Early Risers.

A bit of sun this morning but the cloud is quickly increasing, it is cool, 7°C overnight, 11°C while I was having breakfast, I am still wearing long sleeved shirts and will need a sweater to go to church as it can be a bit cold there.

 

After church I may clean the car, the birds have been using it for target practice - they seem to be trying to see who can make the longest white streak down the sides.  If it stays dry I might be able to finish cutting back the second of the poorly lavenders and perhaps remove some of the very invasive ground cover plants, some form of small succulent.  It is probably Sedum acre which people actually go out and buy.  I've no idea where mine came from.

 

I won't be going to the beach today, I think the big car park is partly closed while the "Blyth Live Festival" is being set up ready for Saturday.  It is a free live music event.  Doubtless I shall be able hear it in my garden and probably in the house.  The Headline act is "Lindisfarne Story" which has 2 of the original Lindisfarne, then there is Lonnie Donnegan's son and so on.

 

I won't be going unless I suddenly fancy a walk.

Both commodities have been in very short supply in this corner of West Yorkshire. 

It's grey and cloudy plus colder and windy on the south Coast not far from Wimborne today.  I have also been informed that we are heading to Wimborne tomorrow so be warned.

It isn’t sunny or particularly warm here this morning. I have done my packing for the holiday already and done anything required for the car so I can just be available to do anything else as required today.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bin day today and the lesser spotted glass and bottle wagon is in full voice. Interestingly the food waste is collected by a small battery electric wagon, apparently it has been in use for a year now. @DaveF I always wear long sleeved shirts as I have fair skin and sunburn easily, and mentioning shirts I have a whole pile of them that ought to go to the charity shop. They are clean as the decision to dispose of them is made as they come out of the wash.

I am sitting in 25°C, full on sunshine and.. my joints all work!

 

Our plane was a bit delayed as the airport in our destination was closed due to a flash flood.

 

Long coach ride to hotel but .. food is excellent! Wines and beers are included.

 

So far managed to cover at least 6 miles day!

 

Behave yourselves while I am on my short break.

Afternoon Awl,

MRC this morning, a couple of us on a working party.

Empty storage shed, 

Install shelf at back, put tins of paint back on shelf.

Spare trestle legs loaded into landrover, the halls we now use supply tables. We're retaining two complete trestle tables.

Some of the spare legs will become A frame roadside notices for shows, the rest?

Toilet was being done also, finishing of grouting / sealing of tiles was required.

 

Got home just as SWMBO was leaving with Ben for his long walk.? Ben sat down and refused to move unless I came to. Not good as I was feeling a bit dizzy earlier, so it was a slow plod taking a can of refreshment with me.

 

Real oddity, the club secretary is sending emails to me as usual, most are coming through no problem, but those with attachments are going missing. He's a professional computer person so it ain't his end, but I've searched both emails accounts trash, spam , and every other folder, no can find.

 

Having a rest before unloading those trestles.

BIN day. Only two this week, recycle ever other, so less to shift for the morning rush. Several passed already including the two that service us, result.

 

Nothing much yesterday, Mrs was off to another book club, leaving me to "relax" for the evening. Down a rabbit hole looking for some youtube hobby info.

 

Today, Mrs having lunch with her sister, nothing else happening - if you discount more frenzied report alterations for my Long Island client that is!

 

Heavey but short lived thunderstorm overnight, so wet and cloudy but 19c at BIN time. Clouds/rain forecast some of the day clearing by evening and a high of 27c.

One wonders how many register as a student, get the loans which they otherwise could not get, buy cars etc and then go off to work, not attending university. Something they would not admit on surveys.

The fact they've paid for the course won't worry them, that chicken will come home to roost many years in the future..

It would seem from the lack of attendance of many on JCs courses that there may be many that do that.

It has just started to chuck it down here, I'm glad I finished the outdoor things before I had my cuppa.

 

Church was OK as was coffee afterwards with two new people there.  When I got home I set to and cleaned the car inside and out and checked all the levels, just the windscreen washer needed topping up.  The mess left by birds came off easily as I found some bird lime remover which came in aerosols with previous cars and I've not used much of it before.  It is only the second time I've cleaned it since it was new last October but I have only driven just over 1600 miles since then.  It had also been cleaned twice by the garage when it went to have the wheel checked and then refinished so it wasn't too dirty.

