Funny story that. The prosaic Yorkshireman actually went with "New Wales".

By the time he got home someone presumably pointed out that there already was a "New Wales" (in British Canada, which had even then been divided into New North Wales and New South Wales). At one point parts of it were also called Nova Dania by some latter-day, wiking type - 1619, Jens Munk.

With New England and New Scotland spoken for he dutifully amended it to New South Wales. Why that over New South England or New South Scotland, or even New South York, who knows.

Always worth a repost at times like this!

Of course there is no equivalent to a patron saint of New South Wales. I think St. Don (Bradman) would be a shoe-in.

I'd go Bob Hawke, even though he was born in South Australia. But he was OUR PM too and can you  name any other international leader that has a   world record in fast beer drinking?

Talking about memory lane, I have just found out how many on ER have had a distinctly chequered past.

As CCI GmbH is sponsoring the supergroup Old and Still Nasty world tour, I thought that I (CC) should directly manage things.

So one of the things I had to do is ensure that the profits go into the accounts of the various band members - so I had to get the real names behind the stage names. Imagine my surprise to learn that members of the supergroup are now respectable ER members. So, the Old and Still Nasty line up really is as follows

  • Tom Torpedo of the Boat Strokers (aka @TheQ) on keyboards.
  • Tomboy Harridan of the Pink Polar Bears (aka Polina Bear, cousin of @polybear) on drums.
  • Beezer of the Psychotic Bimbler (aka @PupCam) on rhythm guitar.
  • Screaming Eagle of Afterburner (aka @Dave Hunt) on vocals.
  • Blunt Scalpel of the Döctörs of Destructiön (possibly @iL Dottore?) on lead guitar.

CCI GmbH (entertainment) is still trying to track the artistes (backing singers) known back in the day as Sally Sweethang, Jenny Warbler and Suzee Cremecheez. Any news of their whereabouts would be gratefully received (and amply rewarded).

To raise interest in the supergroup I’ll be sending out  “down memory lane” posters showing the artistes in their youth*, so stay tuned.

CC

* I’m thinking about using the “embarrassing” images of the artistes I have in my archive. Should I do it? Your thoughts?

And leads us not into Trent station...

I've found a couple of poin_s and some trac_ in a box. Also, in the summer house, I've found a piece of boar_ which is just the right length to fit on the back seat of the car.

I'm very tempted...

The '70's in a warmer climate.  I'm pretty sure the bloke on the left is Don Dunstan, Premier  (governor, for our US friends) of South Australia way back then.

Morning folks! Have spent this morning fixing the controls on the cooker hood. It's only a few years old and I'm unimpressed that the plastic structure holding them has broken. Superglue and plasticard to the rescue!

I'm also very thankful for the very helpful comment on my Holcombe thread about how to signal the plan. So much knowledge freely shared. I'll update the plan while drinking my tea next.

I'm hoping to get the DCC-EX command station from Chesterfield Models hooked up to Melcombe Road Sidings today to see how it works. Once that's done I can start converting locos as I have a fair few non-sound decoders acquired during sales.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to pop over to the Redditch exhibition as it's not too far from Worcester. I'm going to attempt to pick up the bullhead rail and points that I need, which does mean that I need to commit to either large or medium points. Large look better, but medium mean that the curve can be a little less tight. Decisions!

Yep……my name is Grizz…and during the early 1970s I owned and wore a Black, Orange and Grey hoop striped, knitted tank top.

There…they say the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.

I will admit to wearing a brown pinstripe flared suit with a mustard yellow shirt but I never owned a tank top.

It is fantastic to see that he hasn’t let this difference in height get him down thought, isn’t it?

Not going by their wedding piccy!

image.png.8a0fa5e32d0dd5a4c94baed0715e7335.png

They say the 70's was the decade that style forgot, but I say that  the 80's was the decade that style got  dragged from its bed,  driven to a lonely bush site, was forced to dig its own grave then got shot a dozen times before being covered in dirt sticks and leaves , then got dug up again  and had petrol poured on it and lit, then the embers got  stamped all over by elephants  before being  flushed down a toilet, then its home was carpet bombed with napalm. And then salted.
