RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted December 7, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 7, 2023 (edited) I will reveal the ramp when it works, V1.0 rarely works. It's being built for the drivers side, rear door, this is because the "little red driving machine" © Gwiwer, has a rear hatch lower edge at the ridiculous height of 33 inches. Whereas the side door bottom edge is at about 12 inches and the seat cushion about 6 inches above that. The problem with that is at the bottom of the doorway it's only 9 inches wide, Ben's likely to dislike a narrow ramp, so I've designed it to fill the triangle between door and car with a tongue entering the car. On the outer edge there's a 5 inch step which Ben cope with on its own, then he'll have 4ft of shallow ramp, which he can stand his entire body on, then there'll be another 5 inch step onto the rear seat . So todays work has been to cut the baseboard, add the step and the underboard reinforcement. As it's screwed and glued, its not going to the car with wet glue so that's the end today.. No doubt at the first fit there will be trimming up to do, then a ridge that hooks the ramp into the car, then the ramp grip ridges cross reinforcement will be fitted before final finishing. Ben took me for his long walk, I let him go a little further this time, though he wanted to go the full route. On the way back though he wasn't as fair ahead as normal and was quite tired. They did, but not without a lot of back and forth. 'Can you go to the branch to ID' stuff - no I'm in hospital in a different country, and it's &^%ing NOT France! Oddly I once had to do a refund thing for having been seen off buying car parts on line, and it was very quick and easy. Go figure, as our transatlantic friends say. Talking of seas - the sky seems to have become one, it's wetter in the air than the sea around here. Boy is it raining and windy. The sea is all frothy, thus not as wet as the air that is fully occupied with raindrops, so it would seem. 3

RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted December 7, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 7, 2023 I can see why it used to be possible to,DiY on a Cortina. Porkscratching
They don't want you to fix anything on a car yourself, they want to simply plug it into a computer at the main dealership, probably change a couple of little wicky wicky 50p made in China "sensor" things and say, "that'll be £1015.85 plus vat please..... 1

Porkscratching
Just had a bit of a ruck with British gas on this kind of thing, their "exciting new online account" malarkey, after a couple of laborious contacts with their outsourced "customer service" droids somewhere in the far flung orient, I managed to get back to a nice bill, sent thru the post, that I can pay with cash at the post office, as I've always done quite satisfactorily. Paid in late, after the due date, purely as they couldn't /wouldn't send the physical bill without a load of nagging from myself. 7

Yup - we recently did the same with IoM Gas, oh sorry they got such a bad reputation they changed their name (like Herpes/Evri) and are now called IoM Energy. The only way to get any sense out of them at all was to go to the Big City and see a real person at the inquiries counter - but they closed that last month to 'improve our service'. Constant bills showing no monthly payments made even though we have proof they were, demands for monies, when £400 in credit, etc. So a paper bill every 2 months, paid slightly late to irritate the computer, at the village Post Office so at least they get something from the transaction. When we call the helpline now we get to speak to a call centre in Scotland, who have no idea about matters Fraggle, and why would they? It's a different country. So about as much use as HSBC's helpline.....oh did I rant, sorry!
iL Dottore
Christmas? Bah, Humbug! Christmas always plays havoc with my waistline, as there are far too many "treats" - both savoury and sweet - to indulge in. Fortunately, I am not a great lover of sweet things but even so, nibbling at all the savoury treats soon puts on the pounds. Having met PB in person, for someone whose diet appears to be entirely comprised of cake, beanz, pizza and fries. I was surprised that he is half the size you'd expect from a Bear on such a high-carb, high-calorie diet has a right to be. I first thought that he must have an overclocked metabolism or summat, then the ominous creakings of a whalebone corset under immense duress became heard and all was made clear.... Well I suppose it's an alternative to giving up the LDC Edited December 7, 2023 by iL Dottore Typo 1 1

Popular Post Peter Kazmierczak
I thought retirement would be a slowing-down of things. But Monday I was in Bristol, Tuesday in Bournemouth, Wednesday in Salisbury and this morning in Poole. It's been raining all day, dark and gloomy. Haven't seen the sun at all... This afternoon I was in school listening to kiddies read. Everyone was wearing Christmas jumpers; I felt very under- dressed.
