Bit misty this morning.. flights will be delayed as getting to the end of the runway for take off will need individual guidance. Lots to do today so.. stay safe ! RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted May 17 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 17 Goo moaning from a rather cool, degrees, Charente. Happy birthday to young Gwiwer. I had my respite afternoon yesterday and it went well. A good natter was had with Andy and plenty of Trains were seen. I even got some lines in the book. This moaning I'm waiting in for a parcel delivery. 71Kg of trampoline for a young lady to bounce on in August. Whilst waiting I will continue work on the automatic door for the hen house. Beth is off to the asparagus farm this afternoon with a friend. Jamie 19
RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted May 17 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 17 Good morning all and a Very Happy Birthday to Rick. Blue sky and sunshine here. Sunny spells, patchy cloud and isolated showers all forecast. 11°C rising to a high of 22°C. Today's main event for me is an appointment at midday for a diabetic eye check so rides on a bus or in a cab are required. Whoopee. Later this afternoon The Boss is going out for a while with Abbie & Nicki, something to do with Nicki's wedding later in the year that is way above my pay grade. Time to take Herself some tea. Have a good one, Bob. 13 1

RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted May 17 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 17 Morning, from a rock where the sun is breaking through the gloom, 16c and dry on Old Farts morning, wow! Only three attendees this morning, several of the boys have prior arrangements to deal with. I think we're going to the Big City for a change, I prefer to avoid it but there is a good brekky place on the prom we tested on wetkneesday that the boys want to have a try at. Then we're off out this evening with friends for a curry, so can't attempt the big breakfast! Happy Birthday Rick @Gwiwer have a goodun. Was awoken with cramp in a foot - not the bad one - in the wee hours, not sure what that was about, although all three of the little pills I take have it as a possible - but it hasn't happened before. Not likely to be salt shortage, diet was sensible yesterday. Will keep a watching brief on it, it can be indication of other things. 12 1
RMweb Gold DaveF Posted May 17 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 17 An early start this morning as I got up at 06.00. That gave me plenty time to have breakfast and take my medication 30 minutes afterwards before going out. I even had time to put photos on here and flickr. The reason was to take the car to the garage for 08.00 to have a wheel refinished under the tyre/wheel/paint warranty which I took out when I bought the car. The wheel got damaged when I was parking - I didn't actually curb it as such but I didn't notice the pothole right by the curb, the wheel went into it and just far enough sideways to catch the curb. I left home at 07.30 as it takes about 30 minutes to get to the garage because of the morning traffic. What traffic? I was there by 07.50. Apparently so many people work at home, especially on Fridays, that there are fewer cars about. Things, including traffic have changed since 2005 when I retired from full time work, after then I worked part time, mainly from home and went to the school only when I needed to see people as I was doing IT admin things, it was actually easier to do most of it from home. I suppose I was a very early example of WFH. I now have a courtesy car for the day, the next model down from mine, I am pleased I bought the one I did. All being well today will be yet more scanning and a bit of gardening. At the moment though it is dull and cold so the gardening may be a bit later. When the car is ready the garage will ring me so I can go and collect it. David
RMweb Gold Hroth Posted May 17 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 17 Popped out early to throw a greeting card in the post and had a quick canter around Sainsbugs while I was out. I did notice quite a bit of traffic on the road, some was definitely commuter, but the majority on the way back were Mad Mumsies* on the Skool Run... * Lemmings, I tell you!!!! 3

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted May 17 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 17 Good morning everyone First off, birthday wishes to @Gwiwer, you’re only 15 months younger than me! The sun is trying its hardest to shine, but the clouds are determined to prevent it happening. Anyway, I’m hoping the sun wins, as I’ll shortly be setting off for the butchers for the weekly meat rations and a pork pie for today’s dinner. Then it’ll be the weekly visit to the Trafford Centre for a few more bits and pieces. I’ll also have a walk to WHS to see what magazines they have to tempt me with. Back later. RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted May 17 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 17 (edited) Morning all. Happy birthday to Rick. It is sunny here. Apparently a gardening day. Like Bob, I seem to get my diabetic eye tests on sunny days. Mine was last week and the results letter came yesterday. No diabetic retinopathy. Parcels may be arriving, I don’t think any are for me. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 17 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 17 Morning all from Estuary-Land. A good night last night, no interruptions again but the knee has started playing up since breakfast so pills have been taken. Will be expecting a telephone call from the surgery re. the above mentioned knee to see if a visit to the osteopath can be done as soon as. 9
