RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted April 27 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 27 I had a much better sleep so I feel more with it today. The photos I sent to one of my cousins, Karen, were well received, she has forwarded them to the rest of her siblings and there have been a lot of comments. Karen and her sisters are going to visit some of their Irish relatives next week so they are taking copies with them, they are a huge family so they hope to identify everyone. Some of the photos I sent were taken at their parents wedding in Dublin with all the relatives attending. I have been asked to send more photos as I scan them. I have also been sent a copy of part of a family tree one of them, Tim, has been working on. I think his is the same as my handwritten one. I shall have a look on Ancestry in a few days, I will have to find some more hours in a day I think. This morning so far has been spent sending them some more photos and answering questions from them about the friend who died and his sister who they also knew a long time ago - who I think I only met once. In a few minutes I am going to have a good look at the photos I scanned mainly to see if I can work out where they were taken. I'm not sure after that, I may just have a walk and then relax. Popular Post Ohmisterporter
We live in a rural area and although we see plenty of birds in the garden only house sparrows nest here, in the eaves. They are not really a problem apart from scratching and chicks chirping in the eaves above the bedroom. We are used to it though. A note of caution regarding starlings. Last year a pair nested in the eaves above the back porch and evidently had never heard the old adage about not doing it on your own doorstep. What a mess they made! I had left it too late to block the eaves opening where they nested, in fairness one cannot block the entrance when there may be chicks inside. As soon as they had flown the nest I blocked it off though; no chance of a second brood there and they have not returned this year. On one day we saw Great Tits, Blue Tits, Long Tailed Tits, and Coal Tits in the garden, never at the same time though. I thought a pair of Wrens were starting to nest but they abandoned it after a visit from a neighbour's cat. Stay safe all. 20

RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted April 27 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 27 Mornng All Yesterday was my most adventurous day so far since my illness. Bus at 09.43 to Ludlow, off at the market place, visited loo, walked back through the High St to the stop for the bus to Shrewsbury which we took out to the Ludlow Farm Shop - where we managed to spend £25 plus on marmalade, chutney, tartare sauce, coffee, and a half price Victoria Sponge CAKE - moist, and well filled with buttercream and their home made jam - delicious, but quite expensive at over seven quid full price. Then walked back to the bus stop - bus into Ludlow, and into Aldi (bus stops outside) for a few bits that we forgot, then bus back from Aldi to the park and ride. It was great to actually meet people and have a chat - though after I got back, I had an hour's kip. Today, 30747 went into town to post a parcel and drop off my prescription request, Managed the latter, but the Post Office was shut. However, she picked up a replacement fireside rug from a charity shop, and brought it back on the bus!! The drivers are getting used to her antics with pieces of furniture (smalllish), rugs, and the like all being fair game for fetching home on public transport. Now that you have got the house tidy and the shed clear of motor bike , you could sell up,and move to Essex. I am sure you would be happy here. Lots of properties with garages and sheds. When we moved in the chap who planted the leylandii hedging looked over and his first words were “you haven’t got a shed”. A few years later I helped him set up his dial up modem, and suggested he searched for something online. He actually entered “sheds”. He and his wife divorced, she let the hedge grow into huge trees, he went to France and had many sheds. I did think my access to our sheds was so,I could apply the preservative stain but Aditi has done that herself the last few times. I nearly forgot, I have to,deal with naughty rodents. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted April 27 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 27 Good afternoon everyone Late on parade today due to having to collect a click and collect package from the Trafford Centre. There's no Ava today, as she's been away with school this week and is very tired. So I was decided to take advantage of the nice weather and do some gardening. I'm hoping to dig up a few plants from the front garden and replace them with some new ones. Back later Brian

However, the few people I do know well are either in Bear Ave. or in the nearby general area, so if I did move very far then I'd lose that aspect of my life (or it'd make contact/seeing them/giving & receiving support more difficult) which, as a solo Bear gets more & more important with age. Now if I had a Polina in tow then things might be different..... 13 2

Well once the ladies at the charity depot have got you looking fed on the cakes they will turn to the next matter which is introducing you to a suitable friend. After his wife died a few years ago, (although she had pleaded, with him to look for, someone else) he was determined to stay single. He occupied his time doing jobs and caring for various elderly neighbours. One of his neighbours said she knew a nice lady who she thought would make a lovely companion for my brother. He eventually agreed to a meeting. Planning a wedding now! I must admit we never felt close to his previous wives but this one sounds lovely, although we have only spoken on the phone. I suspect the elderly lady who introduced them will expect to be flower girl at the wedding. 9 2

