Ozexpatriate
Today is Juneteenth - a Federal holiday, so the Post Office and banks are closed but little else - though I did hear of one very large tech company having the day off. Many companies will shift the day off to July 5, a Friday, to create a long summer weekend. Most people are still getting used to the idea of the Juneteenth holiday, being long accustomed to not having any holidays in the relatively short span between Memorial Day (end of May) to the 4th of July. The next holiday is Labor Day - at the beginning of September and the unofficial last gasp of summer. 13

A colleague became unwell late yesterday and I have been (self-)appointed as his replacement. Which means the cottage might not be fully cleaned when Dr SWMBO returns tonight but she is aware of that. We plan to divert via the midsummer beacon lighting if her train is on time. We were there last year and enjoyed it. It seems a shame to skip it tonight so if GWR would kindly oblige and get her in punctually ….. Now - where’s my duster? RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted June 20 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 20 Good morning everyone We got up a bit late this morning, so much rushing round has been done, but we now seem to be back on track. There has been a change of plan for today, instead of my usual working in the garden or workshop that I’d planned, I’m going to do my shopping trip to the Trafford Centre instead, as tomorrow the plan is to go for a walk at RHS Bridgewater. Also, Charlie isn’t coming round today, he’s not fully recovered from last week’s festival, we are off to Waitrose this afternoon instead. But my first task of the day is to drop Sheila off t the church hall for her Zumba class. Back later. Brian

I've got a great idea for a massive party in a brewery. Anyone fancy organising it? Night owl! May I offer my patented method of getting seen promptly by the NHS? You’ll need: 1 bottle of vodka 1 bottle of strong ale Sterilium Betadine solution Sterile swabs Local anaesthetic (a sterile lidocaine gel would work) Disposable sterile scalpel Disposable, sterile, latex gloves (optional) METHOD Open vodka bottle, rinse mouth out with vodka, taking care not swallow any. Pour the vodka over your clothes. Repeat with the strong ale, but this time keeping the liquid in your mouth for a good 5 minutes before spitting out. Wash hands well, after drying wash hands with sterilium (a hand sterilizer) After gloving up (if used), prep forehead with betadine - as per standard surgical practice Numb forehead with local anaesthetic. Using the provided scalpel, cut a shallow 2 - 4 inch incision into your forehead. NOTE cutting down below the subcutaneous fat level should be avoided. The resulting bleeding will be spectacular, but not serious. Allow bleeding until both clothes and face are well covered with blood. Then apply compression with a clean hanky CAREFULLY DISPOSE OF SCALPEL and tidy up Present yourself at A&E covered in blood and reeking of alcohol Depending upon the time of day and the accident and casualty unit selected, you should be seen within an hour or two, tops. When being sewn up, ask the doctor about your real medical problem. Simples! Edited June 20 by iL Dottore Forgot the sterilium! 1

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted June 20 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 20 It's fine and sunny with a wind from the west so it feels warmer. I shall be off to church in a few minutes, the churchwarden will be late as he has an appointment with the GP so I need to get things organised and take the all important milk for our coffee after the service. As it would have been Dad's 98th birthday today I shall visit his grave later on. Apart from that I need to sort out some recent photos of my own and catalogue them. Popular Post monkeysarefun
The little airfield at work got a visitor today, a visiting RAN MRH-90. We get the occasional Blackhawk, air ambulance and media chopper landing there. The busiest it got was during the bushfires when it was used as a refuelling facility for the water bombing helicopters, the bush behind in the pic is the "start" of the Blue Mountains, 11,400 square km of flammable gum trees. In 1999 it was used by the media and emergency services in response to the nearby Glenbrook Rail accident when an interurban passenger train collided with the rear of the Indian Pacific, killing 7 and injuring 51..