 

I had a Crosta and Mollica pizza for lunch, very tasty.  It was one of their smaller frozen ones which come two to a pack.  I finished off with apple pie and custard.

 

Then I felt a bit full and dozy.  Now I wonder why.

 

Eventually I went outside and finished the lavenders off, one is now just a tiny stump and will come out unless it suddenly sprouts.  I also tidied the greenhouse yet again.

 

This evening will be either a quiet reading session or I may watch "Went the Day Well?", a 1942 film in which an English village is taken over by German paratoopers.  I recorded it a few days ago.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Spent the afternoon sorting out the washing which I ran yesterday. I found it is best to leave it in the machine for a few hours as the spin cycle compresses it into one solid mass that takes time to loosen. Time to see what the best before date lottery has for dinner.

Some TOTF🎶 today but broken up into shorter sessions. Breathing is getting a bit more laboured with whatever lurgy is hanging around. Thankfully, it is making me more precise from the start so, no messing...and still a bit of progress being made. Enough, now, to start polishing up the next section.

 

A quick mugadecaf and then time to get dinner whatever that will be...not thought about it yet. 🤔

Good afternoon folks,

 

With reference to Coombe Barton's post above, my son has worked every holiday since he started university three years ago.

 

Mostly this has been minimum wage bar work, including long days (10-12 hour shifts) and many late finishes/unsocial hours.

 

His girlfriend works two jobs during term time, along with her study time, also at minimum wage rates of pay.

 

I wonder how many businesses would survive if they didn't use students as cheap labour, especially post - Bu99erit.

 

I am surprised they both manage to carry on their courses with all this extra work.

Make a folded piece of kitchen roll nice n' wet then lay it over the poo for 5-10 minutes (it'll even stick to vertical panels such as doors).  Then you'll find that you can just wipe the poo off with the wet kitchen roll.

And 'tis a dark and gloomy one. More like April/October than June... 

 

I took these only two days ago. On a lovely June day... alas, where did summer go? 

 

I mentioned earlier about the patch of 'meadow' I've acquired, over six weeks it's transformed from a rather raggy, moss-filled 'lawn' into a colourful meadow. Too many grasses, I'll have to try and thin those out and get more wildflowers in but as it is, it's not a bad starting point. Much of the yellow is 'Birds Foot Trefoil' - apparently rather rare. There's lots of other flowers in there as well. I think I know the names of about half of them so far! 

 

 

 

The bees love it, as do the local LBJs. 

 

One (serious) question - when this is cut (August?) I will have an industrial quantity of grass and other cut material - if it's cut using a lawn-mower, will this chop the bits up too small for it to be of any use as hay or straw (whether for next door's hamsters or the lass round t' corner's 'field ornament'/lethal killing machine) - or even if it does, could it be of use to anyone else? I can use some myself as mulch/composting but only c 10-20% - I estimate there'll be enough for at least a dozen large bales and it's going to be a lot to 'rehome' in one go. I want to let it lie for a few days to let the seeds drop off for next year but after that...?

 

BTW, any volunteers with scythes welcome for the mowing, can part-pay in treacle tart and/or unmentionable detailing accessories!

Evening all.

 

Finally took FiLs Gurkha Kukri to the local police station today between ‘skip’ runs.  I did call earlier to warn them and ask if it was ok to bring it in. I thought walking in with such a blade unannounced an unwise move. They took it no questions asked - for all they knew I could have been handing in a blade used in some dastardly crime.  I wondered if the no questions asked was a deliberate part of the policy to encourage people to hand such knives in.

 

I can actually see the carpet in parts of the loft rooms where it has lain covered with crap for years.  I feel a second layout  coming on.

Not wrong!  A decent start to the morning deteriorated at 11 into light rain, followed by heavy rain, then thick rain.  Garnished with wind and rain. Pah.

 

Congrats to GDB, quite a term really, we're only at 40.

 

We're off in the campervan soon, to several destinations scattered around the UK.  Some trains may be involved, plus meeting one of Mrs NHN's schoolfriends from Guernsey (Mrs NHN grew up there although is Cornish) we meet occasionally.  They're 60 this year so it is sort of celebratory.  

 

A little naughtniess today in that I ordered a ...one of those.....from Rails - had an e mail offering a Jinty for £125....in 7mm.....done!  It wasn't on the website, had to use the link from the e mail, I wonder if it was a regular buyer's premium offer before it went out to the wider modelling populace. I see it is on there now if anyone fancies a half price bargain.