Ben the sleepy collie didn't get up early, probably because when we went out it was light rain with heavy blobs. After breaky, to town to get our and Ben's pills, Ben's successfully got , ours... No. It seems the surgery / pharmacy is now 8:30 till 17:30 Monday to Friday only... Ben's are for a 1 week trial of new pills then another urine test to check the results.. Got home then went next door with Ben to see neighbour and printer.. printer no go , definitely black print cartridges not being recognised. It was bought for her by a friend via Amazon, I've left her to sort that out. Noticed while there her Internet is less than 1MB up or down !!! Ours next door is 25Mb +, then noticed her phone which still works is plugged into the phone line.. but looking it up it's not a Voip phone and we've been viop in this area since September... Most odd.. Then we took Ben to the Beach, he was extremely happy bouncing around, we weren't, darn chilly wind coming off the sea.. Got back to find the postie has been... I've been invited to join a joint NHS / company / university trial for Oral SemaGlutide, it's a 5 year trial, .. This is an oral version of the drug wealthy people/ actors have been taking to lose weight. It's real purpose it to control diabetes with a side effect of reducing heart attacks and strokes.. Looking it up it's an expensive drug, it appears to be a deltic*** to two deltics a month depending on strengths. I'm inclined to join the trial, I hope I get the real thing not a placebo, I'd soon know, it has a side effect of... Gas gas gas.... Time for something to eat... *** That's £10,000+ worth!!!. Gas gas gas.... Aditi was offered that too. She declined as her diabetes is well controlled with two medications and she didn’t want to replace it with a placebo. The information provided was not clear about whether or not existing medication was altered. If there had been a bit more information she might have made more enquiries. My mother had leukaemia. On one occasion a consultant told her she definitely needed to,start a course of chemotherapy. He was pressuring her to join a trial that would benefit other patients. However the trial paperwork showed it was a double blind trial and a significant number of patients would be getting a placebo. Also the trial would have required her to travel to the hospital five days a week which would have been difficult. Only offering necessary treatment which might include no treatment seemed unethical to me. Edited April 27 by Tony_S 1 7 2

My head has been hurting (more than usual), I'm feeling a bit "spaced-out", a few funny twinges here and there and feeling apathetic (most usual). The after effects of yesterday's Covid jab perhaps? So notalot happening here today - PAH! I have been fiddling around a bit with the new Chronometric testing machine and making slow but steady progress. The belt drive from the brushless motor has been fine tuned (as in the effective gear ratio) and it will now drive the Chrono to FSD (120mph on this occasion). I'm just working on the IR rotation counter at the moment. This will give out one pulse per revolution and allow me (knowing the number of turns the speedo cable does per mile) to check the calibration of the attached speedo either by inspecting the pulses on a scope or, if I can work up the enthusiasm, via some Arduino code and a little display directly on the gadget. I think it must be time for a very late lunch and some slumping in front of the TV now. TTFN 3

No idea. I do understand why medics like placebo trials but possibly withholding treatment from someone who needed it and perfectly good treatments existed seemed wrong especially as it required her to taken the clinic day for a month or so. Poor Mum, who had always allowed extra samples for research or allowed doctors to try and see if something worked, felt guilty fro not helping. I looked up the research and told her she wasn’t exactly holding up scientific progress. There were hundreds of similar projects in the English speaking world, some of whom had already published. There was none of that sort of thing when she moved to Worcestershire. Her treatment for all her conditions there was really good. RMweb Premium The White Rabbit Posted April 27 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 27 Afternoon awl, Good to hear from @grandadbob, looks like good progress has been made with ... ahem ... 'wallpapering'... 😉 Sympathies with Jamie over the poor treatment for Beth. Been there, it's very hard to avoid losing control and inflicting physical harm on morons/insensitive *'s. Fingers crossed for several other ERs too, we seem to be having a nasty outbreak of ill health and problems, either ERs themselves or loved ones. Not much to report from this end, was awake at silly o'clock (again) but didn't fancy any piddling in a puddle. Strangely, I think I was woken by my dream, our neighbour's recently put a fence up and I dreamt 'William' (a Pug [dog]) dug underneath the gravel board and ran towards me, leapt into my arms and started licking my face with great enthusiasm. Which knocked me over onto the grass... I do get on well with most dogs but they are not usually that affectionate... Sent myself back to sleep again by thinking about possible transplant sites for various garden plants. Various odd jobs done. There are three gatherings the awl would disapprove of this weekend I would have liked to go to but it would not be sensible to try for any. Hopefully another year. A couple of plants planted out and some late seeds sown. In nature notes, we seem to be seeing more of a blackbird couple, they have both been throwing grass cuttings about recently, wondered if they were collecting nesting material but I think they were just hunting for insects. Their behaviour was certainly reminiscent of the phrasing in a certain muddling handbook (re garden railways) about them burrowing into [loose] ballast and throwing it left right and centre in their pursuit of worms. I suspect they are nesting somewhere close by. 17
