Popular Post Erichill16
Morning All, Been meaning to drop in but been busy with retirement related issues etc. Weather not unpleasant but definitely autumnal. I think the trees have given up summer and have decided to start dropping their leaves. I had a mental list of jobs that I wanted to get done this summer but it’s unlikely any will get done unless we get a dry mild autumn. Dont know if it’s just me but site seems to be running very slow. 16
RMweb Gold DaveF Posted August 24 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 24 It's dry but the forcast says showers and 13°C so I may go for a short walk. It is cloudy but there is blue sky to the north so perhaps it will get better. Nothing special to do today, I want to look at more old photos and there are some e mails to write. One may prove to be difficult . The antibiotics seem to be working, I feel more myself and things seem to be working better. David
Winslow Boy
Church barbeque for me. But before that the Boss has got to be walked. Sky is overcast with possibility of rain. Luckily the church has a canopy we can all shelter under if it decides to wee. 14
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted August 24 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 24 Yup - windy. But not AS windy! Mad overnight again, rain and wind, trees not really dropping leaves but being stripped of them. Pah.
The Lurker
Raining steadily here on the Fold in the Hill. And cooler than it has been. First real rain we’ve had for ages. It’s forecast to last most of the day.

I also spotted this in the news: "Sinclair, a regular competitor at the Manx Grand Prix since 2012, returned a non-negative test result for a recreational drug in a random drugs test" Er, just what's wrong with using the word "positive"?? RMweb Gold PupCam Posted August 24 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 24 Morning! Haven't had a chance to catch up with all of the latest posts but a topic that stands out is NHS waste/bureaucracy. My recent experience (over the last 4 years) has confirmed that the NHS is indeed the largest Curate's Egg there has ever been and that there is plenty of scope for cutting duplication, miss-communication, waste and bureaucracy. Don't get me wrong, I've had some wonderful help, treatment and care from very many dedicated individuals who do an amazing job and in many cases despite rather than because of the NHS's systems. It's persisting down. One of the Junior Puppers is traveling up from almost* Distant Signal (West) today. Hmm, not a good M5/M4/M25/M1 driving day. I hope their journey is not too arduous. * If not "almost" it's "well-on-the-way". Just had a phone call from the other JP. They are going to Milton Keynes shopping this morning. Eldest JJP has requested that he be dropped off at Nan & Grandad's so he can play trains with Grandad. Sensible fellow! That's me sorted for the morning then 😀 TTFN
RMweb Premium polybear Posted August 24 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 24 Bear here, A large quantity of Dublo bits n' pieces packed (a suitable box & bubble wrap was easily obtained from Bear's stash in Beamland) and delivered thru' howling wind n' rain ( ok, so actually just a bit damp) to Postie Pat Towers. That's a Tick. A new comic has just been delivered as well - some sort of unspeakable "Journal" apparently 😉 I should be doin' stuff - but a B&W film called "Odette" is on the moving picture box and Bear has been side-tracked. Oops. BG

Being winter never stopped us going to the beach and swimming. The temperature there today is 23°C. A couple of trips 'home' I've scheduled for August. I still go swimming at this time of year. Locally, on the Oregon Coast (where it is 'summer') it is 17°C. The water temperature there is 15°C. It is cold. (This is close to the warmest that it gets.) 15 degrees..................COLD...................................try the North Sea here around Montrose/Arbroath. doesn't get into double figures for most of the summer, it's 14.7 at the moment which is as warm as it will ever get.................................. 1 4 1

