RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted April 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 1 Bear here..... Just had the dreaded: This community is temporarily unavailable Please wait a few minutes and try again. Well it seems that the day might be ok until at least 3pm (well, according to the Met Office Website - which is about as reliable as a Party Political Message) so Bear may well take the opportunity to replace the busted "Bread Bin" (aka Dashboard Storage Unit) on the Bearmobile; it's a PITA job cos' you have to real careful not to mark the dash (trim has to be removed to get access to the retaining screws) and then remove a cigarette lighter socket (installed by Bear so the sat nav can be powered neatly) before the bin can come out. Then I have to modify the new bin for the socket before reversing the whole process. Deep joy - with no Easter Egg to scoff at the end 😢 (Have I mentioned that?) RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted April 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 1 Mooring Awl, 4 hours sleep, long awake, 2 hours sleep. Ben the considerate Collie let me sleep in a bit, very soggy out there, drizzling , dull grey welkin, ground soft again. Ben just wandered around , no strong interesting smells with all the rain I suppose. Spent the long awake, thinking ways to reduce mast bend at the gooseneck, I think its still bending too far forward and sideways. but at a most stressed part of the mast I don't want to drill holes for fittings. Boats built with such fittings are quite high performance but most of their ideas are too expensive or otherwise unsuitable for BM. Yep just had the two minute circle of wait again... Need to check what size rivets I have in the boat box in the landrover, this is for the jib club modification, then check I've the correct size drill bits. Time to finish this muggacoffee before setting off. 2
RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted April 1 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 1 I was dealt a heavy blow today, I looked at flights to London in September and saw the usual splendid deal with Vietnam Airlines, S$3700 business class return. Two hours to Ho Chi Minh, very easy transfer (it's a very small international terminal, splendid), their 787's have a very standard herringbone individual seat arrangement, the flight attendants have always been friendly and enthusiastic and food is fine. What's not to like. And they have one of the nicest liveries in the sky to put the icing on the cake. However, they've retimed their Ho Chi Minh - Heathrow flight to depart 07:15hrs meaning the transfer in Ho Chi Minh will be something like 11 hours after the schedule switch. I've had to fall back on my other go to option, Air China, who are also very competitive and very good in the nice seats. As is normal, Singapore Airlines was literally twice the price of Air China (though BA had some fares I was would have gone for if Air China wasn't a Star Alliance carrier). 1 10 1

Popular Post Grizz
Morning All ERers. Happy bank holiday, if you are in the UK and happen to have the day off. A late breakiefast looms this morning, mostly because I had a few last night and I’m still looking for that lost hour from yesterday ….. Quite odd really that when we are back home in DK we can’t easily get bacon, as we would know it in the UK. The local butcher can produce that cut of back bacon that we are so used to, but in DK it is used for a joint of meat called flæskestej. This is amazingly delicious…..it has a thick layer of fat that crisps up to make mouthwatering juicy crackling……………..Mmmmmmmmmmmm……crackling. With thick meat juice gravy and potatoes and red cabbage and green beans. Meanwhile….back to breakiefast or Morgenmad……...bacon, æg og te….and there is just me in the house. bacon….steam / heat blurred the picture. røræg…. og Te….or a cuppa splosh. ….well half a cup. ….Mrs Grizz and a cub have just arrived in the kitchen. Just in time for the mushrooms, tomatoes, black pud and hash browns to come out of the oven and join the main event. Suspect that if I continue to post extremist, provocative, antisocial photos and text like this….im gonna end up on a list….or ten. 😬
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted April 1 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 1 A dull wet start to the day, 6°C and it might get up to 7°C by evening. The rain should stop at teatime to be replaced by fog. I will probably stay at home today. My cleaner has just arrived, I've already done my jobs. Soon the washing machine will need to be set to dry things, at least it works quietly. Then I hope it will turn out to be a quiet day doing enjoyable things. I hope to sort out my plan for the garden which means doing some sketches. I must also sort out what I will need to have someone to do for me while I can't do heavy jobs, fortunately I know someone who does fences and gardens so will ring him one evening later in the week. Last year I had some membrane put under some of the gravel area by the greenhouse, sadly it is not as permeable as I hoped so at least part of it will have to be removed as the water runs off it flooding the greenhouse more than usual. Hopefully more model making will take place as well as finishing another book. David 4

RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted April 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 1 Girding my loins, as the saying goes, for tomorrow when I am due at the hospital by 0730 for my spinal decompression operation. If all goes well I should be pretty much pain free and fairly mobile again after a few weeks’ recovery time. If it doesn’t ….. well, that’s not to be dwelt on. Luckily I am going to about the best orthopaedic hospital in the country and being operated on by one of the best spinal surgeons so I have high hopes. Wish me luck. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted April 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 1 Good morning everyone Boy was I lucky yesterday, we had a full day of sunshine and warm(ish) weather and I spent most of it in the garden. Today, we have rain, although to be honest, it’ stopped a few minutes ago, but it’s still very wet out there, so nowt will get done outside today. So, the plan is to get a few decent lengths of wood that are stored in the underfloor storage area and measure and mark ready for cutting up. These will eventually become the legs and support structure for the layout storage area and helix. Well, bettergetamoveon, back later. RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted April 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 1 Bear here..... Well the job on Mickey the MG went rather more smoothly than expected - even the "dodgy bit" of levering out the air vent grille without bustin' it or marking the dash wasn't too much of a PITA; there were times when A Certain Bear thought he'd missed his true vocation** as I blindly fumbled with one Paw shoved up inside the dash trying to undo the retaining nut that secures the fag lighter socket so I could remove the "Bread Bin" from the dash..... (**Images of Dr. Bear, Gynae crossed my mind.....) Anyway, it's all done now so that's a Huge Tick (and a Jammy Dodger) awarded; the new Bin set Bear back a cool half a Deltic 😭 so I hope it lasts a good while (the bendy sliding lids have a habit of giving up the ghost after a few years). Din Din time is rapidly approaching so that's the next mission - just as soon as I've hoovered the plastic swarf off the floor of the choo choo room after I drilled the new Bin for the fag socket. Bear gone. 19

It sounds like the tomatoes are fresh - not my cuppa tea, but Well Done That Bear if they are fresh. The only thing that is a bit suss are the hash browns. If made from scratch, they are a thing of beauty, if those frozen hockey puck abominations then you’ll be adding, Dextrose (a processed sugar), Disodium Pyrophosphate, Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Bisulfite to your meal. Why anyone would want to add sugar (dextrose) to their spuds is beyond me. Homemade (frozen) hash browns are a doddle and take less time to cook than the hockey puck things* (https://www.thepioneerwoman.com/food-cooking/recipes/a96997/how-to-make-frozen-hash-browns/ or https://www.justapinch.com/recipes/side/side-other-side-dish/how-to-make-your-own-frozen-hash.html). Currently I am eschewing potatoes - needing to slim down a lot and spuds don’t help - but in past I’ve batch-prepped spuds for the freezer. An afternoon in the kitchen with a fistful of recipes and you’ll have high quality frozen hash browns, chips, game chips etc for a couple of weeks. Just as easy to cook as store bought, but without the industrial nasties. * frozen hockey pucks 18-20 minutes in oven (McCain website); ready prepped shredded potatoes 3-4 minutes/side in a frying pan. 7

RMweb Premium Popular Post jjb1970 Posted April 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 1 I have had a lucky run on Yahoo auctions Japan this weekend, getting a pair of factory built and painted HO Chinese models for combined S$800 which is mega bargain for the models concerned. One is a Haidar DF4C diesel (the 'Chinese 47') in orange and the other an N27/Kairyu SS1 electric in two tone green with yellow trim. Both look like new, boxed with accessories, and I find Japanese sellers are generally very honest with listing. Buying new via Aliexpress would probably be S$2000+, splendid result. 15
