I live in Goathland.........

We've got a bit of a crimewave in this part of the world at the moment..........

It was never like that that when Sergeant Blaketon was in charge.

Morning all.

I'm thanking the stars it is Friday...! It's still pitch dark outside and slightly below freezing, so I guess I decided wisely in purchasing another bottle of de-icing fluid for the car. As we were given another month of time for our teaching practice report, I believe I will focus on doing some preparations for a presentation me and two others will be holding on 14 December in another course. This course is about film adaptations of children's literature by Erich Kästner, which is a rather enjoyable topic to my mind.

Cheers everyone, whatever you're up to...

Morning All,

Another rather chilly morning - but thankfully no fog this morning. Instead, I was treated to around 1°C and light rain. There didn't seem to be any ice about though, although I was prepared for dodgy roads.

As Dominik said, TGIF!

Have a good one everybody...

Hello all.

It isn't cold here but there is some light rain/drizzle. It is forecast to be dry later but probably not when I take Robbie for his walk. He isn't bothered by rain at all.

Nothing too exciting planned for today, unless anyone is excited by vacuuming or vegetable purchasing.

Morning all, still very mild I have just taken the dog outside without putting a jacket on. I too am looking forward to rhe weekend and some quiet times dog walking. That will be after making the garden dog proof of course.

Has the new dog already got a name or do you have to get her used to one of your choosing? Robbie really is enthusiastic about going out. On the way out he still pulls at the lead, but only to get to the next interesting smell. He can be made to walk at heel but I don't bother as following scents seems to be important to him. On the return journey he walks perfectly. Off the lead, away from roads, he is very good. Our back garden is safe for him but even when human error leaves the two gates open (only happened twice) he just sits on the front step.

Good Morning.

Things seemed to have settled down a bit on the InLaw front.

May only be for a short time but any relief is to be welcomed.

MiL suggested I should take a helicopter to Sweden to bring back BiL who was in bed with a cold.

Fortunately he made the booked flight (although thereby giving his cold to a couple of hundred luckless passengers).

I hope all remains calm on the IL front it must be a massive stress. Our new dog is caled Zara not for any other reason than that is the name the RSPCA were using for her. Two nights and no mess so she does look as if she is house trained. BIL and nephew turned up she did not like them at all for about 15 mins it will be a brave chav or an idiot that will confront her.

Morning all! Thanks for the reminder, I need to get winter washer fluid for the car... when I was 8 at school, I took part in a musical production of Kastner's Emil and the Detectives. Fabulous production, some great songs, and I remember it clearly to this day. A good few years later, I discovered my father had a copy of Emil and the Detectives from when he was a child in the late 40s/early 50s.

Our presentation will be about The Animals' Conference, where we'll be covering the original 1969 film. I'm not sure whether you may be aware of it, but while it follows the book very closely and even uses a similar style of imagery as found in the illustrations within the book (the copy I have at least), I have some doubts that younger children may fully comprehend it.

By the time we went out it was sunny. Unlike yesterday when my hip and feet were painful, Robbie got a more substantial walk today. One of my friends has just started a business walking dogs and we accompanied her and her canine clients round the park.

I'm just off to do the first official list item today, shopping. I'm allowed to choose which supermarket to go to, decisions, decisions!

Afternoon All

Been lurking and generally sitting aside, as I have had to take a bit of time out to cool down a bit (or warm up a bit really). My heating went down again on Tuesday, and the boiler people said that as the regular engineer was off sick, they'd get another one to me - is Thursday about 2 any good - well no, but what else could I say? So anyway, I froze and had a cold shower on Wednesday, and we've spent the time huddled round the woodburner - took yesterday off, and the relief engineer was coming from Preston - he had a job beforehand between Preston and Lancaster, and took the M6 to get to us - and promptly got stuck behind a car fire - so arrived at 16.00ish last evening - tested the boiler out, and concluded that this was a plumbing problem, and the loss of pressure was down to a "small leak" somewhere in the pipework - now this was the third visit.so I was getting a bit brassed off when I was told that the plumbing people from the same operator would now take over - so could I please arrange for the flooring to be lifted along the pipe run to allow him free access to try to diagnose. At that point I decided to s*d that for a game of soldiers, called my own builder and he turned out that night, opened up the traps that he had made in the kitchen floor and said that he could see the leak, it wasn't any of the easily accessed couplings but he could see gallons of warm water on the floor. He said he'd be back in the morning, gave us advice on how to get a bath last night and a shower this morning, and though the gurgling of the water draining out of the upstairs radiator was a bit disconcerting, we did know why it was happening, and that it was not a cause for worry nor were any of the odd whistles and bangs from the boiler. He turned up as promised, and fixed things literally within an hour. The moral of the story here is that if you've got a good jobbing general builder, then he is worth his weight in specialists....

Unusual to have a bath under the floorboards but pleased you got it fixed, Stewart.

Must have been uncomfortable in lower temperatures.

Just shows that with all our civilized advances, we're only a leaky pipe away from the primitive.

Evening all!

It's been a busy but productive couple of days, but as Dominik says - boy am I glad it's Friday!

I'm pretty tired but I must find some energy from somewhere as I've got babysitting now...

The weekend will involve me working on my project and revising for that maths exam. Oh the joy!

You said it DD - it worries me how dependent on things we have become, and how miserable we get when just about any of our modern devices, gadgets and gizmos are not working. I really think that in my next house, I will try to have a less boiler dependant hot water source - a back boiler to the stove seems about the most foolproof, and perhaps a standard boiler (not combi) with an immersion heater on the tank, and a back boiler might mean that I am not dependant on one device for too much of life's comforts.

Speaking of heating, I found one of the radiator valves in the living room must have got stuck recently, so this had to be fixed earlier today. Thankfully, all that was required was some juggling of the actuator pin and a drop of oil to get it moving again.

Weather has turned from bad to ugly in the meantime, as we're now having a drizzle on top of the cold. I guess locking up for the night's the best idea under these circumstances!

I had to go out shopping again. I hadn't looked at my email before going out and there was an additional list. We are off to Enfield early tomorrow via Brentwood. I'll occupy myself looking round the shops in Brentwood High St while Aditi spends a couple of hours at the hairdressers. I shan't be visiting the Aston Martin dealer but may have a browse in Waterstones and perhaps a visit to the hi-fi shop, I haven't been in a hi-fi shop for many a year!

Our heating seems to be coming on the evening now so it must be getting colder. Robbie only seems to be shedding black hairs at the moment. If his coat is getting whiter does that foretell a cold winter?

Dog picture should appear here! She is relatively small for an Akita at about 20 inches at the shoulder and 22kg but has a big head and feet.

Thank you for the picture. Are you absolutely sure she isn't going get as big as the paws suggest? Robbie is about 17kg but has been that weight for years now. Robbie is quite difficult to photograph. Although he will sit when instructed, he is totally disobedient when a camera is pointed at him, he just rushes up to look at it, probably the doggy equivalent of "no publicity".

In other news, I've just completed a diorama for yet another well-known celebrity.

That's three this year.

☆☆☆☆ Ddolfelin - Modeller to the Stars! ☆☆☆☆☆

I'm not very good at celebrity recognition, I saw this year's Marks and Spencer TV Christmas ad and didn't know who anyone was.
