RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted April 27 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 27 (edited) During the rest of the morning I looked at the recently scanned photos on the TV screen and sorted out where a lot were taken, fortunately many were of seaside places which have not changed much over the years with one exception - Sandilands in Lincolnshire which was devastaed by the 1953 floods so the beach huts all went. I had a quick walk along local roads, the council seem to be adopting no mow May, there are some nice dandelions and daisies along with a lot of blossom on the trees most of which are flowering cherries plus a couple of crab apples. Then it was time for lunch followed by a read and an accidental nap. Later on I had a look in the garden and found a few more plants are starting to grow which I thought had died in the wet weather. Even the sad looking lavenders are showing signs of life. The plants in the greenhouse are settling well and enjoying the bright sunlight today. It doesn't sound much but it has been a very pleasant day. Shortly there will be cheese sandwiches to eat, then a bit of TV and more reading. At the moment I tend to prefer reading, the list of things I do not watch gets ever longer. David Edited April 27 by DaveF

(I've a Garage and a Shed...) I've got a garage and three sheds. The garage(rented from the council) is used for storage as even the i10 wouldn't fit in there so there's no chance that its replacement would fit. Shed # 1 is at the bottom of the garden and is as rotten as a pear, and it's got woodworm. Shed # 2 is a diminutive shed used for garden tools. Shed # 3 is brick built and is attached to the house. It was built as a coal store originally it was external but when the house was extended its now internal. Its about 1 x 2 metres inside and it is earmarked to become a downstairs loo. The problem is that it is single skin brick and will require insulating. Also halfway along one of the long walls is a brick pillar that supports one corner of the house and if insulation is installed will reduce the width to less than 60 cm. 5 hours ago, jjb1970 said: Apparently I missed a bit of drama while I was away, a visiting tarantula. Is external insulation practical? Or don't insulate the pillar to the same degree as the rest of the room (insulated plasterboard maybe?)

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted April 27 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 27 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Not a bad show in Romford, I didn't spend much. The only fly in the ointment was that they had marked off disabled bays with traffic cones Car width/2 traffic cones/car width etc. as there was no official disabled places. When I came out I found someone had moved the traffic cones to in front of my car and parked has car so close to mine that I couldn't open the drivers door. I reported it to the chap doing the car parking and he called the exhibition manager who took one look at the car and said he knew who's car it was and he'd get him to move it. The owner turned up a few minutes later wearing an exhibition stewards badge, he was a member of the host club. One of the other stewards who was there opined that the car owner would get a Bight Rollocking at the next meeting.
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted April 27 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 27 Thinking of sheds I don't have one... but I do have a greenhouse which is very full of plants, under the staging are more plants and useful garden things. The garage is full of important things and treasures, none of which can be thrown away even though they don't get used. The house has just enough space for model things, computers, far too many books - and me. The loft is less full than it was, when I can get up there again I know there are some things which must go - or be put in the garage. However there is a solution, move the pillar so that its outside the shed as there's more than a metre wide opening where a new pillar could be built and a bit of space 'grabbed' for the toilet. 12

David Best to empty the loft completely while you can still get up there as the day will come when you can't get up there. I can no longer get up into my loft but luckily I've only got some empty boxes up there. 1 1 4

Everything we were not quite ready to part with was put in proper boxes. The plan is if we haven’t used it or had requests for it in a few years it will be disposed of to charities or recycling. It is neat so if even we can’t do it we can pay for it to be cleared. Tony

I did find someone willing to sell a traditional license of Office - not 360. I'm happy to have it. It doesn't appear to 'phone home' - unlike Chrome which does so constantly and always wants updating - much like Windows does. 6 6

I'd empty my Loft - if I had a Garage to put the stuff in (which would kinda defeat the object really); it does need some very difficult decisions made sometime soon-ish though. The first Great Cull will be in the Shed though, just as soon as Harry is sold. 15 1

My original plan was to have the loft emptied by this Easter but a bad chest infection last autumn followed by the hernia surgery this year is delaying things. I do know what is up there and where it is going when I can get on with it, hopefully towards the end of this summer.. RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted April 27 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 27 Well, my OK ish morning turned into a lovely afternoon, at last! We decided to walk up the the 'Gooseneck', a tight, steep corner on the TT course as the road was closed for a car hill climb race - happens every year. Just as we were arriving there was a screech of tyres several very loud bangs and...oh pump, I think the saying is. Impressively, he crashed before the corner - not sure exactly what happened, but he spun, hit both sides of the road before rolling OVER the wall without damaging it, which is more than can be said for the car. I understand the driver was not seriously hurt. I think its a Lotus. Or it was........ 1 4

Ohmisterporter
Insurance for house and contents is due for renewal next month, Last year it was £354.92 and this year they want £833.53, nothing has changed in the cover provided and we made no claims. I think a new insurer may be in order. Edited April 27 by Ohmisterporter Forgot to say it was Saga. 7

Beth is now getting better treatment as she does speak quite a lot of French. Even the numb nuts has come round after she showed him the daily graph on her blood sugar reader. Things are improving and so is Beth. It looks as if she will be discharged on Monday. The pain in her shoulder is subsiding. As to sheds, the main one is 10m by 40m with a 70 sq metre hangar attached which is the woodshed, there is also a 30 sq metre hangar on the opposite side which is now Cluckingham Palace.new inhabitants will arrive in June before Emily visits in August. Oh and there is a 5 sq M pool shed as well to house the pump and chemicals., pool toys erc. Is that enough to get me on the list. A hangar is an open fronted shed probably the derivation of the word used for somewhere to store aeroplanes. Anyway a good meal was cooked, all from fresh and some strawberries and cream. I have watched a good part of one of my favourite films, The Horse Whisperer. Jamie Edited April 27 by jamie92208 19 1
