RMweb Gold BoD Posted May 22 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 22 (Early) evening all. Travelled over from the North East to the North West today. What a bloomin awful journey. Heavy rain, low cloud and lots of surface water. Fortunately no deep puddles as most of the route was up and down and the bottoms of the down bits drained well. Up Weardale and over Hartside for those who know the area. What a pity the Hartside cafe burned down and there is no move to rebuild it. We are over here for a few days to meet up with some of the Canadian branch of the clan. The Fells have disappeared and all the Lakes are full to overflowing. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted May 22 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 22 It's rained all day and looks like continuing with a short break until about 22.00 tomorrow, but less heavily. The greenhouse has water on the floor again. I shall not go far tomorrow. Today I scanned more photos, I've just found a list from which I can identify some of the people in the next album which helps. I shall be pleased when it is finished though, it is quite interesting but very time consuming. This afternoon I braved the weather to visit the podiatrist, the roads were not flooded for a change and I was seen 10 minutes early. My feet are OK and I have nice short toenails again. They will have to be done a bit more often as they seem to be growing a bit more quickly for some reason. I had an e mail from McAfee telling me that one of my e mail addresses plus password is available on the web so I've changed the passowrd (I do every few months anyway). It's one I rarely use. This evening will be spent reading or watching TV and just relaxing, followed by an early night. David

RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted May 22 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 22 So, they spent a couple of million plus on that press room inside Downing Street with really expensive podiums and sound systems yet still insist on reeling out a crappy little podium in the rain every time the PM (at the time) needs to make a speech. That’s probably about as far into polly ticks as we need/are allowed to go here. 5 15 1

Perhaps, as a distraction, we could speak of things that run upon parallel pieces of metal more openly, at least until its all over? 4 13 2

I STILL need someone to explain to me why anyone would pay a director/board member $$$$ to study an 18 column/ 40 row report MONTHLY and honestly admit that it makes a difference. I guess it's better than having them golf all day <sigh> Rain, tell me about it. Started around 6PM and was heavy for hours tapering off around midnight. Totals around 3.2 inches, about the same amount that's our AVERAGE for MAY!!! Today, probably quiet as those that need to, pour over the report and decide the next steps. Later, though I'm not a real basketball fan (Mrs is), we'll be watching as the local team, the Timberwolves, try to win the first game of the Western Conference Finals, arriving here for the first time since 2004, and against heavy odds according to many. Was actually sunny and DRY first thing, 11c expecting to reach 19c later, some light rain early evening. Tally ho.

RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted May 22 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 22 Bear here..... Bear spent the day as mildly Soggy Bear today cos' it was a Warehouse Day, which meant out n' about delivering and collecting from shops and the Ebay warehouse; I could've worn a coat of course, but with all the dashin' around carting goods in n' out of shops and loading/unloading vans I would very soon have become Soggy Bear from the inside out anyway - I decided to go without a coat and get soggy from the outside in cos' at least I wouldn't have been all hot n' bothered at the same time. Today did mark a milestone moment though - I'm now on driving duties as required so Bear was let loose in both the small Van and also the largest of the two big Vans; no screams were heard from my two passengers and the vans were returned in the same condition as I received them, so that's a Tick. ION..... I see there's a fair chance that a game of musical chairs may take place in The Big House on 4th July. Oh deep joy, all that cr@p to suffer for the next six weeks. Turdycurses. Ian Abel
Just thought I'd place this here, one of the pieces we sang for Pentecost, and the title says it all. This version I found particularly appropriate as it was done during the lockdown and makes me believe we CAN all just get on together... RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted May 22 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 22 Evening orl. Was out and about early doors again, bus to the Big City, shopping torture, train ride back, much better. Some precipitation 'was apparent'. And then some. Hips are screaming, must be the weather change. The annoying....really annoying....thing for us about your election is it, in terms of the actions of the elected government of the day, affects us, but we don't get a say. But we still have to endure all the crepe on the telly and the radio. And boy is it crepe. Further comment I have to refrain from. 4

RMweb Premium polybear Posted May 22 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 22 At last - some common sense: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c6ppl7e551do Not so sure about the second vote failing though - it seems that anyone living a life of "unbearable suffering" whilst not terminally ill just has to put up with it. Definitely a Rant. 5

The Met Office website's now working normally for me. Though they've not been very accurate over the last few days - it missed the two thunderstorms earlier this week and the afternoon it was adamant it was going to piddle down was wall to wall sunshine strong enough to give you heatstroke... 🙃 Mixed fortunes this week so far, we have an issue with the central heating and some progress was made, though at the cost of a few Deltics. However, some problems remain. Positive news in 'nature notes', a blackbird pair are nesting in the back garden. And the grass outside is being left uncut for no mow May and is currently flourishing with wild flowers. I am not getting too close but I think a colony of bees has set up shop in a quiet corner of the garden. I saw a few queens wandering about a few weeks ago. Plenty of military aerial activity this week, including USAF jets. But I'll tell you about it another day, long day and I'm bushed, so will bid you adieu for today. I've got a Big Sponge for hurling at the telly when the speaker is more than usually annoying. Foam "bricks" used to be available for a similar purpose, but they don't seem to be a thing nowadays. Its been bucketing down all day, and is likely to do the same tomorrow. Currently don't need either the Met Office or the pale imitation the BBC uses to tell the weather... It is drizzling a bit now but I am too tired to move. Awaiting a sunny spell! Looks like a Penstaman but might be wrong. 2 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted May 22 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 22 Good evening everyone Well the rain has never stopped all day, we’ve occasionally had less rain, but it’s never stopped! In fact, it’s been so wet, I’ve not been outside at all, I stayed in the cellar instead and added the final detail bits to my micro layout. Once they’d been fitted, I gave it all a coat of varnish, followed by a second coat after dinner. After tea, we had our weekly telephone catch up with Vickie, getting the latest on the grandchildren and updates about their school activities etc.

As we don’t have any rhubarb at least there will be gooseberry crumble.
