Known a few   Eoin as well..

Mapfactor Navigator has an up date rate so slow I've gone half a mile before it moves... Another failure.

Tried hooking up the phone to the in car tablet, but Waze doesn't see it.

Still thinking of a way round...

Soggyness has temporarily moved north of us, I believe it's about to do a I turn and come back.

The best way to think about Satnavs is to think of imps (ask Commander Vimes).

I've heard of them but never met one.

Gaelic I think?

Many variations, including the previously mentioned Niall (according to wikipedia, Niall of the nine hostages was the precursor to the Uí Néill (O' Neill, etc) dynasties. Written English has had enough problems with its own spellings and vowel changes over the centuries, then add in slightly different sounds, and a language where vowels can change in different cases. and you end up with a wide variety of spellings.

I honestly don’t know.

We learned quite early on never to trust surname spellings.

One branch of the family variously uses Viall, Vial, Vail, Vaile, Vile, Veal, Veale or Viale. All the same name.

I have a similar problem with a branch of my family, it could be Jiggins, Jiggens, Giggens, Jaggens plus a few other variations. On one Victorian census return two brothers were living in the same street one was recorded as Jiggins and one as Jiggens. Not surprising considering the thick Essex dialect they undoubtedly spoke with.

Bear here....

G & L sorted - the existing supplier has a one year fix at the same price I'm paying now - meaning no price increase tomorrow or in the new year.  Close enough.

I finally got around to doing a second sort of Momma Bear's Wardrobe Drawers....all I can say is "not fun".  Nottalott more will be parted with, though the sort-out have resulted in three drawers being condensed into two drawers, so that's a Tick.

The Big River delivered to Bear Towers earlier - a 5L container of Macerator Cleaner; they did their usual "dump it, ring & run" stunt......

I have another delivery scheduled this later week (a forty-odd quid steam iron) - I've decided to have that delivered to Bearsville Post Office rather than risk it be dumped in plain sight.  T0ssers.

Post-din dins meant a sort of some muddlin' stuff - which took longer than I'd imagined; 99.9% of it is done now, so I reckon a Tick can be awarded.

Currently watching the last episode of "Nightsleeper" - total cr@p but I'm intrigued how it'll pan out.

And Finally....

A guy arrived to collect a 4ft Bar/Frost Protection Heater that was in Bear's sh*d; the sh*d was too big & poorly insulated (i.e diddly squat) for the heater to have any effect, apart from burn money.  So I bunged it on Freegle and got a response accordingly.  Tick.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. Had my annual eye test today, my distant vision is OK but my my near vision has changed. I am finding it difficult to read small print. So two pairs of reading glasses are on order, £90 in all. My old reading glasses are still OK for using the laptop and watching TV. Afterwards I done some shopping in Tess Coes but the joints were protesting so I stretched out on the bed for a while.

Good evening everyone

The rain today has been relentless, it’s just never stopped. On my way to have my eyes tested, I noticed that a lot of the roads are part way to being flooded.  It full blown flood, but the puddles seem to be joining up and also trying to join up with the puddles on the opposite side of the road too! When I completed the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix this afternoon, I noticed that some of the puddles were getting closer to those on the opposite side of the road, if the rain carries like it is doing, they’ll probably meet up tomorrow.

My eyes have passed their MOT, all was good, with just a slight change in my right eye, but not enough of one to warrant new glasses!

สวัสดี from Bangkok  Airport where I am currently ensconced in the Royal Silk lounge having a Coke Zero my flight to Tokyo having been delayed a whole 15 minutes!

It's been a while since I've been to Bangkok airport and it's been extensively developed and the layout isn't the most logical layout. Apart from the nifty rubber tyred shuttle train it's been walk, walk, walk....

There's good news and bad news. The bad news is Thai Airways has not quite grasped how to serve a single malt whisky; the good news is that Thai Airways has not quite grasped how to serve a single malt whisky. The first time (The 12 year old Glenfiddich please with a little water) brought me a whisky flavoured water, the second attempt  (a Glennfiddich please and I'll add the water) brought me a double - treble. Swings and Roundabouts, Swings and Roundabouts!

That's quite true here in the US where spellings were semi-arbitrarily Anglicized into US English for 19th century immigrants,

Relative to the "Neil" / Scottish | "Niel" / English observation I know someone whose family name is McNiel.

My name is Michael. People frequently misspell it as Micheal - which it isn't. (At least not for me.) Of course there are various spellings in different European languages - Michel / Miguel / Mikhail  / Mikael etc etc.

In Irish Gaelic it can be any of: Micheál, Mícheál or Michéal; or the Scottish Gaelic name Mìcheal.

A hostess at a restaurant once announced my table as "party for Michelle".

Eventually it becomes "just don't call me late for dinner".

I have been finding that when I ask for "new since last login" it often stops at 7 hours ago and then list a show from ages back. My last login was usually about 23 hours ago.

😲

iD?  Coke Zero??

Ingredients. Carbonated Water, Colour (E150d), Acid (Phosphoric Acid), Sweeteners (Aspartame, Acesulfame-K, Enzymatically Produced Steviol Glycosides), Natural Flavourings, Caffeine Flavouring, Acidity Regulator (Sodium Citrates). Contains a Source of Phenylalanine.

