RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted July 11 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 11 Morning, from a dank, damp rock, a mere 14c as we bake...err.....slop in 'summer' weather. Never known a June/July so wet and crepe. Climate change yes, global warming, apparently not here. The moron that wants to build houses on our local beach by concreting it over is having another try, my mate Geoff ran the protest over it last time, looks like we need another batch of stickers and posters. Sheesh, it'll never get finished of he did get permission, they want to build a marina using the money from the houses to fund it, but we all know what will happen the houses will get built then he'll f off with the rest of the money from them. Pah indeed. Not that he's got any funding in the first place.....humph. ION Not sure there is any, a day of pottering in the garage is predicted. 3

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted July 11 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 11 Good morning everyone Guess what, it’s raining again, although it does seem to be stopping. As it’s Thursday and Sheila’s Zumba teacher is back from her holiday, Sheila is off to her class this morning, chauffeuring services will be required. After I’ve dropped her off at the church hall, I’ll call and pick up a RM before heading back home to fit the roof rack. Once that’s done, I’ll head off to the local DIY shop and get some more plywood cut. More wood for the layout baseboards, this will be for the storage area. After dinner Charlie is due to call round, I’m hoping he’ll be wanting to go to the workshop today, as it’s been over 4 weeks since he last did any model making. Back later. That's what there doing over here. I'm not quite certain what a 'grey field' site is to be honest- somewhere between a 'green field and a brown field' one I suppose i.e only had one house built on it rather than a satanic mill. 10 1
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted July 11 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 11 (edited) I attended a swearing in ceremony for British citizenship for those that had qualified.. (it was swmbo's, brothers wife who was qualified) One of those attended had no clue what was going on, didn't speak English at all, and he had a friend who was prompting him. Mooring Awl, 5 hours sleep 1.5 hours sleep. I have a suitcase full of os maps, sadly not used these days, the oldest ( between the wars) is one of my grandfathers printed on linen of eastern Wiltshire and western Hampshire. The youngest is the Norfolk Broads map, which is it's self is over 20 years old. Oh and some reprints of local 1st edition maps. Plans for today, Go to the and paint skirting boards, 304mm to the foot scale. Go to a big shed for a sheet of ply, for purposes unmentionable. Time to finish this muggacoffee. RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted July 11 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 11 Another dull cool morning, 12°C today. the heating came on for a short while and I need a thin sweater on. I use OS maps a lot, partly for sorting out locations of older photos but also to work out new vantage points. Most are kept in a drawer but the local ones are on a shelf as I use them a lot. Every few years I buy new local ones. I also have a road atlas and smaller scale OS maps in the car. I don't use a satnav though I do have road maps on my phone if all else fails. In the drawer there are also some Railway Clearing House maps and some Airey's maps of railways. Of course there are also a lot of railway atlases including Colonel Cobb's. I woke with a stiff neck this morning, as yet I am not sure whether it is arthritis which sometimes causes it or a muscle. It usually improves with time - I've realised I'd turned over during the night onto the "wrong" side which can cause it. Not much is planned, a trip to church, a visit to the 100 year old neighbour of Mum's, perhaps some model things if the ballast has dried out. Then there is the Tour de France and Test Match so I will be occupied whatever happens. David 14

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 11 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 11 Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit late this morning as a neighbour came round to sort out my front garden (the weeds were almost as high as the fence). The brambles got another dose of weedkiller which should work as long as the rain holds off, keeping an eye on it. Popular Post Coombe Barton
Maps: list includes: Current OS 1:50,000 - lots Current OS 1:25,000 - lots - all the latest ones are tuff maps - more weatherproof Current OS 1:250,000 Great Britain - complete set Geological maps - mainly 1:50,000 but some 1:25,000 Inshore waters bathymetric maps - around Cornwall - used for plotting historic sea level rise OS specialist maps such as prehistoric and Roman (OS weren't around then, but you know what I mean) OS Monastic maps - lucky to find these in second hand book shops. Town plans - many are now historical documents Many one inch and others published at different times which together document changes to townscapes. For instance I have a whole series of maps from around the University which document the coming and going of the London to Birmingham Railway, the changes to industry and lastly the taking over of the space by the university. I can take people round and say things like "you are now standing on the main goods yard for Birmingham in 1860". Altases, national, world and historical. You can plot changes You may say it's an interest 17 1 2