Bear's recent event at Chateau Checkpoint Charlene took three "appointments" where one would have been fine if they'd had the common sense to listen to Bear; it also delayed proceedings by a week.
RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted August 24 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 24 (edited) ' morning all from red dragon land. Sun in and out, rain gone, and strong winds have subsided. Only 13C out so still not what I call summer. Only checked in on here a few times in the last few days - I am all in a tizwoz! When I subscribed to the online flute course last year, the payment card locked up, would not pay up, or allow any further payments to anyone else. I just carried on as a "free" subscriber with limited access to learning material. So this year, I was quite wary but it went through ok, leaving me in a state of huge relief but on a high I have not known for some while! So, nearly two weeks later, I am still abuzz and restless and can't settle to much at all, not even to the music. Hopefully, I will be able to calm down over the weekend. Weather has not been up to much either, so I shall try and make the most of today's sunshine, wearing my Reykjavik Grapevine sweatshirt to keep me warm! As was my luck, after getting a quick update on the Iceland Eruption Live website, everything being all quiet, I closed down my MacBook for the night, only to find on my 'phone, later, I had missed the beginning of the eruption by just a few minutes! As I was awake at 0330ish, I spent half an hour or so watching it live before dropping off to sleep again. Time to get on before the day is done. Take care. Be good. Be lucky. I use Tesco's because it is the most convenient. Asda's is nearer but the (underground) car park is small and cramped and usually full at all times of the day. 11
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted August 24 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 24 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Strange things are going on herein Estuary-Land. I store a lot of my model railway stuff in Really Useful boxes stacked up in the utility room. Lately I've noticed that I have to squeeze past some of them. I haven't put on any weight recently so I went to have a look and I found a gap of about four inches behind one of the stacks, they had apparently 'walked' those four inches, very strange. 4 8

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted August 24 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 24 I note the latest rebuild of Tess and Coes here of the till area ( less staff more self operation), every till has displays showing who's using it.. We have constant light soggyness falling from the welkin. But the radar indicates the main wet has yet to arrive. Mooring Awl, 9.5 hours sleep with a half hour break in the middle ish. I really needed that. The electric motor arrived for the drill , only it didn't, I ordered a long shaft 8800rpm motor, what arrived was a geared 5 rpm motor, as it only cost £4 it's not a disaster if I don't get a satisfactory response from the Bay of Es. Muddling has occurred, run out / running out of several items of parallel bits of metal. Still raining.. Early tea then off to the MRC to get things ready for the show tomorrow. 1

If you don't give them the fancy food they've seen on the telly, enough cardboard boxes to sleep in, a dog-free environment then WHOOSH! RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted August 24 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 24 (edited) Today has been an "interesting" or perhaps thought provoking day. It stayed dry after breakfast so I went for a walk at Seaton Sluice. While doing that I realised that I have developed a habit of doing the same walk along the road, cliff and Rocky Island each time I go. But why? There are other enjoyable short walks/strolls I used to do there a lot but not recently. I came home, had coffee and watched some photos from 2012. Again I noticed places and viewpoints I haven't visited for ages. Again Why? I also realised that an area by a railway which last time I visited I thought had become overgrown is actually almost exactly as it was 12 years ago, with the same bits of the field I stand in unmown. I saw a lot of photos of Seaton Sluice from the walks mentioned above which I no longer do. So looking at the photos is useful, memory is fallible. I grilled a piece of smoked gammon for lunch, it was somewhar larger than I thought but I managed almost all of it. Next time when I buy a piece that size I could cut it in two. I tackled the hard e mail I had to write about my photos and their possible use and feel it is a load off my mind. I didn't say "no" but a qualified "yes". I had a slow potter around the garden and started to work out what I need to do between now and winter. To my delight it is a lot less than I had feared. The regular hoeing up of weeds seems to be having an effect and a few plants have survived which I was worried about. Obviously there are things to cut back, move around or remove and so on but not too much. All in all a very useful day, I find around this time each year I tend to take stock of what I have done/am doing and quite often set up new priorities. It is a time as well when I start to think of all the things I enjoy doing from the end of this month up to (and sometimes including) the winter and plan for them. Simple things like tidying the garden, places to visit which do need summer weather to enjoy, models to make on "indoor" days, jigsaws to do as well as the never ending photos to do things with. Sometimes I just realise just how good life is, even when there are health niggles.
