RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted May 9 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 9 Yesterday I was in hospital visiting Mum. She was admitted just over a week and a bit ago after falling asleep on the sofa and slipping off it not the floor late at night. She pressed the home response button around her neck and a neighbour was called plus me and my brother. I was asleep in a hotel in Kidderminster so didnt her the call. Eventually an ambulance arrived in the morning to find here resting against the sofa as she couldnt get up. She was Ok but after taking a blood sample they found that she had an infection and took her to hospital. Two days ago she was sitting on the hsopital bed putting her socks on ready to be taken home when she fell off the bed and badly cut her hand hence why she is still there. When she does get home, the hospital will have arranged temporary visiting care and then we can arringe the longer term visiting care. I have cameras around her property but I am now going to put a camera in the living room to keep an eye on her. She is OK with that. Cur next doors lawn this week but need to cut ours today before going to Mums place. Luckily she has someone cut the lawn for her.
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted May 9 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 9 Good morning from a rock that has no moles. Or foxes, or snakes - bar the political ones - ours are no better than the UK version. 12c and sunny to start, let's hope it stays that way. I have to go to the Big City to collect my new glasses today, methinks I'll check they are in first, having previously fallen foul of promised delivery dates (promised yesterday). Then I'm not sure what follows, my hips are too sore to ride the bike again, so that's not happening, I have a feeling SWMBO wanted something from the orange DIY store but I'm (*&^%$£ if I can remember what it was!
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted May 9 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 9 (edited) I have a suspicion those " crossing the floor" have neither party nor constituents in mind, they are professional politicians just wanting to keep a job. Mooring Awl 1/2 hours sleep, 1 hours sleep, 5 hours sleep. Ben the now sleeping Collie, has been on patrol, he was hesitant at first, then he found a very interesting smell and followed it all over the garden.. Dull grey welkin again, just the merest hint of drizzle, though I suspect the grassy wetness is more from dew. Notalota breeze. Bluebells are conspicuous by their absence this year, very few have come up. Even those that have come up have disappeared early.. hmm just looked it up, muntjac deer and squirrels eat bluebells.. I have a lot of both in the garden. They are a mix of Spanish, native , and hybrid blue bells , I'm tempted to mow the area early and seed British bluebells. Dad did a lot of family research getting back to the 1550s, going further would have required visiting various places which he wasn't able to do. One of my sisters has taken it over, but is finding it difficult to go further, she has the problem in that she doesn't drive, which makes it difficult visiting kirks in small villages. Plans for today. MRC sink fitting. Spinny thingy, Time for breaky there's a certain doggy complaining I haven't got his bacon yet. RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted May 9 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 9 As it happens I think the bluebells here are having a good year, the island is a sea of blue in places, but of course we also have no deer or squirrels! The bluebells do have to compete with the wild garlic that is absolutely everywhere and makes quite a stink, while flowering, then they both give over to valerian which is also everywhere!
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted May 9 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 9 Good morning everyone The ban collar day this week has thrown the whole week out, we both kept think he was Tuesday and the fact that I’m going to the Trafford Centre today, is only going to make things worse. The reason for today’s change is that we’re hoping to go to Dunham Massey tomorrow for a walk around the grounds again. So, once I’ve dropped Sheila off at the church hall for her Zumba class, I’m heading off to the Trafford Centre today instead of gardening. Charlie isn’t coming round today, as he’s off out with some of his mates, so no workshop for me this afternoon. So I might sit at the dining room table and do some more building construction. Back later. Brian
RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted May 9 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 9 Morning all, A genuine ER this am, was woken at silly o'clock and couldn't get back to snoozy-land. I was just lying there worrying - there's a lot of problems at the moment, one reason I haven't posted much about what's been happening chez moi, it's too depressing. And for every problem dealt with, two appear to replace them, which given the timing, is truly remarkable coincidence. There's a lot outside my control/influence and given their recent past performance, depending on others is not conducive to a relaxed state of mind. Especially what happened the last two times I was put under this much pressure. Perhaps Fate is trying for third time lucky? It's not very easy but I try and get away from such carp for a while - our bluebells have not done badly this year, we do have some squirrels round here as a couple of months ago they tried to scoff the peanuts in the bird feeder, one chewed through the top, gorged him/herself silly and buried caches round the garden before he/she was detected. The daffodils didn't do well but the bluebells did put on a decent show, as did the whitebells. The early welsh poppies are out now and some london pride is starting to bud. The daisies are out and the ox eye versions are growing like Topsy. Our 'Stinky Bob' is blooming and I've seen some Campion in a few of the local lanes. Now for some breakfast - several things to try and do later but I have a nasty feeling other things will interrupt. We'll see. 2
RMweb Gold DaveF Posted May 9 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 9 A dry but cloudy morning and mild enough to open the greenhouse door to give the plants some fresh air. Shortly I will set off for church, hopefully when I get there someone will know what is happening. I should have a parcel delivery via Royal Mail sometime today, I may try to do some gardening after lunch. David

