Much depends on one's temperament. Daily weighing can be a good reinforcement while weekly measurement is the way to assess progress. I must disagree, I believe you don’t need to weigh yourself daily, more importantly you need to accurately (and honestly) track what you eat. I cannot stress or emphasise enough the importance of tracking your consumption. Most people (and I once included myself in this category) have absolutely no idea as to how many calories (or grams of fat, protein and carbohydrate) are in what they eat. So, without accurate tracking, you’d end up doing something like having a “light lunch” of a sausage roll, a bag of crisps and a half a pint of beer only to find, when you look up the calorie content of what you ate, that your “light lunch” was the best part of 800 cal. @polybear has already informed us that he’s recently been a “bit naughty” and that’s where the rot begins. If you are serious about loosing and - more importantly - keeping off weight, you really have to say goodbye to your previous lifestyle. Anyone can give up pizza, or mac ‘n’ cheese or fish & chips (or whatever) for a few weeks and lose weight, to keep that weight off, you have to pretty much permanently say goodbye to pizza, or mac ‘n’ cheese or fish & chips. At best they’ll be an occasional treat. If you don’t “keep your eye on the ball” and “keep on the straight and narrow” (to trot out a few clichés) - then you are condemned to regaining the weight you’ve worked so hard to lose. I also step on the scales every day because I like playing with numbers and always have. However I don:t obsess about the numbers but can notice trends. Eg. I came back from our last trip to the UK about 1.5 kgs heavier than when we set off. That:s now gone. Anyway today is a trainspotting day so some mi or duties this morning then off to enjoy the afternoon. Regards to all and Sundry. Jamie
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted March 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 1 Oh yes it is.....🤣 You can tell by the rain and the threat of snow later today. A crummy, drizzly 4c here, with possibility of snaa later, mostly oop high. We 're not high fortunately, nor is the venue for today's old Farts Bike Club brunch. Mrs H came over all impulsive, which is most unusual for her, and decided to change her ride-to-work bike at the drop of a hat. The Honda 500, while perfectly fine and capable in all ways does rather lack soul, and she just hasn't bonded with it over 5 years. So it's going, and it is being replaced by another little Royal Enfield 350, similar to mine but a different version. She doesn't need a big bike for commuting, and she has an 800 BMW for sunny days anyway. Not like her to make a snap decision, but it is her Ruby Wedding Anniversary present. (12th March, since you ask). 18

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted March 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 1 Oh, re weight loss and calorie intake, I strongly recommend Dr Jason Fung's book 'The Obesity Code', which explains how the body reacts to dieting methods. The body adapts to reduced calorie intake and that is why people put weight back on, after losing some by that method. He's not a quack Doctor, and backs up with a lot of research and disproving of previous 'facts' that are the result of flawed studies. I found it interesting how much previously accepted truths are in fact rubbish, but as iD said the other day, science moves on as new discoveries are made. Really, it's worth a punt to read, not expensive, and yes I have lost a lot of weight! I'm in danger of not being obese.....for the first time in three decades. 13 9

Technically if a club is NOT set up as such, all club members at the time of the incident, are held liable for unlimited costs should there be some sort of unfortunate disaster, such as someone sueing the MRC, or your insurance for an accident not being as good as you hoped and as we all know solicitors / lawyers bills can get very expensive. Limited companies are " Limited by Guaranteed" our club is limited by guarantee to £1 which means that is all we each are liable for should the club go bust. 52 minutes ago, Barry O said: set ourselves up as a CIO (Charity incorporated Organisation. We do own our building but that didn't seem to come with any requirement to report anything to HMRC. We have considered both Limited Company and Charitable Incorporated Organisation for the same reasons and in fact a few years ago went to see Paul Jones at Warley who went through all the paperwork etc with us. However disputes between members related to lockdown and reopening the clubroom, plus a lot of insulting comments on social media caused the Chairman and Secretary to resign and leave the club (as did the main complainant). As a result no progress has been made as the main driving forces on the committee are no longer with us. Perhaps it's time to revisit those proposals. . 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted March 1 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 1 (edited) Last Wednesday I met up with an old school friend. I htought that he looked thinner since I last saw him in October last year. He told me that he's been diagnosed as on the bordline type 2 diabetes hence why he had decided to lose weight. Intersting about club disputes relating ot the lockdown. I got to the point of not telling some friends what I was doing or where I was going as they started questioning why I was doing that despite staying within the rules even after they had all been relaxed. Many people interpreted them differently. Its chucking it down here in Surrey. Just hoping that there is a break in the rain so that we can load the layout as I am supposedly meeting up with friends for lunch but I might might have to give that a miss. I have just finished sorting out photos up to end of May 2022 inlcuding our Belgium / Luxembourg trip. The server failed just over a year ago and I had only backed it up to end of 2021, so having to redo all the photos after that. At least they were still saved on the camera and mobile. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted March 1 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 1 Morning all. It is raining here. Our shopping was delivered with waterproof covers on the crates. First time I have seen that in all the time we have had Waitrose deliveries. Shows, I suppose, how rarely it rains here. As I sat up this morning, after a gentle request for tea, I had to deal with a nosebleed. It certainly flowed but not for long. Tony 2
Popular Post Darlington_Shed
For once, I have been an early riser - dragged from slumber at 6am to provide chauffeurage to Heathrow for Mrs Shed who is off on a weekend jaunt to Dublin. Absolutely filthy weather out there. And, of course, had to endure the rush hour on the way home - 20 minutes there, 65 minutes back. Worth a hearty Pah! I think, although brownie points have been earned.