Popular Post monkeysarefun
I have a huge problem with tonights upcoming AFL game, Sydney V Carlton at the mighty SCG. Sydney is my home town but Carlton was the team I've supported since back when the AFL was the VFL, and just Victorian teams took part. I chose to support Carlton back in the 70's when I started playing Australian Rules at school. At that time Australian Rules was a weird game played down south that we dubbed "Aerial Pingpong". We in NSW were a staunch Rugby League state back then and were studiously uninterested in whatever they had to offer. Then the VFL started sending missionaries up here in the mid seventies, and although many were murdered or "went missing" , by focussing on schools a foothold was eventually gained. I was hooked after playing one game. Its like being a human Border Collie, chasing a crazily bouncy ball around for 80 minutes on a huge ground, kicking it, punching it, finally picking it up and then getting spun round and round and thrown into the ground before you can get rid of it - it is basically just maximum rough-housing with minimal interference from the powers that be with the whistle. You can be huge, you can be lithe and petite, theres a position for you. No boring violations for being offside, no boring violations for forward passes, no stoppage time if you get injured - you are totally free to express your individuality in a sporting context. Due to its Victorian territorial limitations back then I had to choose a Victorian side to support. I chose Carlton due solely to the Skyhooks album that was huge back then called "When The Sun Sets Over Carlton" giving me the only Melbourne name I could identify. I've supported them ever since, even when South Melbourne moved north as a result of the eventual AFL incursion in the eighties, and morphed into the Sydney Swans. That said, I am a strong believer that you should support your home team so I am very conflicted. Luckily. I have a neutral arbitrator - South Australian beer - to help me through it! On top of this, there is a car and bike show at the local Primary school on Sunday, and Mad Max 5 opens on Thursday - I could die happy right now. (well, actually, not now - preferably AFTER I've seen Mad Max!) Australia, the opposite of a rant! (PS: 10 minutes in - one side is getting there bottoms handed to them!) Popular Post monkeysarefun
35 minutes ago, polybear said: Docs don’t like them cos’ they cost oodles MY first MRi was done as an emergency (since I'd been run over!) so it was covered by Medicare (Our NHS basically). The second one was due to my lifestyle choice of running marathons and thus buggering my knee so I was pinged with the cost. I have private healthcare so it ended up costing me something like $110. Both were done the same day that the docs said I needed them - I was basically just pointed down the corridor to the MRI guys. "Free medicine" here is a bit of a dodgy subject - I can decide against contributing to private medical cover but when tax time comes I have to admit that I have no private cover and I get penalised accordingly so its an incentive to have it. On the other hand, no one here will be refused medical care, the default assumption is that you have medicare coverage and will get the same treatment as anyone else. RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted May 17 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 17 Afternoon All, Firstly, a very happy birthday to Rick @Gwiwer. Hope you have many more in your Cornish hideaway. 30747 went to Shrewsbury today by bus, as she wanted to see how much an antique jeweller would offer for something she bought at a village summer fete - it was a little brooch which she suspected was a Victorian mourning brooch with a lock of hair encased in it. Turned out that it was, and was unhallmarked 9ct gold. She paid £9 for it at the fete, and sold it to the jeweller for £80 - and the jeweller will probably add a further 50% to that. Yes, when it comes to trinkets and the like, she's got a very good eye. She's coming home now, but her bus is late, as is her connecting bus. Bustimes.org is a pretty useful tool with almost every bus able to be tracked. Meantime, I am on dinner duty - one of my Chinese style omelettes with string chips, I think - I'll get on now and sort out the ingredients.
