RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 17 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 17 (edited) Ben has been round to the neighbours before... Accompanied... He knows where the sweetie cupboard is. Started modelling upstairs ... Phone call 1, "This your bank security team, £699 from a company abroad has been charged to your card, press 1 to accept, press 2 to talk to our team..". I pressed The Red button. Back up stairs to the muddling, Phone call 2, My doctors your blood tests came back the doctor wishes to put you on Ramipril, do you wish to discuss it with him.." appointment made for tomorrow.. If I do go on it, there's a blood test a month later..to see how it works. Looking it up it's to prevent heart and kidney problems, has a added side effect of lowering blood sugar levels so it's not unusual to give it to diabetics. Took Ben for his long walk, cut short because of top gun going on above, and the field they harvested the sugar beet from is having it's hedges smashed and the field is being 0loughed as well, so it's noisy out there. 3 more Austin K9 lorries have arrive and some milliput. Oh and a new thermostat controller for the MRC. When I've had this muggacoffee I'm off upstairs again... Edited January 17 by TheQ
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted January 17 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 17 One thing I really enjoy about this forum page is the manner in which we share our interests outside of the 'primary hobby', for example (not a comprehensive list!) astronomy, music both played and listened to, motorcycling, many differing and diverse sports so on and so forth. Rarely do I not find any of them interesting in some way, bar kickball, but that's just me. Also the international aspects when members from all sorts of countries drop in giving a different aspect on many things - leaving politics very much out of it - but it is interesting to read a different take on some things. Ooh look, a rant-free post! 14 12 3

Sadly where I moved to a couple of years ago has no clear horizons and there are two bl@@dy high-mounted LED streetlights flooding the front and rear of the property. Good luck with that. My Dell didn’t have an optical drive so,I bought an external Pioneer cd/dvd/bluray/4k external drive, probably from Amazon. I am sure if I had asked Dell if it was compatible they would have of course said yes. Plug it in and it will be recognised. However Microsoft haven’t included the DVD (or Blu-ray) software for a while now. So the drive will be totally compatible for data but not play films on DVD.If your web chat has a record of something like “will I be able to play DVD movies/films and they said yes, you may have a point but if you just asked about “compatibility “ I suspect not. I knew Windows 11 needed extra software for playing my film DVDs and Blu-ray Discs so bought it from Dell at the time of ordering the PC. Gotha, however, has 6 to 12 inches of snow coming up, apparently. That might turn out to be interesting indeed! Hopefully we're soon done with last night's freezing rain. Nasty stuff. 4 hours ago, pH said: A forecast 10 to 20 cm of white stuff is in the process of falling. Drive-shovelling awaits. That's surprising. To your south, we're hoping for a thaw today. Pre-dawn temperatures are right around freezing. My patio claims 33°F and my telephone claims 29°F. An average of around 0°C. Melt is happening (there's plenty of dripping) but the refrozen sleet + frozen rain combination on the pavement now has a thin layer of meltwater on top - making it extra treacherous - with an essentially zero coefficient of friction. Rain and 7°C forecast for the middle of the day. I am looking forward to a return to "normal". Wet and dreary will be welcomed enthusiastically. Our micro-climates always surprise. While the valley saw freezing rain last night parts of the coast (50 miles as the crow flies) saw 10°C. 16 1

I like 5kK colour temperature, but the intensity can be too much. My next door neighbour has a motion-sensitive security light that lights up every time a cat/squirrel etc walks along his fence. The ambient light shines onto my bedroom ceiling and often wakes me up. Edited January 18 by Ozexpatriate 1

Robbie (see avatar photo) was quite good at home but when out had the ability t9 find sources of snacks. He didn’t even have to see them. We did not dare let him off the lead of people were picnicking. We were terribly embarrassed when arriving at a local park, not really the sort of place where people picnic, Robbie just ran from the car park , across an out of use football pitch and leapt over a family having a very traditional picnic , rug, thermos flasks, hamper. As he jumped he had stolen a salmon sandwich as it was in between the woman’s hand and mouth. As I reached them Robbie was sitting finishing the sandwich a few feet away. I immediately apologised, and offered to replace the food. However the woman was most amused. She said they had wanted to give their girls a picnic experience and they were having a memorable one, her husband had been stung by a wasp, they had just had a dog ( a really cute dog, they thought) steal a sandwich. After that I always looked to see if I could see anyone eating before releasing him for a run. Once when Aditi was walking Robbie , he lurched sideways to retrieve a chip someone had dropped. Aditi fell over and broke her arm.

Maybe 10kW arc lamps by how bright they are. After 11 when they go to bed and the street lights are off the sky is quite something here. There are also dedicated 'dark skies' places around the island, but those car parks are can be frequented by young persons taking advantage of that darkness to conduct biology experiments in their cars. 23 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted January 17 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 17 (edited) One of my neighbours at the back has a bright light, their son is disabled and uses a wheelchair and often goes in and out through the back door. I bought bedroom curtains which have a black out lining. I spent some time deicing the car, inside and out ,this morning and then went to the health centre/hospital in town for my blood test. For once I was able to park, after I had managed to get along the drive to the second part of the car park. The drive is two cars wide and has double yellow lines on both sides but everyone parks on the left hand side yellow lines and no one bothers. Surprisingly it works as the drivers are generally very polite. It is on the health trust's land so the lines don't mean much. I checked in on the computer terminal as usual and had just sat down when the nurse called me in, ten minutes early. She even managed to get my blood first time which is quite unusual. The I went to Betty's 100th birthday event. It was on all day so that not too many people would be there at the same time. She had a card from King Charles which pleased her. I had a good chat with her and met several other members of her family and friends - as Mum was her neighbour I usually saw her if she was in her garden so didn't know most of her friends and family. I got back home in nice time to get my lunch, then I lay down as standing in the morning meant that I had some pain. Since then I've done a bit on the model, caught up on e mails and read a magazine. I also cleaned and refilled the bird feeder and had a look at the garden, there are some crocuses in bud and the hellebore will be out soon. Next is my usual tea then TV and reading untiul I am ready for bed. David Edited January 17 by DaveF
Popular Post Ian Abel
HUMP day Yesterday another solid day inside, Whitney coaxed out to do her business but NOT HAPPY! Today will be a repeat, no need to head out and definitely no reason to attempt avoiding frostbite just for the sheer excitement of it 😮 Work heating up (at least here's heat there!!) as we're into year-end and the ominous "auditors" rearing their ugly heads. Always adds to the excitement of year-end/audit reporting. Other than that, staying warm is top priority. Work at the rental property completed, a shower having been installed in the upper level bathroom, all that's left is touch-up paint following the install. Now we just wait for the rental market to pick up post-holidays. Weather another COLD morning prying the newspaper from the frozen path, -17c and sunny, -13c the forecast high. Onward. 22

Popular Post Darlington_Shed
Part of my problem with retirement astronomy/astrophotography is that the retirement plan involved a relocation to somewhere with decent dark skies. Instead, Mrs Shed is still borderline workaholic and we'll be resident in west London for a few years yet. So we have central London skyglow a few miles to the east, Heathrow airport skyglow a few miles to the west, we're right under the Heathrow flightpath, and surrounded by neighbours with security lighting (which, BTW, makes not a jot of difference to your chances of being burgled or having your car nicked). Of course, those things are only a nuisance on the 10 or 12 nights of the year that don't suffer thick cloud cover or some form of precipitation 🙂