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 1 Mooring Awl, 4.5 hours sleep looooooooong awake 1/2 hours sleep, not enough, even though Ben the good Collie let me sleep in. He's now had patrol and another independent stroll in the garden, not surprising as the weather radar indicates heavy stuff due shortly. It was blue Welkin and no wind when we went out. Can't be a doin with this nu fangled meat eologi cal spring, I'll be a respectin the Astro numical spring, like it ha' bin for the last 2000 year ana bit. Just bin out to the "Little Red Driving Machine" © Gwiwer and programmed in tomorrow's destination Its at a place in East Dereham, where miniature parallel bits of metal are being shown by a group that runs 304mm to the foot parallel bits of metal. The programming is not to get there by the normal route, but if I get diverted by flooding, as even on the main A47 dual carriageway there have some floods. Just checked the flood map, the flood area extends to a much wider area than normal, the route crosses the flood areas 3 times even before I get to Norwich. When I went out there again a gusty wind had arrived and a very light drizzle. Time to go a muddlin upstairs cos it ain't nice out there.
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted March 1 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 1 It was sunny with an almost cloudless sky when I got up, it was 0°C. It is now less cold, cloud is increasing and the wind is about south east. It is supposed to rain this afternoon with snow on high hills. The plan is to go out for a walk this morning and then read and do other sedentary things for the rest of the day, if I can stay awake. Talking of dreams, last night I dreamt I was in a black BMW which didn't quite make it round a sharp bend, ending in a field. We got out unhurt, then the driver and someone else got back in to drive it across the field to a gate. The ground collapsed, the car turned over and they exited through the windows. Then some friends turned up and said they would take us home. Meanwhile in a house which was not mine I was sitting drinking coffee when said friends rang the doorbell and said they had come to take me to see the car accident. Then I woke up. I don't even know anyone who drives a BMW. Yesterday evening I continued watching old films, this time "Lilacs in the Spring" with Errol Flynn and Anna Neagle. You have probably never heard of it, it was a flop - I only have a copy as it came with some others from a charity shop. The songs in it came from various well known shows, including "We'll gather lilacs in the Spring again". That brought back memories of going to see a pantomime at the Theatre Royal in Nottingham when I was less than 10 years old where the same song was used. Douglas Byng played the Dame, my grandparents had known him since they were young so we were all invited to his dressing room afterwards to meet him. From what I know about him now his conversation was very innocent, at least while I was there. I also had another virtual visit to Switzerland, travelling from Schöftland to Menziken via Aarau. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted March 1 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 1 Good morning everyone It’s raining here too, pah. Thankfully it’s not heavy, so I’ll still be able to walk to and from the butchers without getting soaked. After that, Sheila is joining me when I go to the Trafford Centre, which could be expensive. Back later. Brian 11

Last night I was lost in an English city that I should have been familiar with, but suddenly found myself by a narrow gauge railway somewhere in what was probably the Balkans. The motive power was dwarf camels, that actually looked like Shetland ponies. The train took me to somewhere that was either at war or on the brink of war, where I met up with a British spy who thought I was also one. There were heavily armed security men or soldiers, and a scene involving boats in a harbour, following which an armoured train sped past, machine gunning everything in sight, and I woke up. I had had mushrooms for tea, but not that sort. I dunno what you're on - but I want none of it..... I very, very rarely remember dreams even when I've just woke up - the odd snippet very occasionally, but that's it. 6 hours ago, Ozexpatriate said: Flavio, I concur regarding what you say about fluctuations however I remain a fan of daily weighing - with the recommendations in your second paragraph. Incidentally, if I'd not been seduced by that slice of Cuthbert the Caterpillar Cake (the first cake I've had in some weeks) my calorie intake yesterday would've been 1895 (even with a Pizza & 100g of CF's), which is some hundreds short of a normal adult intake; bearing in mind I'd walked several miles yesterday + lots of 'umpin & dumpin' I recon I wasn't too naughty.... 2 hours ago, iL Dottore said: If you don’t “keep your eye on the ball” and “keep on the straight and narrow” (to trot out a few clichés) - then you are condemned to regaining the weight you’ve worked so hard to lose.
