Good morning from the Distant (Signal) West where Dawn has broken (careless girl) revealing clear skies and the prospect of a fine sunny day. 
 

The temperature is another matter. The thermometer has dropped to Figaro the figure 0 and it’s still nice and invitingly warm in bed. 
 

Tonight we light the first winter fire. And discover how (or otherwise) well our wood-burner works.  The plan is to sit around the fire after dark with suitably alcoholic refreshments and tell stories. 
 

Or we might just doze off on the sofa. 
 

Avagoodun. Stay safe and warm.

Mooring Awl,

2.5 hours sleep, short awake, 4 hours sleep with wake up and turn overs.

 

On the fence of one of the primary schools I used to pass on the way to work was a big sign...

" Greet your child with a smile not a phone"

 

Ben the I want out Collie was early again, but only needed to be told once to go back to bed, but he got up rapidly once I moved.

He enjoyed his patrol woofing twice to chase pigeons off his garden.

 

Dull grey outside, but no frost , a gentle easterly. Looking at the webcams, there is serious frost not far inland. Also the water levels are not near their peak.

 

Big bits on the local news about the flooding not going away, a combination of spring tides and northerly winds is keeping the tides up. 

 

Plans for today,

Ben has another visit tonight Vets today, which disrupts planning. Not enough time before  going to do anything serious, but it takes a big chunk out of the day.

SWMBO is just preparing a light snack for Ben containing his pills.

Er wait till 

Time to go to the vets.

It was noted in the Property Condition Report we had done before purchase that it had been swept "within the past year".  We also have a CO alarm in the room in case the products of combustion don't draw up the flue as they should.  

 

In other news Friend (Thanet) checked in from the school run to say she - well her future hubby as the driver - had a minor accident making contact with the car in front.  No injuries but a few scratched and dented panels apparently.  They are blaming it on the other driver for "stopping suddenly where she shouldn't have"; the other driver blamed a hail storm for obscuring her vision so she stopped.  Hitting the vehicle ahead is always the fault of the aggressor behind; the requirement is to maintain a safe distance at all times and be able to stop ...... 

 

The clip Friend sent of the hail was quite dramatic however.

That's where I got the initial heads up about this in September - my GP's kids are in classes that are affected.  She said that the teachers are quite stressed having to deal with it to the detriment of other pupils.

A friend of one of my relatives decided that they would have a wood fire, or rather his wife did. Anyway to save some funds they didn't get the chimney lined. All was well until the friend sat in the pub with relative got a call from Swmbo to say that the fire was on fire and the chimney was getting a 'tad' warm and could he come home and do something about it. Friend said ring the Fire brigade and that he would be back shortly. Another call was then received saying it had got worse. Anyway he got home to be greeted by the FB and chimney being dosed with water and room in chaos as the FB don't have time to be 'nice' when on a job.

 

Moral of the tale don't let Swmbo talk you into doing something without first making sure you have enough deltics to get it done properly.

That’s actually a tower with about 25 floors of apartments on top of a couple of floors of commercial space, across a street from the building site. That block of the street is now closed to all traffic (not surprisingly!). And yes, people living there must be somewhat uneasy!
