Staff were very attentive too - before they just served English Breakfast tea in a tea bag, I was offered Darjeeling Leaf, Assam in a teabag, Earl Grey leaf, or a selection of herb teas. Based on today's experience, and the evidence of our own eyes that the others in the room were having similar fare, we can only conclude that we had a bad one last time. The threat of a bad review on TripAdvisor had nothing to do with it, as we hadn't threatened that, leaving it until this time before condemning the establishment in print. Dave - based on what I had today, the Feathers is OK. Tomorrow is trip to Church Stretton (two buses) and Friday is the dreaded annual diabetic eye screening which is a short bus ride right into town and out the other way. 14

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted May 29 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 29 Today has gone much as expected. I got quite a lot more photos scanned, mostly of me about one year old together with a few of my godfather who I don't remember as he moved to (I think) Argentina and then (again I think) Canada. There were also a few railway photos but I think they are duplicates of ones I scanned years ago. That filled the morning, then after lunch I finally got the photos posted to the author. I discovered a memory stick makes the envelope thick enough for it to have to go at the large letter rate. I've planted some dahlias in their final large pots and also did a bit of tidying but the ground is still very very wet. Various seedlings are appearing where I cut the heathers down, I will leave them until they are big enough to identify. I had a quick walk at the beach in some quite warm sunshine. The sky is now very dark with showers yet again. I can't face more photo work this evening so it will be a magazine and some TV until bedtime. Is it really the bonkers over the top looney tunes catastrophe we're told? It is presented as being so off the scale bat turd crazy I really would like to see it for myself. I know some of their overseas maritime attaches and representatives and they're just normal people, nothing stands out different to anyone else. From what I understand the NK that tourists see bears little relation to the real deal - it's very, very controlled in order to project a good image. 2 5

RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted May 29 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 29 Afternoon all. The shiny thing has ventured itself upon the Distant (Signal) West after two days of dreary dampness. It is almost warm but the jumper is still on. I took the bus into town after lunch as I had some business to attend to which was more easily managed from the bus stop than the car park. Business was done very quickly and efficiently and full marks to the staff member at the bank with a Spanish name who stopped what she was doing and came over to ask how she might help - then stepped me through a slightly complex procedure to resolve the issue I had. And then I returned on the open-top bus the pretty way around Lamorna, Porthcurno and Lands End. All was OK until the narrow half-mile of road above Treen at which point we met Captain Rantworthy and his Chelsea Tractor. Cornish bus drivers are a league apart in terms of getting through and passing in tight spots - I know because I was one and I still respect their skill - but at this spot there is no way of passing. One side or another must engage backwards gear. He refused. We sat there as traffic built up on both sides. He fumed at our driver who calmly sat in his cab and waited. Other drivers - apparently local - stepped out of their vehicles and tried to get things moving. Two went to the ever-growing back-of-the-line facing us to get them all to reverse. What is it which instils in drivers the stubborn inability to do the bl**d*i*g obvious and go back? Some even tried to do three-point turns in a single-track roadway and found they couldn't. Half an hour later and with a lot of help from locals even Captain Rantworthy was persuaded that his vehicle had a reverse gear and that if he wished to go anywhere at all he must now use it. Our bus schedules allow for such things. Despite pulling into Porthcurno over 30 minutes late I was home only 12 minutes behind time just a few miles farther on. That bus will be back on time and might even have minutes to spare in St. Ives before leaving punctually. Captain Rantworthy was seen to elevate his middle finger in the general direction of the bus; it might have been picked up on the CCTV but there is no dash-cam fitted. 11
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted May 29 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 29 (edited) Wire strangling 99% completed.. I see a light at the end of the tunnel.. Next up.. extensive testing required!! Every year I have to renew my Disclosure and Barring Service Certificate. This can take weeks (even 3 months on occasion). Mine is updated within 12 hours... must be part of my personal history in the jobs I have done. It does have another side to it.. can't go to a number of countries unless I let people agree to it.. NK is on the banned list... Time to check how my slow cooker cooked chilli con carne is doing.. But, earlier today I was informed that a good friend has died of the Big C. He kept it quiet.. devastating to his family and my 2 Herbert's as they went to school with his Eldest children (he had 2 girls and 2 boys). Very sad news. RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted May 29 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 29 (edited) Baz Sorry to hear about the friends Big C. Got a friend who has been having treatment for over a year. very easy to upset him so have to tread so carefully. Not being allowed into NK - can't be on your bucket list, certainly not on mine. I did plan on visiting SK back in 2008 but it didn't come off but did plenty of other interesting places. Three gardens tackled today. Strimming at Mums - she's doing much better than a couple of weeks ago. Cut our lawn then did next doors - knackered so a few bottles and cans opened. Tomorrow Spooning it. I don't see the point myself, as you say, going just puts money into the regime and if you want to go to somewhere completely artificial and 'scripted', there's always Disneyworld. 4 3
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted May 29 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 29 (edited) Evenin' each, Doctor visited and plans have been made. The refurbed and extended surgery will now be doing minor surgical procedures and having looked at one of my problems she said "I'll put you on my list, I'll have that off in a couple of minutes. I'll probably have to wait a month or so for that but it's not urgent. A referral will be made for something else, further medication has been prescribed for a third problem and the last has been deemed nothing to worry about. Good Oh. Seems like Bobby is not quite due for the Knackers Yard yet. Got home in time to find a large drain clearing lorry outside the house, While I was out the manhole partially blocked again and Russ next door did his nut on the phone and they arrived in under an hour. It's now been cleared yet again but we're not holding our breath. Nothing on the box yet again tonight so the headphones are at the ready and some loud rock music will be listened to starting with the three Mexican sisters aka The Warning that I have really become a fan of. Most amusing incident of that nature that Sandy and I witnessed (before Brexit vote) was the confrontation between a large German coach and a smaller Italian coach between Zennor and Morvah. German coach could not reverse because he was leading a queue of about 8 cars, and the Italian driver tried to pull off the road, unsuccessfully. the more he prevaricated the more the queue built up either side. After much gerst=culating and shouting, mainly from the Italian side, he eventually reversed. Sandy and I just sat, smiled and watched as we were unable to move, and kept score. Despite the Latin volubility Teutonic patience won. Edited May 29 by Coombe Barton Typoman

