monkeysarefun
4 hours ago, DaveF said: Your council take their time. If a bin is missed here for any reason they come and investigate and deal with it the next day, sometimes even the same day. Same here. One day I came home from work to find some tradie truck visiting the neighbours had parked in front of my bin blocking its view from the garbo driver who didn't see it. It was just before 5pm so I called the council and they said to leave it out and they'd get the "remedial" truck (I think thats what she called it!) to it the next day. Apparently they have a garbage truck that spends each day cruising the shire for un-emptied bins. Given that this shire is pretty large but sparsely populated (it is 2555 sqkm with 45,000 people in it, compare this to Luxemburg which is 2586sqkm and has 661,000 inhabitants), that is quite a boutique service to fund for maybe 4 or 5 bins a day.
Popular Post monkeysarefun
Got to sleep in today because it is Australia Day National Arguing About It Day. "It should be a day of mourning and renamed Invasion Day!" some say. "If things had gone a bit different we'd all be talking French now and be really sh!t at cricket so of course we should celebrate!" others say. "We should still have Australia Day but make it a different day that we can all unite to celebrate, such as when the states all federated to form Australia!" some say "But that was on January 1st, which is already a public holiday so we would be ripping ourselves off of a day off, there must be something else to celebrate!" the rest of us say. "How about June 4th, when Warnie bowled the Ball Of The Century to bamboozle Mike Gatting?" some say. "Ball Of The Century Day sounds stupid!" others say. ANd so on and so on.... Personally, given our national pasttime of calling in sick when we feel like a day off I'd rename it "National Chucking A Sickie Day" where we celebrate nothing more than getting a day off at the bosses expense. And the date? May8 is the Aussiest sounding day of the year I reckon. Edited January 25 by monkeysarefun 2 1

Pacific231G
To honour mouse man, haggis for dinner with tatties (not neaps though- I have to draw the line somewhere) with a nice glass (or two) of single malt to help it down. I'm not usually a whisky (or whiskey) drinker but haggis needs it. Bit of a rush though as it needed 45' to boil and I had a Zoom meeting of the photo club at eight. Trouble is, I now have half a haggis that, because it was shop bought not homemade, I'm advised can't be fried up again so it's cold haggis for breakfast or the recycling bin for it tomorrow. It was only £2.50 (Tesco) so chucking it won't be a great loss but I do hate wasting food. Edited January 25 by Pacific231G 10

She also reads a selection of newspapers via the Essex Library online service. This is probably why she doesn’t watch much television . iL Dottore
12 hours ago, DaveF said: ….It is because Northumberland has a relatively small population (the least dense in England) so complicated recycling schemes are far too expensive becasue of the number of refuse wagon trips needed. At least your council seems to have some semblance of common sense. Sheesh, don’t British Councils get it? If you want people to do “X” then you make it easy to do “X” Our local Gemeinde (council) has rubbish collection once a week; the rubbish is mixed (food, etc) and goes into a special yellow bag that you have to buy (I am assuming that the cost of each bag contributes to the cost of collecting and sorting the rubbish); paper is bundled and collected every two weeks (free of charge), garden waste is collected once a week (also free); cardboard is bundled and collected once a month (free); there are collection points for glass (by colour), aluminium and PET plastics scattered around the village (all easily accessible); scrap metal is collected twice a year (but can also be deposited at the recycling centre) and we have a recycling centre open 6 days/week for recycling anything. Most recycling is free, although there is a small charge for certain items that require special handling (like old paint and household chemicals). Unsurprisingly fly-tipping is pretty much unknown. 16

Today is a writinganinterviewwithoutcoffee email regarding cricket, fixing my potato cart, reloading the Beast then.. hey Ho! Hey Ho! It's off to Pontecarlos via the Clubrooms. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 26 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 26 Never had a problem frying up Haggis in the morning, but these days we buy it, cut it into slices and freeze it. Then I fry a bit when required or microwave it in a small amount of water. Mooring Awl, very tight on the moorings again. 4.5 hours solid sleep long awake, 2 hours sleep. It's been blowing a hoolie all night, and is still blowing close to 50mph.. Bin out with Ben, Ben the eyesights not so good these days Collie, he missed a Munjac fairly close to him. He could smell where it had been though.. Blue welkin, except for some rapidly disappearing clouds to the south and east. Howling wind from the north west. I'm most impressed with this phone tablet, which came with keyboard, various leads, psu, and case. All for less than £100. It's as fast as the old Lenovo which was a lot more expensive without keyboard. Haven't transfered the old card data yet, I can't find the adapter, might try putting the card in swmbos tablet and transfer the data with that. Plans for today, Speech writing, If I get that done, muddling, far too windy to be outside.
Popular Post monkeysarefun
Extreme weather antics today. At 6.30AM it felt really sticky and awful when I went outside so I was surprised it was only 20 degrees, but then I noticed the 97% humidity. Around 11 or so a westerly wind hit and although the temperature was by then high 30's the dry desert wind had dropped the humidity to 17 and it felt a lot more comfortable. Around 4 or so a Southerly change arrived, which brings cool moist air from the Pacific ocean and it is now a comparatively chilly 24. Traditionally when I'm stuck inside in the aircon I watch cold things on the telly, usually Scott Of The Antarctic, but I'd watched that only recently when it was 42 outside, so instead I pretended it was last winter and in honour of Australia /Invasion/ whinging about it generally / Day I watched a replay of the 2023 AFL Grand Final. What a game that was, one for the ages. The lead changed 10 times through the match. Name any other sport that has had ANY game change lead that many times, let alone a final.. (perhaps theres some NBA basketball play-off, or maybe a Netball game...? one for ER sports expert @Ozexpatriate to put me right on!) Even though @Gwiwer favourite team Collingwood ended up winning, you'd have to be an actual lemon to be bitter about it. Awesome game, awesome sport - 5 stars! I just noticed these cows across the back paddock. They seem to be watching some kind of presentation or are having a meeting. . Maybe it is a Cowmitteee meeting, lol. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 26 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 26 Good morning all, Not dull here, we have blue sky and sunshine. A dry, bright and breezy day with plenty of wintry sunshine is forecast. 7°C rising to a sweltering 9°C! Nothing exciting on today's agenda so far which TBH is not unusual. A walk is planned after breakfast but after that my day is clear. Have a good one, Bob.

Her command of the language (though not its grammar) is as good as mine so I wondered what she had found. “Abe. A - B - E. Like here where it says Jennifer was abed before anyone else in the house”. RMweb Gold Popular Post PupCam Posted January 26 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 26 Morning All Puppers reporting for duty. Sorry, bit low profile for a bit, nothing sinister in this case just a good deal of unspecified pottering with Junior Puppers. Thanks to Baz and others for the concern but in this case everything is good. Like Baz, I hope the same can be said for the other MIA. I’ve been skimming and rating the occasional post. I was going to quote Flávio’s post but it’s too difficult on my phone. Suffice to say Here! Here! to his statement in bold. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve uttered the same sentiments. These Councils that think the opposite must be right up one end of the intelligence Bell curve. I’ll leave you to work out which end.