One of his sources was the local LDS(Mormon) centre in Huddersfield. Initially he found it useful then started cross checking. After that he only used it sparingly. Those two problems with family research are related. The Mormons created Ancestry and they and the RC church don't see eye to eye. The reason is that the Mormons 'baptize' all who appear in Ancestry into their church and the RC church objects to this practice and won't release any documents such as BMD registers to them. Before the 1550's such records relating to the UK were almost entirely RC so are unavailable without a lot of searching. If for example you found that you had Irish antecedents it is possible to go back further as many churches still hold the records but first you have to identify which parish they lived in and if and where and if they are obtainable. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 9 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 9 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Despite taking the strong pills before I went to bed last night the arthritis kicked in with a vengeance. The slightest movement sent shooting pains down my left thigh so every time I turned over it woke me up. I received my insurance quote for the car today, ouch! Problem is that I have no criteria to compare it with as it is a larger and more powerful car than my old one. I will get a few more quotes before I renew it.

The Lurker
20 hours ago, PhilJ W said: Yes it is a lot of fun, and sometimes embarrassing. When I started looking into my family tree I discovered one of my great grandmothers had the maiden name of Mogg. Being such an unusual surname I started tracing it back and got as far back as my 3X great grandfather a farmer living in Podimore, Somerset in the early 19th century. I was using Genes reunited through which you can compare family trees so I looked for the surname Mogg in the surrounding villages and contacted the owners of the family trees. One of the first I contacted replied that her 3X great grandfather was a brother of my 3X great grandfather and whats more she sent me a copy of the Mogg family tree dating back to Tudor times when the name was 'invented'. It was adopted by a father and son originally named Keen in the mid 1550's when Mary Tudor was on the throne. I thought that you were going to say you found you were related to Jacob Rees-Mogg. That would have been embarrassing. 5 2
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted May 9 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 9 Happy Thursday all. The day after Flora Day when those still in Helston will not be early risers and when those of us who made it home still woke with tired legs from having been standing on them all of yesterday. Today is porch-painting day. The Leyland's is out. The brushes are wielded and all the woodwork in and out will look shinier and newer by sunset. A perfect day for glossing, really, as it’s dry, breezy, low humidity and around 14C. Tomorrow I’ll check for stray paint but having cut in around all the windows without a problem so far I’m hoping the clean-up will not be needed.

ION Against my better judgement, I did some more "gardening" this afternoon, despite my back still twinging, as something needed to be done with the remaining bedding plants. These have been distributed in a trough and in a couple of terracotta planters, rather than their originally designated home. Now thats done, I'll shortly make a muggatea and page through MRJ 303, while munching a "Portugese Custard Tart". Its a hard life, but someone has to suffer it!
RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted May 9 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 9 ' afternoon all from red dragon land. Sunneeeeeee. 😎 18.8C Inside 20.2C I may pop out! This morning, I had my first toot on the flute in front of the fireplace for quite a few days. Good to sit on the mat in front of the fire to play again. Not so good battling my stuffed up dose and throat though. I can say I am still making some progress despite the nasal problems so that is consoling. The song is coming along at the faster speed and I have brought the exercises of the other raga up to the same speed so that I can feel some connection between the two, hoping they will influence and benefit each other, especially the twiddly bits! Tossing up between a laboured walk on the hill or another laboured toot on the flute. Take care. Be good. Choose wisely. Polly 3

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 9 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 9 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. As I have mentioned I do the NY Times *Wordl game every morning. This morning I got the word at the second attempt.😁😁😁 26 minutes ago, TheQ said: But of course many of the churches became Church of England , and kirks became Presbyterian or Episcopalian. But most of the records were destroyed on Cromwells orders. *In Wordl you have six attempts to find a five letter word. You have to guess the first word and if a letter from the word of the day is in your guess it lights up green if it is in the right place and yellow if it is in the word but not in the right place, letters that are not in the word show as grey. It is easier than it sounds.