Many moons ago, when Russia invaded Afganistan and the Mujahadeen were doing battle with them, there was a BBC(?) news report showing the Muj. firing Mortars. Then one Shell misfired..... The Muj. started by throwing stones at the Mortar Tube..... The stones got bigger..... The stones became rocks..... The rocks became boulders...... The boulders became bluddy great boulders..... Then several Muj. (all wearing Army Boots) are shown standing around the Mortar Tube kicking F. out of it in an attempt to get the Mortar Shell to fire..... ....At which point the War Correspondent casually says: "Their misfire procedure has something to be desired......" 🤣 Edit: I haven't a clue about all the in's & out's of the pollytikal stuff but I do wonder if the West had simply stayed out of it (the US were secretly supporting the Muj. big time with weapons & money etc) and let Afgan fall to the Ruskies then would we be in the mess we are now? RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted May 29 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 29 Bear here..... Wellwottacrapnight that was.... I was hoping the super duper steroid cream that Doc. prescribed yesterday for Bear's Triffiditis might allow Bear to get a decent snooze. Wrong.........12am....3am.....4am....4.20am.....and then the bluddy alarm goes off at 4.50am cos' Bear had a day at the Warehouse today, preceded by a very early Morrysuns raid at silly o'clock. Poo. The Warehouse was fine, as usual; however Bear felt decidedly "off" not long after starting work for some strange reason - from mid-morning onwards I had a real feeling that if it progressed much further then I was gonna end up in a heap on the floor all of a sudden. All very weird. (I did check when I got home to see if it could've been some weird & not-very-wonderful side effect of the steroid cream, but there's nothing listed in the instructions). Fortunately post-din dins (a strawberry jam sarnie and a nana, for those that like detail**) I was somewhat improved, so ending in a heap didn't happen after all (which is a rather good thing really cos' falling off the tail lift on one of the big vans would certainly sting next morning). **No Cake. No Donuts 😢 There were some yummy Cadbury's Choccy Chip Cookies though - brought in by someone who placed a bet on "the right team" (his team) last Saturday, so that was some consolation. Right, time to snooze methinks.... Bear gone. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted May 29 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 29 Another of those Mrs NHN driven Wetkneesdays - pah. Out early doors - but not as early as PB - as she had a geet big list of do's and wants. All attended to, and mostly positively for a change. Then to the Big City for lunch that was at a newish, poshish place - OK but seriously overpriced, even given the venue. Lots of walking about looking at bikes, drinking coffee and generally chewing it with folk we met, always a gregarious bunch us bikers. Watched a bit of practice this evening but the wind is thin despite a sunny end to the day so gave it best and came home for dinner. New little pills gave an odd night, with a side effect not noted in the destructions, of feeling itches on the skin as if a small creepy-crawly was about - but not really there. As the things are cumulative and noted to take a while to take effect we'll see how I do, but if they do promote a night's sleep without disturbance it will be a big win.
