Well, I wuz wrong, and we had summer today.  I presume that'll be it though. 22c briefly, but a nice afternoon, sneaked out on the bike for a coffee after doing the jobs on Pal Belgique's Guzzi, and met another of the Old Farts there by chance.  So chins were wagged.

Not sure about the warmest year, presumably Fraggle Rock has some sort of exemption, it has been the worst - meaning the coldest, wettest -  year in the 22 going on 23 years we have been here. Global warming must be selective.  No, I'm not a denier, just find it vaguely amusing our weather has been so poor in comparison.

If global warming turns off the gulf stream, there'll be ice floes in the Irish Sea in winter...

The ferries will have to be fitted with reinforced bows!

I suspect a certain cynical captain may have desires on it....not sure I'd want the job of keeping those wheels shiny, but I suspect CC has a Minion for that.

I was going to have rhubarb crumble tonight - until I discovered the crumble bit has 260 cals for a measly 1/4 of a packet (53g).  The packet stayed in the Co-op.....so it's just rhubarb n' custard now....☹️

Going by the stains on the bitumen its a regular customer.

( A couple of years ago a RAAFie flight lieutenant  owned an XJS V12. He had to park it in the public carpark across the street because it was banned from the base due to causing excess oil puddles.)

Notice the dip in the front bumper, thats to allow the insertion of the starting handle in case the battery goes pearshaped in the winter!  Not that I'd like to crank over the straight six if it didn't want to go....

Now that is pretty as a picture and it would be MUCH easier to deliver it to Puppershire than Swizwangleland.     I'll clear the drive (and then go and find suitable garage accommodation) for it.

It's a nice Jag, but I'd prefer to have the Mk VII or the Mk IX if I couldn't get a Bentley S1 or S2.

As for Rolls Royce, I think they kinda lost their way in the early 60s, after which their vehicles were luxurious but no longer elegant (I think Bentley's lost their elegance a lot later than Rolls Royce.

Evening all from Estuary-Land.  I quite enjoyed the cricket on TV this evening even though it was a bit one-sided.  What impressed me was the technology, not only cameras in the stumps but on the batsmens and wicket keepers helmets. Also the fielding captain was equipped with an earpiece and microphone and was talking to the commentators during play. That I didn't think much of as the mike picked up all sorts of noises and wouldn't it have distracted the players?

At one time Bentley's were just a badge engineered Rolls-Royce. If you want to see what Bentleys would/should have been like in the 1950's just look at Alvis. After Bentley cars went bust during the depression and was bought out by Rolls Royce the great W O went on to design cars for Alvis.

Were the Swiss family the Robinsons?

Thank you.  And no.  They spoke perfect if slightly Germanic-accented English, did not freely understand the information we have posted in German and French (acknowledging that Schweizerdeutsch can be slightly different) nor were they apparently Italian-speaking.   As they signed the visitor's book - with some very complimentary words - I did get their name which struck me as being of slightly farther eastern origin; perhaps from Austro-Hungarian background.

Apart from the Swiss family who called in and were given the guided tour. I asked but they didn’t seem to know anyone called @iL Dottore

We’re just about to start a scheduled power outage for a pole to be replaced. It is to last 7 hours. Freezer compartment in one fridge packed solid, coolers filled with stuff from the two fridges, chilled by frozen 4 litre jugs of water, portable power bank for phones fully charged etc.

Things should go OK - I have faith in our Hydro crews.

Good evening everyone

The weather has been very kind to me today and I was able to sand down and refinish the umbrella stand. Sheila is delighted with it, so a few brownie points earned there me thinks. If the weather is nice enough tomorrow, I’ll do the same with a cast plant stand that lives on the landing next to our bedroom door. I also managed to modify the feed feeder, but it didn’t stop the squirrels from knocking the fat balls, so a re-think is in order there I think.

Sheila had no worn done at the dentist today, she had scans done instead. However, the dentist thinks she’ll need to see a specialist, to discuss her options. Unfortunately, the next available appointment wasn’t until September!

After dinner, I spent an hour or so in the workshop and finally finished a catch point I started a few weeks ago from a small off cut of track. It’s non-operational, but I’m pleased with how it’s turned out (pun intended)!

I knocked off early to get the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix done before tea. We now have enough milk to make tonight’s bedtime cocoa. We’re talking proper, unsweetened cocoa here, not the sweetened drinking chocolate.

I'd experiment to see how quietly* you can instruct their Alexa then tell it to turn the lights off for at least an hour, then watch the fun as they try to find the fault with the lighting.  You could also leave an instruction to play 'Ride of the Valkyries' at full volume at three in the morning.😈

I vaguely recall a South Park episode a few years ago where Cartman kept telling Alexa to buy increasingly rude items, many viewers found them added to their Amazon shopping list.

There is an increasing issue with parrots repeating their owners Siri/Google/Alexa commands, causing lights to go on and off and so on - there's many a youtube clip of it.

I have a slightly different issue with Gary The Parrot. My standard greeting to him has always been "Hey Gary!" so now when I start to say "Hey Google.." he screeches  with excitement for several seconds and prevents google from understanding my command.

It'd be unfair for my neighbour to complain about my V8 ute - he has one too!

Actually, both pale into insignificance  noise wise compared to the bloke across the road who has this. The whole street shakes when it starts up. Currently up for sale for an extremely large amount of Deltics and Honda 750's.

Years ago a colleague was on a conference call on speakerphone with Alexa listening. I did say "Alexa play Stairway to Heaven" but she didn't oblige.

Gently baked by a round warm object in the sky over Normanby Park yesterday.

Nice game of cricket with one very bad loser..  he pulled a hamstring and it was everyone else's fault..really!

Today is shark wielding day to be followed by hard floor swabbing. Pah!

Time to.. drink my tea and get the shark out.

Have a good day!

Mooring Awl,

4.5 hours sleep, long awake 1.5 hours sleep, would have had more, but SWMBO got up early and was crashing around sorting her art kit.

The big mower is going round the field around us, with regular visits by tractor and trailer to take away the barley at least they started next to the garden on one side which will frighten away the rats from us.

Dropped off the prescription forms at the doctors on the way to the MRC, there was a new notice in the window.. "please give 7 Working days notice for prescriptions", it used to be 3 days . Similarly, they've stopped opening the doctors after 17:00 and not on Saturdays.

Borrowed a book from a member of the MRC, it's got drawings of non moving things unmentionable, for the current task, very detailed. It's very different from the photos I've seen, which admittedly are from a distance.

Pill time gone,

Time for breaky.

My surgery has now stated that if you want a repeat prescription then you are not to submit it until a week before it's required. Reasonable request you would surmise, however - you knew that was coming didn't you, as they allow themselves 72 hours to process it, it means you have only forty eight to submit it. Which when you factor in there online system, which they prefer you to use, restricts the number of requests..... you can see where I'm going with this can't you. Talk about making life stressful.

Duesenberg, the nearest 1930's American car to the contemporary Bentley. You will have to win the lottery first if you want to buy one.
