RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 5, 2023 Good morning all, Still dark and it's raining. A cloudy, wet and breezy day is forecast. 5°C rising to 7°C. When I had the car serviced and MOTd last week they did a health check first and sent me a video of it up on the hoist (I was amazed how clean the underneath was) which showed things like tyre tread depth and mentioned brake disc wear along with various other things. It was then serviced and finally tested. They also washed and vacuumed it. Looked like new when I got it back. As far as wills etc we have LPAs in place for each other and the offspring are also "attorneys" and executors. Once we're both gone the estate will be divided equally between them after a small percentage is shared by the three grandchildren. All of them have stated quite categorically that they don't expect a thing and that if we blow the lot that's all right with them. We don't intend to do that and want to leave them something. As far as the railway collection goes it is listed and I've advised Steve that the easiest thing to do would be to contact one of the specialist auction houses. He did say (with a grin) "You never know, we might want to keep it for ourselves!" (They've all contributed to it over the years) This morning there will be some baking done by both of us as The Boss has invited a couple of her friends and hubbies to afternoon tea. Timetoetc. Have a good one, Bob.
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 5, 2023 Mooring Awl 3.5 hours sleep, 3 hours awake, a few bits of dozing. Not good. Ben had happily wandered from his bed to the cold floor during the night , but then couldn't get up on the hard floor, so I had to help him. He was then happy enough wandering around the garden. On coming in he decided to flop down on the cold floor again!... As for the "little red driving machine" © Gwiwer it's due its MOT shortly, little things have made me suspect it's not been serviced by a expert garage in a few years, so I think a few things might occur. Time I moved I need breakfast before heading to the museum.
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 5, 2023 A dry morning, the rain must have stopped before 07.00 when I got up, there was only 25mm in the rain gauge so nothing exceptional here. It is still cool, 4C and from time to time a tiny piece of blue appears the sky before clouds close in again. I had quite a good night's sleep, when I woke to go to the loo I clearly remembered a dream I was having but this morning I have no idea what it was about. Breakfast has been eaten, yesterday's washing is put away having been left to air overnight and the groceries have come. So now I can do what I like. I do have to go to a shop to buy a bag to put a bottle in for the podiatrist's Christmas gift and while I am out I will probably go and have a look at the Christmas tree festival at church. There are also some fishing boats at the Quayside so I may go and have a look at those as well. Fortunately the shops, church and Quayside are all within a few minutes walk of each other. After that I may do some model things, I would also like to try to make space on a bookself for a set of of Midland Record I have decided to keep for reference. It is too wet to plant the raspberries, they will have wait a day or two. This morning the water pressure here is lower than usual so I have filled a couple of buckets and a jug just in case it goes off later. It took all of a minute to fill a bucket, usually it takes about 20 seconds. Very often when the pressure is normal if I turn on the bathroom tap too much the water simply goes across the wash basin, up the side and ends up on the floor. I've just looked at Northumbrian Water's web site - there are roadworks on the other end of my road, that may explain it. P.S. The rain has just started again, hopefully it will be a passing shower. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 5, 2023 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Up well late this morning, 08:30. Usually bladder control gives the alarm an hour earlier but now they're falling down on the job. That means I missed out on the weather news, not serious as I will not be venturing out today. I notice however that the BBC 24hour news has taken over BBC2. 16 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post RobAllen Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 5, 2023 Morning all. Spent yesterday revising the track plan for Holcombe after printing at 1:1 and putting on baseboard. Today, it's my wife's grandmother's funeral. She made it to 103 and was in good shape, with an alert mind right up to the end, which is pretty much ideal. Born in 1920 and using Zoom in 2023. That's a lot of technological change over a life time! 1 2
RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 5, 2023 Had lunch in an odd restaurant today, the Chinese EV manufacturer BYD have teamed up with a local restaurant to open a BYD themed restaurant. A rather odd idea, eating in somewhere that feels like a car showroom without the cars but the food was actually very good. I had hainanese curry which was excellent. That said one of the young ladies in our team (it was an office trip out for lunch) ordered pork belly, the waited suggested the portion was very small and I suggested that if a waiter warns you the portion size is small you might want to thinkk about ordering a complementary dish but she assured me it would be fine. She got two slices of not especially generous pork belly, oh dear...... Weirdly the curry was very generous.
RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 5, 2023 I'm working on episode 5 of the JJB Report, this one exposes a new religious cult, headed by a mysterious figure known only as Sam, a mystic shamen whose followers believe was placed on earth to preach redemption through running model trains on the carpet, wearing slippers and complaining about models which cost more than 47 pence. Believers have a fanatical devotion to this alleged prophet, believing that a single touch of the sacred carpet slippers can cure cancer. Things turn more sinister when I uncover a competing cult of fanatical anti-samites who see Sam as Satan's representative on earth who must be burnt at the stake for giving a mildly critical review of the Rapido pannier tank model. I interview the Superme Leader of Iran Ali Khameini who expresses his great sadness at Britain falling prey to such extremism and offers to send a force of revolutionary guards to bring us some democracy. More positively I find that the new KR models Big Bertha is a most excellent model of a Ford Transit van. Compelling viewing I think you'll all agree. 1 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 5, 2023 Bobby has been busy baking with The Boss. She's made sausage rolls, mince pies and scones while my small contribution was some Bakewell tarts. I made a dozen normal size but had some pastry and filling left over so I then made a couple of Bob-sized ones which will be put to one side. Yep, I know, greedy sod! 21

Reminds me of a story the late Wally Watson (Plymouth) told in the 1960s when he was in the parts department of a Ford dealership Woman comes in and wanted parts for a Ford van Questioning ensues as to model ("It was a Ford") Questioning continues as to model ("It was a blue Ford") This apparently goes on for some time until it transpires - it was a BEDford. 1 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 5, 2023 (edited) Saw a lot of ford transits this morning ,, no less than 7, between here and the main road. They all seem to be marked up as building contractors for various companies.. there's an out break of house extensions I think... Which can be painful. No physical, work to do for me at the museum , the tame decorators are working one side of the room and the game electrician on the other., So muddling instead, a full 3 hours working on a Type 84 radar at 1:1000 scale. First it's supports were sanded filed and cut to as thin as I dare., then the bottom deck was added and the rotating cabin installed on that. In real life it's hanging from above, but a six inch gap, between it and the deck in 1:1000, is not worth worrying about. Then the top deck was added, which reinforces the entire assembly, so allowing more slimming down of decks and supports. On top of that the the radar antenna mounting assembly, 4 arms which come out from the central cylinder narrowing, both vertically and horizontally towards the out side. I need to make the 4 drive motor boxes which sit above those arms. Once that was glued on there was more sanding etc.. Then the antenna itself was built up. I'd previously made the core but I glued a layer of 1mm plasticard on all sides then filed to shape. To that was added the arms which will hold the waveguide assemblies. The two pieces were then given a green undercoat which of course reveals a multitude of sins to be corrected next week. the actual radar it's a model of, note person stood on arm to show you the size, theres another 10ft below hidden by the grass bank. When I arrived home , Ben was being restrained by SWMBO from attempting to run out to see me. As he's unsteady on his feet. Since I've been back he's wandered around several times helped by a redistribution of mats and carpets.. He's now snoring in the doorway so I can't escape without him knowing. I've completed this month's MRC accounts, except for the tea bar which I'll cash up tonight. Now having only had 3.5 hours sleep and some minor dozing. I'm going to join Ben. In snoring,. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 5, 2023 (edited) It's only 2.5MW,. It's big brother the T85, could do 60MW.. Ps the actual reflector is the same size. PPS, the Type 85 , antenna assembly complete with it's Cossor SSR 750 on its nose will be the next radar to model. PPPS, the wooden fence round the edge of the R12 building top floor is about 1.3mm high in 1:1000, scale, any ideas on how to model that? RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 5, 2023 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. A bit damp and dull outside so doing anything outside is a no-no. I've got to work out the logistics re. putting the new rollalong into the car there's a few things to sort out. The new one sits happily on its wheels so its easy to move around even when folded. The old one if you try to stand on its wheels when folded will just fall over and there's nowhere indoors that it can be safely stored until I can get rid of it (sell or even give it away). I've also got the box that the new one came in which I will keep until I'm satisfied that all is OK with it (they advised keeping it in case the rollator has to be returned).
