RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 30 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 30 (edited) We've got three of those clocks , one I can see here in the living room, one in our bedroom, the third is my boating clock. Which reminds me, after this winters reengineering I've not made a new site for it on Blue Moon. Hmm I don't know what's got into Ben today, but he's just taken me for his longest walk ever.. we got to our normal turning point and he wanted to go.. and on... Then on crossing our muddly lane starting point, he asked to go round again... I refused, I'm knackered . I wondered why the trench digging equipment had been left at the bottom of the field, they've continued on, crossing the bottom muddy lane, split into two, then feeds two fields on the marsh with water. Two troughs have been set up, with heavy ballast hard standing around them. The feet and two sides of the next loom have been cut out, lots of sanding to do yet. My package of pins says 2 stops away. Time to struggle off the sofa.. Edited March 30 by TheQ
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted March 30 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 30 Mr Amazon man has delivered 10,200 pins, they are as described and very similar to the peco blackened pins. But silver. 15 3
RMweb Premium Popular Post jjb1970 Posted March 30 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 30 I heard news that made the heart feel like it had been gripped by an icy claw and made the blood run cold yesterday. The UK permanent representative to IMO has been replaced, the post is being taken away from the MCA (Coastguard Agency, staffed by people with some understanding of and interest in shipping and maritime affairs) and given to DfT. What could possibly go wrong. The general consensus I have heard is that the UK has taken another step down the pecking order as even in maritime affairs DfT has a toxic reputation and it is only havng the MCA between them and the world that keeps things as on track as they are. 4 9

He is, like Lucy and Schotty, getting older and like humans, even if no symptomatology is present, a once yearly MOT is a good idea. Schotty and Lucy have their “well doggie” check ups when they go for their yearly vaccinations. A yearly “well human” MOT after a certain age (50 or 60 - depending upon family history) is an essential part of staying healthy as you get older. By having a “Well human” check up your GP can catch small problems before they become large problems and, as is frequently the case, the small problems can either be made to go away or prevented from becoming big problems by appropriate intervention. Unfortunately, it may be difficult to get a “well human” MOT in the UK (unless you pay for it) - partly because the NHS tends to be reactive as opposed to proactive. 2 2

It does seem that of all the various UK departments of state, the DfT is second only to the DWP for sheer incompetence and an appalling reputation. Regardless of the political arguments around privatisation, a competent DfT would not have allowed the privatised railways to basically self-destruct and leave Britain with the dysfunctional system. It now has. The Japanese managed it with their privatised railway network (privatised before the UK’s). If the Railway Bureau of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in Tokyo could do it, why couldn’t the DfT in Whitehall? 12

RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted March 30 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 30 (edited) The thing nobody can understand about this vegan bak kwa malarkey (other than the basic premise, obviously) is the no soy bit. Not only is soy plant based, soy sauce is a key ingredient. No doubt a clever chemical cocktail is used to replicate bak kwa. RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted March 30 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 30 (edited) I realised that as it is the Saturday Park Run at the beach today there would be no point going there for a walk so I went to the Quayside instead where I had an enjoyable walk watching a few cars drive by and a cormorant trying to catch a fish. On the way home I called at a corner shop for a newspaper and found that since I was last there in February the shop has been refitted so the till is now by the door not at the back which was a shock. Naturally all the stock was in new places to but I eventually found what I wanted. It might have been quicker to have made the slight detour to the Tesco Extra. As I felt tired I just had coffee and looked old photos until lunchtime. After lunch I decided to have rest and lay down for a while. When I came to I looked at the clock and noticed it said 3.30, I'd gone up to my bedroom just after 1. After a few moments I remembered that I was being organised about the clock change this morning and that I had pressed the button on the alarm clock to chnage it from GMT to BST, it was really only 2.30 so I was able to watch both boat races. I've also managed to change the car clock, once I'd found the right menu it was only two button presses to select BST. I'll live with it being about two minutes fast. I've now changed the rest of the clocks as well and will have an early night tonight to make sure I get up in time for church tomorrow. It's been sunny and quite mild all day which has been very pleasant though there is still nearly an inch of water on the greenhouse floor. About every two years I have a "well man" check provided by my surgery, so far the results have shown things work correctly or at least are not getting any worse. I used to love bakkwa when we lived in Singapore but hadn't seen it for donkey's years until we visited a few years ago and I made its acquaintance again. Fortunately it was the real deal rather than the abomination shown above. What on earth is the point of ersatz soy sauce? Dave 9
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted March 30 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 30 Bear here..... Mickey has new brakes (at the front at least) and Bear decided that a Special Beary home-made Pizza was in order. Huge Tick Awarded. I'm gradually working my way thru' the new Top Gun Movie - the flying sequences are outstanding. Mickey's new brakes have been tested and as the Bearmobile didn't end up upside down in a ditch I reckon they're good to go. ION...... A Courier called at Bear Towers and presented me with an unexpected parcel, asking "Is this for you?" Well let's see now...... The Parcel address starts with No.7; the number on the front wall of Bear Towers isn't No. 7..... The road name ends with "Close"; Bear Avenue is, well, an Avenue..... I think he got the message. RMweb Gold Hroth Posted March 30 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 30 I've just been touring all the "real" clocks in the house so they think its BST already. I also popped out to Yeti and ticked the DST box so it'll be ready for tomorrow. All the radio-controlled clocks will position themselves appropriately in the small hours. The only thing left is the clock on the oven, which is so weird that it'll have to wait until I find its instruction book...

The cabbage miasma never quite got as far as our house. I was always fascinated by the Colorado Beetle poster outside the headmaster’s office. Aditi said she used to daydream about what she would buy with the reward if ever she found such a beetle. The posters must have been in every school, just like the cabbage smell. I remember the posters but I never heard of any Colorado beetle infestation. 5

I went looking for it and at one point I thought it wasn't visible on the first three pages. @jjb1970 made posts with lots of Singapore pictures quite recently - so it should have been. RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted March 30 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 30 Bear here..... Top Gun 2 watched - I rather liked it; I wonder if it'll appear in Iranian Cinemas? 🤣 ION..... I decided that changing the vast majority of clocks in Bear Towers this evening was a good plan - so that's now been done; the only ones I haven't done are those that I think may change themselves automatically, as well as the ceiling projection clock above the Bear Pit. Not sure what tomorrow holds in store for A Certain Bear yet - there are several potential missions on the Reminders List to choose from, none of which hold great excitement and a couple of which fall into the right PITA category (although simple enough to do). Alternatively I may just say sodditall and do something totally different instead. Bear gone....
