; I may get serious and have a side-order of stuffing (bog standard cheapo Paxo - now’t poncy).  Chrimbo Pud n’ custard, mince pies etc.

And maybe a full english for main course….😄

That's really sad, Bear and on far too many levels (and NO, I'm not being facetious).

You should do what the late, great, ChrisF and JohnDMJ always did at Christmas - take a railway tour of Switzerland (they did so every year with the same travel company). It allowed them, also unattached bachelors with no close relatives, to avoid the whole Dickensian "Christmas Carol on Steroids" commercial sell-fest that the Yuletide season has become in the UK (Christmas is much, much less commercial and more low key in Switzerland).

It was also good for their sanity: both ChrisF and JohnDMJ said that  NOT being in the UK over Christmas was infinitely preferable than staying at home and feeling glum, bereft or worse.

Yes, it costs a few Deltics, but a small price to pay to be able to get through the UK Christmas season and come out the other side with sanity and dignity intact.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. A good evening was spent at the SEERS meeting, my item ran perfectly on the two parallel strips of nickel silver so I am satisfied. Also the member who volunteers to make the tea who is also a trainee chef bought in some home made shortbread, I was able to snaffle a couple of pieces before it all went.

It's your wall and it's your choice, but I would leave that as it is.  Big, maybe, but perhaps just right?  I've got a nocturne by Grimshaw which is just slightly smaller than that.  So unless you really hate that frame, keep it as it because the dark frame draws the eye inwards.  The moon, clouds and sky part is excellent, the shadowing on the buildings less so, but that is a lovely piece!  See also various Grimshaws of Glasgow, Newcastle and Sunderland quaysides.
