None of us had seen it, and it's the 40th anniversary of the film, shot/based in Minneapolis... Though none of us are true/huge Prince fans, the movie gives a greater appreciation of the title song. Prince caught a train from Los Angeles Union station to Minneapolis - its in the long intro to his song Cream🙂 9

Hes from Middlesborough and said the town hads gone downhill which is what we thought when we visted the place on Saturday with a lot of closed down shops. It has a big knife crime problem but then so does nearby (to us) Croydon. We also visited Saltburn and Redcar that are both very pleasant. Even ended buying a loco from the model shop in Redcar at a good price and very friendly people in there so much so that it delayed my first beer of the day! Hartlepool was Ok with camerons brewery and adjacent taproom the highlight. However we were impressed with Sunderland after staying there two nights as in the past we have only made brief visits. Two traditional breakfasts and two teas for just over £8 in the Spoons nearest the station was good value considering Premier Inn charge around £13 each these days. You should have said you were heading this way, I could have waved as you passed. 13 1

Peter Kazmierczak
"Good morning Tokyo, happy to be seeing you." Crumbs, I still remember the tune and b/w images from 60 years ago on the BBC. Too much chat, too little action, too many ads for BBC i-player. 14 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 29 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Had a phone call from the NHS this afternoon, I'm booked in to have my knee X-rayed on Thursday afternoon. It's only taken a month, hopefully it won't be as long before I see the osteopath. 2
RMweb Premium polybear Posted July 29 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29 Bear's Monday Funnies.... An old man gets on a bus. There are no seats so he stands and leans on his walking stick for support. The bus brakes suddenly at one stage and he slips. A young man sitting in a seat next to him says, "Hey mister, if you had a rubber on the end of your stick that would not have happened". The old man replies" If your father had taken the same advice I would have a f*****g seat. The Sergeant-Major growled at the young soldier: "I didn’t see you at camouflage training this morning." "Thank you very much, sir." Not many people know that Henry the Eighth and Rupert the Bear share the same middle name. And Finally..... One for @Dave Hunt...... 3

RMweb Gold Popular Post PupCam Posted July 29 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 29 Evening I thought I might do something radical today. I thought I might get the 1/4 scale Tiger Moth down out of the garage with a view to recommissioning it and then maybe even flying it again at some point. So I did. Easier said than done as various bits were interlocked with bits of other aeroplanes and things have to be removed in sequence but we got there in the end. It's been hanging up there for ~8 years due to my lack of model flying MoJo. It might be an understatement to say it was a bit grubby. Here are the port wings and the water after their first wipe down. I wonder if I should have been wearing a full NBC suit while cleaning it? After a few wash cycles and a bit of a struggle* to join all of the bits up it looked like this; * It should be easy; the wings are stored as and go on as a ready rigged block and are held in place by a couple of M6 cap head bolts, one for the top wing and one for the bottom. Looks like I need to buy a new airborne battery pack and a new transmitter battery pack. Fair enough, I wouldn't trust either as they've been in an indeterminate state of charge for 8 years! Cosmetically the instrument panels have suffered a bit and need replacing but they of course have no impact on its ability to fly. Also some of the rib tapes and colour scheme trim strips seem to be loosening up making it look a little scruffy. I have thought about re-finishing it in the past, either in RAF Camo or the classic red and silver of the de Havilland School of Flying (at Hatfield don't you know) as I love both schemes. But then I think to myself this scheme is the one chosen by John, my late mate, who made such a good job of this his first scale model so perhaps I should just leave well alone as a tribute to him. ION I see there's no improvement in sight for this flaming forum with yet more upload failures and of course the ongoing "The Community is Temporarily Unavailable". Still, it's good to know it's not a system problem 😉 that I'm paying nearly £60/year for the pleasure of using ..... 9

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 29 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Now that England have thrashed the West Indies there's no cricket on BBC4 so they dug out a couple of old documentaries. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted July 29 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29 Good evening everyone Discussions with the shop owner about the small washstand that was for sale were concluded about 11 o’clock this morning, so I set off for Longridge not after. It took a lot longer than expected due to heavy traffic at the junction between the M61 and M6, but I still managed to get to the shop just before 12:30. Cash was parted with and I then called on James and Sophie, for a comfort break, refreshments and a chat. I left theirs at 12:45 and was back home by 13:40, again, delayed at the junction of the M61 and M60 due to heavy traffic. After a late dinner, I gave the washstand a clean off and then took it upstairs to our bedroom, where it now resides. Once back downstairs, I got a few things from the workshop, so that I can DO some modelling in the cellar and still be able to answer the door, as Sheila will be at the hairdresser’s in the morning.

Now, we turn off the water pump when we go to bed, the loo water works on a different circuit in our camper! Well no. Because the only time we have used a camper was for a three-night trip between Alice Springs and Uluru by way of the MacDonnell Ranges. But I have been rudely woken whilst under "canvas" by a cow relieving itself of solid-ish waste all over the flysheet. That was a rather unpleasant wake-up call. As was the clean-up before the tent could be packed for onward trudging.
RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted July 30 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 30 (edited) I'm listening to the old Who album Quadrophenia. The original, not the film soundtrack, it's always been a favourite, when I was about 11 my brother bought me the LP, which was tremendous. Not only the music, but the double LP came with a photo album linked to the story told by the album. I wouldn't call myself a Who fan as such, and was never enthused by the Daltrey/Townshend come back but at their best they were great.
