(though I appreciate that quality may dip a bit cos' they won't be fresh). Bear is off on Hols to Lisbon later in the summer and I'd like to bring some back for the Hospice Warehouse Guys n' Gals; I'd buy them on the day I fly home but obviously won't be able to store them in a fridge etc. until I get home (if indeed that's a good idea). ... I'll stay off commenting on the food safety side but one issue which might be a problem is taking food through customs. Some items they are OK with and some gets confiscated and destroyed. Sorry to [potentially] rain on Bear's parade, sounds like a nice gesture. Father was posted to Aden during his National Service most of which was carried out in various North African locations. He always told us of how he enjoyed the extreme heat and coped better than many of his fellows. "Heat" in another sense arose in that there were minefields which had to be cleared. Father was an RAF medic; never a nurse or doctor but often carrying out their roles when the need arose. Including emergency surgeries on mine-wounded civilians (usually - the service personnel got first dibs with the "real" surgeon) which would today be termed "life-changing injuries".

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted June 3 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3 A peaceful morning. Leonie came and did the housework for the last time as she starts a new job next week, I wonder who I will get next? The 2 photo albums have been scanned. That makes almost exactly 1,500 family photos scanned dating from about 1874 to the early 1950s. "All" there is to sort out now is: Great Uncle's Prisoner of War stuff including his paintings from WW2 - he was captured in Norway, he was taken to see Hitler as he was one of the first British officers captured and was a prisoner until the war ended. On the web there are some German photos of the moment of his capture. Grandfather's documents about the Home Guard and the Trent River Patrol from WW2. 5 albums of more recent colour photos. 1 bag of photos and documents about Mum. 1 bag of photos etc about Dad during the war - he ended up in India. 1 box and 1 ring binder of other family bits and pieces, including a lot of newspaper cuttings. I bag of bits about the school where Dad was Headmaster. Most of it does not need keeping. Some of the documents are large, they will probably have to be photographed rather than scanned. Then almost everything will go in the bin and I will send copies of the scans to my cousins. The wartime stuff I may keep if it is interesting enough and perhaps send copies to the relevant museum(s). I so no point in keeping paper copies of the rest. RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted June 3 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 3 Bear here.... I posted a piccy of Harry on the Hospice Warehouse Group - one of the Guys was horrified when I mentioned it weighed 230Kg/507lbs dry; then another (who manages one of our shops) mentioned that's what he deadlifted to win the World Championships ratheralottayearsago - he weighs 60Kg. Bluddy hell - it's all I could do to put Harry on the centre stand this morning (in Bear's defence I will mention that I'm "somewhat out of practice"). 11

Yes - but it's the norm now, otherwise they'll walk. Every Hospice Shop I deliver & collect to has problems with shop lifting - one Manageress spotted and challenged someone (before my time) and got a whack for her trouble.

I suppose you could try contacting the makers of the Pasteis de Belem: https://pasteisdebelem.pt/en/#produtos We visited last year and those that did not get eaten survived in the hotel room until the next day. They were wasted on me but Mrs Lurker liked them. Otherwise you could bring the box home and fill it with Waitrose ones ;) 11 1
Popular Post monkeysarefun
The cardboard box works! I just did my standard test print and I'm a happy chappy. This printer uses a different mechanism from my previous ones during the print process. All my other ones have mechanically raised the build plate up to pull the print away from the vat between each layer. With this one though, the build plate stays still and the vat tilts down forwards instead, which is not only much quicker but is also gentler on the print. AS a result, this print took just over 2 hours on this printer, compared to around 3 and a half hours on my previous printers. . Also the gentler peeling action (ie tilting the vat down so the print is released gently, like slowly pulling off masking tape, as opposed to the previous printers which just tear it all off vertically upwards) means that the more delicate parts of the print have a greater chance of surviving. In the case below its the fronds above the lower figures heads, these are incredibly thin and fine and never all survived previously. I just used the default settings for the resin exposure time so I need to dial that in a bit better because the details are a little soft looking , but considering I just unboxed the thing, removed the plastic protective film from the vat and the build plate, typed in the WIFI password, poured some resin in and then sent a print to it its very impressive result. Previously its often taken 5 or 6 attempts to even get an initial print to stick to the build plate. I don't think resin printing can get any more user friendly than this , its just a pity its kind of messy! Anyway, here's the first print off of it, along with the original statue to compare details and a flash drive thingy for scale. Being a test print I just printed it straight on the build plate, normally I raise them up 3 to 5mm on supports which avoids the rough edges that are around the base of this one, but it was just a test so I couldn't be bothered going that far. I got the file from the website of the Scan The World project - https://www.myminifactory.com/scantheworld/full-collection New cardboard box - 5 stars! 13

RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted June 3 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 3 There seems to be an upswing in travel between Singapore and China. Three of the Chinese carriers have upped from narrow body A320s to widebodies recently. The China Southern lunch time arrival from Guangzhou has started using an A350, the early afternoon Juneyao arrival from Shanghai has gone to 787 and the mid afternoon Sichuan arrival from Chengdu has gone to an A330. Some of the China Eastern flights also seem to have gone up a size too, to 777-300. Odd they all seem to have added capacity at the same time, either an upswing in travel or they're looking for something to do with their widebodies. 7

RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted June 3 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 3 (edited) A gentle walk to the post office was undertaken after breakfast and that was followed by more vigorous exercise in the form of car washing. Note to self: Don't leave it so long next time, it was rotten and even had moss appearing in one or two sheltered places. Absolutely disgusted with myself for not doing it sooner and am now paying the price in the form of aching back and limbs. However it is now gleaming and looks like new again. Pills have been taken and after a brief period of eyelid inspection I have rewarded myself with a muggatea and a slice of sultana and cherry cake. I do not intend to do anything else energetic today.
