I'd prefer it if the phone didn't ring at all so I don't come running.

This is the problem. Even if I assume that it is a robocall (99% probability) the telephone rings and doesn't stop ringing. (I don't have voicemail at home.)

Blocking numbers doesn't help. (Block all, with an exception list, almost defeats the purpose of a telephone.) Almost all calls are spoofed numbers - originating as VOIP with random numbers from the 'phone book'. The numbers are real, often with proper names on Caller-ID, (though sometimes they just show a town instead) being spoofed by the robo-dialer.

Evening Awl,

Portreath? There's  radar there.. a Type 102 hidden in a dome, here's a naked one.

image.png.c834b0489f8976cbb1390d59daaa6149.png

On the way, to near a TPS 77 radar,

heavy rain for a very short time.

Radar museum went well, many track pins dressmakers pins were inserted as fence posts. Still well over 1000 to do though.

Slight additions to the bridge before painting grey,

More pins inserted,

1345AD Heigham bridge sides cut out

More pins inserted.. still over a 1000 to do.

In between the above i did about 4 guided tours of the room and chatted to other visitors.

Last visitor was around 16:00 so we had an early knock off i got my evening chips and was in the MRC by 17:00.

Various bits of work done to the unmentionable, won't know if it's done the job till the glue dries.

Did more painting the bridge, smokey effects.. seemingly when originally built it was painted white. Next time some green wash neglected look.

A box of rotating servos has arrived, look forward to making them turn radars. 3.5mm to the foot scale.

Muggachoccy gone goodnight Awl.

It is strange. I grew three in pots. All got attacked but eventually re-shooted. Two though did a lot better. Grapefruit upturned work, but you need to check them otherwise the little blighters eat there way out.

Good evening everyone

Apart from the shopping trips, all 3 of them, I’ve not done much else.

This afternoon I made a chocolate orange cheesecake, tomorrow morning, Ava will help me by adding the orange curd and grated chocolate topping. On the subject of food, I’ll quite happily eat pickled onions, beetroot, cabbage, cauliflower, but I’ll pass on herring, gherkins and eggs, thank you very much!

Bear has a phone that enables me to block numbers; unfortunately the phone will still ring as normal when they call - but the display shows "Blocked" so I don't bother answering it.  I'd prefer it if the phone didn't ring at all so I don't come running.

My phone service reads  THEM a message telling them to state their name before it rings me and tells me who it is. Telemarketers and robocalls don't respond so the phone doesnt ring at my end if that occurs.

There is a whitelist to add legit callers to after they've gone through the process the first time so they subsequently  get through as normal.

The lack of telemarketers since I installed it is bliss!

An old, blind Marine wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake.

He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels.

After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?'

The bar immediately falls absolutely silent.

In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says,

'Before you tell that joke I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things:

1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.

2. The bouncer is a blonde girl.

3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate.

4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight lifter.

5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.

Now, think about it seriously, do you still wanna tell that blonde joke?'

The blind Marine thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters,

'No...not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times.'

What niche - i.e. totally crackers - sport would you like to see added to the Olympics?

Having now taken the trouble to look it up, (Google is our friend) sports being introduced or reintroduced for the LA games in 2028 are:

New:

Squash, Flag football (American football minus tackling)

Old:

Cricket (first and last appearance in 1900), Lacrosse (last 1908), and baseball and softball (last 2020 in Tokyo).

The "modern" pentathlon will lose the horsies ( @monkeysarefun will be pleased)  The jumping horsie bit will be replaced with an "American Ninja Warrior"-style obstacle course.

Breaking will not return to LA.

No pickleball though. Or cheese rolling. 🙁

Sports for the Brisbane games in 2032 have not been decided, though I'd say baseball*, softball and cricket are a shoe-in.

* An MLB first round draft pick for Cleveland this year was Aussie, Oregon State University baseball player, Travis Bazzana - the first ever Aussie top pick for MLB.

There's a push for netball, but without any men's game it might not happen.

There are others being mooted - trail running, frisbees, and rugby league.

Most intriguing is surf lifesaving. That would be great.

Why frisbees and not boomerangs?

I second   the idea of including surf lifesaving. Inter-club Carnivals have been held since 1915 so it has pedigree   and with a dozen or so events that feature running, swimming, rowing and more they  are pretty much a pentathlon in themselves.

I'd also obviously  include AFL but make it compulsory that teams must be made up of each countries  international soccer squads, might toughen them up a bit and put paid to the practice of rolling  around screaming  when their hair gets messed up. (warning, a little painful looking!)

Yesterday  I did something somewhat expensive: I bought a “new” house.

I say “new”, but the house was built in 1961 and the kitchen and bathrooms have (mostly) all original fittings, which function well enough but which are life expired meaning that I will have the joy of completely rebuilding the kitchen and the bathrooms.

This could be problematic, inasmuch as Mrs ID and I are likely to differ considerably on the matter of decor. But this I hope to avoid by dividing responsibilities for the refit: Mrs ID gets to choose the decor and I get to choose the equipment, appliances and fittings.

Anyway, back to the house It’s what the Swiss call an Atriumhaus and has a nice enclosed walled garden that gets plenty of sunlight, so Lucy and Schotty will have a nice spot in which to enjoy their old age. It also has the advantage of having an underground workshop/cellar that matches the entire house’s foot print, so large enough to fit in my workshop, Mrs IDs workshop and the railway layout with plenty of space to spare.

I also have a garage.

Although the living space (and storage space) of the new place matches that of our current house, there will still be the need to downsize and “recycle“ a lot of things.  Much of my extensive accumulation of model railway items will need to be sold on; many old books will be either given away or recycled, and we have a hell of a lot of antique paperwork (like VISA bills from 25 years ago) that need to be shredded (there is a local company that specialises in the total destruction of all kinds of confidential documents).

Then we have to sell our house! Luckily, where we live is currently highly sought after (for a number of reasons, not least the good transport links and the presence of an international school), and new build – and tiny - apartments are going for silly money.

it’s going to be a hectic nine months (with all the necessary renovations, et cetera, we don’t expect to be in the new place until April of next year).

Good moaning g from a warming Charente.  34 forecast today and 39 tomorrow.  A very good evening with neighbours last night.  Phone call to the girls this morning then a tip run before it gets too warm.
