Morning All,

Woke up to the sound of rain on the roof. I think I’ll turnover and give today a miss.

I see reporters are standing in a street in London outside a black door at 06:00 for no particular good reason. Mute was immediately pressed. They keep playing someone outside getting wet, I know how it feels with my old coat.

Just couldn't get to sleep until after 01:30 but at least sleep was solid after that. I'll try for more shortly. 

 

The great fried egg is shining through the front windows.

 

Cinemas? What are they? Nearest here is 25 miles is away, only when I lived in MK was one in a reasonable distance. When living there ( twice) in went once each time.... One of which I was dragged to see, was Death Race 2000, didn't think much of it.

The 4  times I've lived in this area, I've chosen to see 1 film... Gandhi.

Mad max? Saw part of number 1 on TV not impressed didn't watch anymore. The few films I've seen Gibson in I'm even less impressed.

 

As for music it's extremely rare I listen to the words , it's background noise that's better than other noises, especially now I'm listening to tinnitus with the mute on. I get quite fed up with tourists blasting music out on the broads the bird song is much better..

 

Swmbo is not that fond of cooking, cleaver wielding is not one of her skills, though her first job on leaving school was in a butchers, that was temporary until she could join the  RAF .

 

At this point Ben the it's time to go out Collie arrived, so we did, a breezy northerly, I at first thought a 100% blue Welkin, but looking behind me there were white fluffy things proceeding rapidly in a southerly direction. Heavy dew.

 

Foxgloves, we appear to have quite a few coming out now, all are on ground cleared last year but for some reason or another can't be mowed at the moment. Must tidy those areas up so the mower can do more..

 

Plans for today,

Install a printer next door,

Destroy a sofa for next door but it's elsewhere, recovering anything useful.

 

I need a muggacoffee

I kind of have a lot of sympathy for people of the USA when it comes to politics and elections. The down side of being the leader of a large part of the world is that the whole world follows US elections and has an opinion on it all. People will take an interest in China now but Xi Jinping is just their leader, very few take an interest in their government, politicians or processes. There's a group of countries for which people are aware who leads them and have an interest to a small extent (perhaps Brazil, India, France, Germany, UK, Japan plus Australia in the anglosphere and SE/E Asia and a handful of others) but few are really interested. However, in the case of the US it seems every person and their dog has an opinion on everything, and if many aren't that knowledgeable about their own government it tends to be much worse when offering opinions on others.

Good morning all,

Dull and dismal but dry here at the moment.  Variable amounts of cloud forecast along with sunny spells and the chance of the odd shower this morning and there may be plenty of sunshine this afternoon.  (I'll believe it when I see it) 13°C now rising to 22°C.

One bin lorry due along with Ocado who have made one (acceptable) substitution in a quite large order (for us) due to visitors at the weekend.

More domestic engineering on the cards today, I can hardly contain myself.

The last film I saw at the cinema was Apollo 13 in, I believe, 1995.

Tea taken up to The Boss and I can hear movement from above so any minute now I expect to hear the magic words .

It seems that I will have even more work to do in the near future: re-doing what I have already done. Not through any fault on my side, I hasten to add, but because one of the research teams sent me the “official” normal ranges for lab assessments, whilst using a completely different set of normal ranges in assessing their patients. The only reason it came to light is when I found a lab value that appeared incompatible with life - which I queried - only to be told that the lab finding was bang slap in the middle of the normal range. So all the analyses I have done will have to be redone and THAT cock-up will cost the sponsor several grand for me to sort out…

 

I’m feeling slightly sorry for myself. I rapidly developed - yesterday - a most unpleasant eye inflammation, probably conjunctivitis, which did not abate with cold compresses and using artificial tears. So this morning I called my GP (got through on the 6th ring), explained the situation and asked for a consultation. The receptionist said she’d call me back and, lo-and-behold, five minutes later I get a call saying that my GP (yep, my GP, the same one I normally see [unless he’s on holiday]) can see me today at 09:45. God, I love the Bismarck System!

 

Sometimes, when I “feel sorry for myself”, I indulge in comfort food (why not?), but now that I’m back on my diet, abnegation demands abstinence from pork pies, homemade sausage rolls, spaghetti alla puttanesca and so on.  So now I am at a loss as to how to find solace. My chum, Captain Cynical, suggested that instead of comfort eating I could “annoy the bear” and pour scorn on those MR/LMS/LNER modellers on ER. When I pointed out that I am already “on the list” (several in fact). Captain Cynical then gently reminded me of the maxim that I “might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb”

Anyway, good moaning from the Charente.  The automatic door on the new hen hut is working. I just didn't get up early enough to check what light level it was activated at.  Off to take Beth to physio shortly, though I'm only taking her part way and a friend is taking her out. I think that a visit to the asparagus farm is on the cards for them afterwards. I have two more important tasks though. One to collect 5 litres of pineau made by a local farmer. Then off to the timber merchant.

I will go to the usual srvice at church then after coffee I may go and see if the barber is not on another holiday.

 

Then I will scan more photos.

 

Thinking of the photos of the ship yesterday I wonder if my grandfathers ship happened to be there when another ship sank?

Yep it's going to be door knocking season. I want to have a serious rant at one of the campaign teams regarding all the carp development so in our town but they never knock when I am there. Our town is bcomng a desolate wind tunnel with all the high rise and planned even higher towers on the station car park and entrance. Thru want to relocate the drop off point to the even more cramped other side of the station.

Despite all the extra homes the town is becoming quieter apart from more stabbing incidents. The other week when it was pub o'clock th town was full of school kids and loads of Police who must have got wind of a potential incident. Never seen do many police in town.

 

Today is beer o'clock in that big place using a Travel card. Luckily my train was the ne that wasn't cancelled as numerous Great White Worms aren't stunning at the moment.

The percentages quoted are for the world populations of their respective years. What I can say is that Spanish Flu caused, proportionally, ten times the deaths that Covid has thus far.

Well, it’s still raining, I don’t think it’s stopped all night! Anyway, Sheila has decided to give Zumba a miss today, as WE are going to the Trafford Centre shortly. I would normally do this on my own on a Friday morning, but tomorrow the plan is to go for a walk at Dunham Massey instead, I hope it isn’t raining!

I realised it must have been a while for me since I watched a movie in the cinema instead of streaming something at home when a couple of times today I wanted to catch a line of dialogue I'd missed and found myself  reaching down for the remote control  in order to replay it..

I’ve never much warmed to motorcyclists since that incident in Brighton in 1964, when I nearly had my brand new Carnaby Street suit smudged by a Rocker (fortunately, a handy beer bottle prevented any unwanted déshabillé).

On the subject of the catapult aircraft. The majority were Hurricanes many of which would otherwise be scrapped as obsolete. Most had fought in the Battle of Britain where they were the most successful fighter, shooting down 65% of the German aircraft shot down.
