RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 1 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 1 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Not a bad night last night. Woke up once but no idea of what the time was but I went straight back to sleep again. The lurgy is still hanging on but only the odd cough or sneeze. I might venture out to do some of the G word as the fresh air does me the power of good. 3

I should be able to find somewhere only a few minutes walk away. At one time I would have walked there and back but the distance seems to have increased in the last few years. Aren't you just a teeny weeny bit early for that or was that all part of the overall D Day subterfuge; "We are starting the invasion by invading the North East coast (of the UK) on June 1st"? Speaking of which. I note that a shed load of Dakotas were at Old Warden last weekend on their way to North Weald ready for the 80th anniversary commemorations ION Yet more grasses have been separated from their drying root balls and stuffed in the garden waste wheelie bin. I was thinking of shoving the lot in the back of Monty and taking it down the tip and then I remembered that we had to shell out an additional £55 this year for ~18 wheelie bin collections so stuff it, they can collect it an put it in Timmy the Truck! I'm tempted to go for a ride as both the bikes and I have almost forgotten what a ride is like. Great weather for the time of year ..... It was a long way for the ships to travel from Northumberland to the D Day beaches so they set out a few days early..... More seriously a Saturday is better to attract people. I've been to see it, there may be a few photos later. David

RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted June 1 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 1 There was something in the news a few days ago with Mr Shapps claiming the fact that we don't have enough A400 transports to do the commemorative parachute drop proves we have to spend more on defence. I think the operative word is defence. If the RAF doesn't have enough transports to fulfil its obligations then I think it would indeed indicate we need more of them. However, staging commemorative airshow type stuff isn't really an essential defence requirement. As an aside, has he been questioned why the government offloaded all of the RAF C130Js (still a current and capable aircraft) if we're short of airlift capacity? 2 8

RMweb Premium polybear Posted June 1 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 1 Bear here.... Been working on Harry the Honda today, which is now out of the sh*d once more. New battery fitted (easier said than done - the +ve lead was a real pig to do) then all lights etc. checked & working; that's the first Tick. Then the plugs were removed and the engine spun over (with the ignition off) to get the oil nicely pumped around the engine for the first time in 29(?) years. Another Tick. Post- din dins and the fuel tap and tank were fitted and some fuel put in. Another Tick. Then it was time for some noise.... It took a while for the fuel to get thru' for the first time (always does) and refill the carbs. Once that had happened then Harry started 😀.... But..... Harry was running like a pig - very lumpy and obviously misfiring. Turdycurses. It didn't improve with time so Bear decided to investigate further. I discovered that No. 4 Carb float bowl wasn't filling with fuel. Piggin' Turdycurses. Then after a bit more running No. 3 float bowl started misbehaving as well - no fuel. Rattin' Piggin' Turdycurses. At this point Harry decided to become a right 'sterd to start, and when it does it's as lumpy as Hippo Poo and cuts out at the slightest excuse. Bluddy Rattin' Piggin' Turdycurses. And just when things were goin' so nicely too. Bear has decided that sulkin' is in order, along with a ponder. I'll do a bit more fiddlin' tomorrow but I very much suspect that the bank of four CV Carbs may well need to be removed and stripped for examination and cleaning. Bluddy Bluddy Rattin' Piggin' Turdycurses. As to whether or not A Bear can be Ar5ed to do that or not remains to be seen (at the moment I've a distinct feeling of "I just can't be F. bothered - life's too short") - Harry will be advertised as needing "Recommisioning" anyway so I may well try my luck "as is" first; if I don't get any bites (and at a sensible price) then I can always progress to Plan 2. RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted June 1 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 1 (edited) I had a pleasant time at the D Day event this morning. I went just after it started so parking was very easy with just a short stroll to the Quayside. There was a big stage with various bands and singers performing, I particularly enjoyed the "Shanty Choir" who are associated with the local "tall ship" project. There was also a good brass band with singers. I had a walk round the stands, all the armed forces were represented with a lot of cadets enjoying themselves. Then there were the stalls for local voluntary groups and another set for local food producers selling their wares. The Battery people were there in their replica uniforms with their old jeeps and cars along with the cosatguard and RNLI. It was all quite old fashioned and enjoyable, more like the town carnival of old. It was getting much busier by the time I left. On the way back to the car I went into the old Harbour Commissioners' offices which now houses a Heritage Collection about the harbour and the coal export trade. It is run by the "tall ship" people. On the way home I treated myself to the local baker's "Kornish" pasty for lunch, it just fits on a dinner plate, along with an apple slice for pudding. A few photos are below. I've given the greenhouse a tidy and trimmed some plants, scanned some more photos and finally finished the church things - which took a while as the printer didn't want to print on both sides of the paper. Austin 7 and Morris 8 Jeeps at the Quayside Digging for Victory Real Army Landrover Messing about on the river - the town's two lifeboats. At the top of the embankment is the railway siding for alumina imports, the other side of it is the sea. David Edited June 1 by DaveF
RMweb Gold Hroth Posted June 1 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 1 (edited) Just got back in from my first summer jaunt! Visited Little Moreton Hall near Congleton in Cheshire. Apart from the Hall, which can give lessons to the wonky pub in terms of bendiness, the most interesting thing about this NT property is that they don't have an NT gifte shoppe. instead, its all second hand books... I came away with a book on things that run on parallel strips of metal. 🙃 https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Moreton_Hall Edited June 1 by Hroth Link to wikipedia page
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted June 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 1 Harry the Honda Lives!! 😁 Three hours later and I thought I'd sort the shed a little and make some room on the workbench (not easy....) just in case I decided to fight with a bank of CV Carbs tomorrow. Then I decided to see if Harry would start, not expecting it to.... All I can guess is there was some poo in Carbs 3 & 4 that has either been shifted or dissolved by the fuel - it seems to idle happily and rev cleanly too. A Happy Bear (so far....) Of course it could all got to ratsh1t over the next few days...... 7 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted June 1 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 1 Buggerit as they say. I was doing my volunteering stint at the model railway at National Trust Ormesby Hall and had taken some photographs that I had promised to someone. On the way out I dropped my camera and broke the screen. Fortunately it wasn’t one of my ‘big’ cameras but it was a LUMIX job with a very decent Leica lens on it. It was an excellent ‘pocket camera’ and I’ve had it a good few years now so it doesn’t owe me anything, Still annoying though.

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted June 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 1 Another day of folk whizzing about the rock on very fast motorcycles, ending with the sidecar race being won by two local Manx lads - there'll be some beer drunk tonight! 119.8 mph lap, not quite a record but close, and going some on a 600cc outfit. Trapped at 158mph. Tomorrow the weather looks a bit iffy, so not really going to be a great day by the look of it. @polybear Harry's looking good, when you fail to sell it just put a stamp on and post him over here, I'll look after him. Seriously, he's actually too big and heavy for us now, otherwise we would be having a monetary discussion. I had a CB900FZ back in the day (eeoow, 1978!), his big brother.
