RMweb Gold Hroth Posted March 7 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 7 The voters in the constituency where I reside always vote for a flower, never for a tree. To show my independence I'll not vote for either, because they're as bad as each other. But by voting for someone else, I'll have proven (in my mind at least) that the eventual outcome IS NOT MY FAULT. All we need do now is wait for the inevitable General Election. Unless Rishi does a Putin and passes a bill maintaining him in power in perpetuity....

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted March 7 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 7 I went to Lidl for the shopping, they had all I needed. On the way I noticed that the 40 limit sign on the roundabout where I turn onto the main road into town has gone. It was there on Monday when I last drove the car. When I got to the next roundabout where the 30 limit sign used to be it had also gone. I began to think that perhaps the speed limit has changed to 30. I came the other way back approaching the main road from the south. The 40 limit sign had gone but there was a new 40 limit sign on the road leading out of town. The traffic was moving at 30mph as well. Back at home I had a look on the council's website, nothing to be seen. I eventually found a copy of the speed limit order and a councillor's comments elsewhere online. The speed limit had been changed from 40 to 30 on 28th February but they had forgotten to remove some of the old speed limit signs. Even where one of the new signs has been put up for 30 the painted number on the road reads 40. I will have to try very hard to remember the new limit. 43 years ago it was 60, about 30 years ago it became 40 so it will be hard to remember. I have to admit that I rarely drive at over 35 on the road because of the traffic and pedestrians. While I was out I visited the beach and had a walk on the prom, the wind was cold so I didn't stay for long. I did notice that someone had parked their car so it was occupying two parking bays, it would have fitted in one. Just before lunch a neighbour called to check I am getting on OK and we had a chat about speed limits. She had only noticed the sign changes today. Since then I've had a rest, read and made a mess of a simple Sudoku - it is always worth checking that I haven't put the same number twice in a line! RMweb Gold Popular Post Hroth Posted March 7 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 7 You're lucky. My council is infected by the 20mpg bug, and signs are spreading like an ugly rash, even on A roads. If they could get away with it, they'd have bylaws that all motor vehicles have to be preceded by a bloke with a red flag. 8 3 4

Of course, the Lycra Loons and Field Ornament riders just ignore all road signs! 3 minutes ago, Winslow Boy said: I wouldn't worry my dear Bear one wouldn't fit on your noggin anyway. I believe you can get "Facinators" with elastic bands to hold them on, which would suit Bear. I would have thought a nailgun would be safe for the habitual wearers of such scraps of Millinery, there's nothing in the head to get damaged... 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted March 7 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 7 Bear here..... Popular Post iL Dottore
Today has been a day of mixed fortunes. On the positive side I picked a couple of fresh cooked lobsters at a gratifyingly low price for tomorrow's Lobster Mac'n'Cheese I' preparing for a pescatarian/vegetarian friend and I purchased at a bargain price some long clamps for the workshop - you can never have enough clamps. On the negative side, poor Schotty got caught short and managed to defecate in the hallway into his basket and - as I found out the hard way - into one of my boots (anyone who dares snigger or raise an eyebrow will face the special personalised attention of Captain Cynical). "Sh1t happens", as they say (quite literally in this case), and I am neither upset nor angry at the poor lad. He is getting old - with all that entails. The only vaguely irritating aspect is that he refuses to void in the garden (for some obscure reason) and then tries desperately to hold it.... The really negative side of today was when I almost become an ex-iD! I was toddling along at the speed limit with about a car's distance between myself and the vehicle in front, when suddenly a white BMW (of course it would be a BMW wouldn't it) swerved from the wrong side of the road where he was overtaking at a high rate of knots - when he realised that the oncoming truck was not going to swerve out of the way - causing me to stand on the brakes. Had the Yeti I was driving had a beard this morning it would have been clean-shaven by this afternoon. Some interesting and emphatic words in 3 major European languages were uttered with some passion and considerable theatrical emphasis. Unfortunately, I was driving Hetty the Yeti instead of Captain Cynical's 1956 Bentley with the behind-the-bumper, fire-and-forget heat-seeking, anti-soft-vehicle micro-missiles, otherwise the white BMW would have been left on the side of the road as a smouldering wreck with a "crispy critter" behind the wheel.... But the Gods, in their infinite wisdom, ensured the white BMW got stuck behind a slow moving delivery lorry in a no overtaking zone with a considerable amount of oncoming traffic to keep the Beemer at crawl, unable to (illegally or legally) overtake. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted March 7 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 7 (edited) Oh yes.... One item that "The Boss" found in a box of donated stuff a while back was a Suffragette Watch - a US one rather than a UK one. They made £580 from that.... edit: One benefit of working in the Hospice Warehouse is I've apparently walked 2.0 miles / 5354 steps today, according to Izzy the iphone.... Proportional representation did the job here last election. A whole swag of Liberals (our Tories) lost safe blue-ribbon seats that had been Liberal since the dawn of time when Independants who leaned to the centre right economically but were sick of the Liberals poor climate policies targeted them . Their votes when combined with the preferences of Labor and the Greens unseated the Libs from nearly all their posh harbour-side seats in Sydney and even the safe-as-houses former Melbourne seat of Kooyong, once held by Robert Menzies, who was our ultimate Tory and was PM for about 100 years. Popular Post Grizz
Good Evening All Well it has been a very enjoyable day. The sun came out for a start. Still prepping for audit this morning , but in between organising loading of materials and even assisting with some minor shunt moves. To top it off this morning number 1 and his mate arrived safely in Rome. Having flown from Luton to Buddapest yesterday morning, then by train to Vienna and finally by sleeper train to Rome. They were interviewed by the BBC again today, (first time was in Marseilles), I listened to him live on radio Sussex. They even got their photos on the BBC News web page in the Sussex region section. Amazing to listen to them on the radio. They went to the Vatican this afternoon and sat relaxing, soaking up the atmos. Sadly they have had a thumping at the hands of Roma, loosing 4-0. Sad to see that a couple of Seagulls fans were stabbed by Ultras last night. Fortunately they weren’t killed. Spent the afternoon with ORR inspectors carrying out site visits. Very enjoyable. Mrs Grizz made a lovely risotto this evening and with number 2 cub in Gotham City for the evening, we had a cosy meal together. Tonight I am quite tired for some reason, so I am relaxing on the bed watching tv, enjoy a dram or four of Bowmore Happy days…. 1