So what happened to the "All UPF's are Evil" Mk.1 version of iD I wonder?  Did he finally realise the Mk. 1 was out-dated/flawed I wonder??

Just askin' for a friend......

😁

edit:  Bear was once sitting in a Hotel Bar in Changwon, RoK (2001 I think) one evening whilst reading the ingredients in a can of (probably full-fat) Coke; I noticed the following warning on the can:

"This product has been linked to a higher incidence of Liver Cancer in Lab Rats....."

Ey up!

Met up with some friends from Grammar School last night who m9ved back home from Coventry 2 years ago. Quality of life has vastly improved for them. Great to talk with them!

As it happens I now need to go to the Riverside in Chester le Street today to arrend a "consultation" between the ECB and the umpires and scorers in Recreational Cricket. I just need to listen and take notes....really?? Me???

Have a great day!

Mooring Awl,

3 hours sleep, short awake , 4 hours sleep.

Was roaring with wind during the awake, now it's quiet, everything is dripping outside, but not raining as we are in the hole in the middle. Heavy dark clouds to the north which are heading our way .

Of holes in the middle, when you reach 65 you can have the shingles vaccine, if you are over 70 you can have the shingles vaccine... But us in the middle no!! Just what is the reason for that?

The O'Neil's of Barra are interesting in that they've always claimed an Irish ancestry, but when DNA tested they were proved to be of almost 100% Norse descent.

Within my ancestry there is a Rawlins branch, or is that, Rawlings, Rawlans, Rawlens, Rawling, Rauling, Raulings, Raulin, etc.. Partly of course this is because W is comparatively modern invention , it was originally expressed as V / V V then as UU.

I've done some research on the car radio/ GPS/ camera.. seemingly some produced by the same manufacturer were supplied with the mapping system "HERE wego",  so that will be the next one to try..

Plans for today..

Not GPS as swmbo needs the car later and on Wednesday, so the next attempt will be Thursday.

I may proceed to the mobile home for some muddling.

Time to wake up the fire and get the ash out before it rains again.

Mornin' all.

Currently a damp continuation from yesterdays downpour, though the prognosticators say its going to dry up later and that the rest of the week will be more pleasant.

We'll see...

Once its dry enough, I'll do some more Garage-sorting, with a view to transferring some stuff from the Shed. 😁

Good moaning from a very damp and getting damper Charente.  The joys of shopping today.  Apart from that not a lot is on the agenda, but that status may be subject to change.

Morning All

Day off shift today…hurrah!

Not sure who exactly is going to be overseeing the non railway contractors on railway property today, to be fair their fenced compound is over 5m away from the track but they are using an excavator.
I raised my concerns that they must be overseen by suitable Railway bods and must comply with CDM to be insured, but no one replied to my concerns. If all goes to plan someone suitably competent will turn up from Railway and over see them. If not the contractors should be stood down for the day.

Bet they don’t. And bet they aren’t.

Still with this current level of high ups not listening to, or even acknowledging my concerns regarding various issues, I have now reached a point where a unit of measurement has yet to be invented, that is capable of measuring how much of a fudge I don’t give!

ION

Mrs Grizz took one of her beloved field ornaments for a ride and had a splendid time. Right up to the point that, only 10m from the stable, it decided to jump sideways and slide her off. Setting off her air vest ejector seat thingy that I have insisted that she wears.

Unfortunately it just happened to be in front of a contingent of Gurkha soldiers, their families, friends and supporters who were in an adjacent field, hosting the run across the Southdowns Way. Result, Mrs Grizz is a tad bruised in some unmentionable places and I have restocked her air vest ejector seat thing with some more gas canisters.

Heyho.

Off to do some muddling if time allows.

Have a great day all.

ATB Grizz

PS….  Erm @iL Dottore….I have never heard of Whisky flavoured water….not in this Castle anyway. I take it that you didn’t drink it?
Pleased to hear that they resolved the whisky / serving operation interface issue, before it caused a major incident.

Sorry to hear that the Boss had a uncontrolled interface with her biological system. Hope she recovers her dignity. Did the Gurkhas rush to her aid or was it recorded on film to be broadcast to the world at some point?

Two points of order there. Firstly you mentioned your shed so points deducted there and secondly you should be ashamed for not accepting your quota of the wet stuff. It's people like you not agreeing to stand together with the rest of us and get soaked that has led to this country's downfall.

Thanks for the support WB. As much as the bruising in unmentionable areas, it was the embarrassment and the field ornament’s response. She trotted back over to her and sniffed her….as if enquiring “Well what are you doing down there?”.

The Gurkhas and all others were very supportive. In fact the Southdowns Way run is held over the same weekend every year and for years my FiL has supplied water for the event. This year we were very kindly invited to eat with the troops and their families and we was treated to a Gurkha meal cooked by their chef. We had the most delicious curried pork dish, with rice and accruements, including, served separately, a total nutter barsteward garlic, chile sauce. I just might have underestimated exactly how hot that was.
Suspect that it was weapons grade. Might be useful in combat.
