The problem with trams is that they have to run through streets clogged with pedestrians, horses and carts and "early" motor vehicles, plus detailed townscapes.  Unless you go for a depot scene, rather like a BLT.

Railways are straightfoward (even in P4 or similar) by comparison!

My next unit of unmentionables includes a tram, I was going to let it run on the main track, but decided to have a separate tram shuttle run automatically, it therefore requires less overhead wires and it will provide separate interest while I'm running other things.

I have often wondered why trams aren't a more popular subject, lots of interesting vehicles and great layout potential. There are a few available RTR or in die-cast/plastic display with potential to be motorised. Kato make a very good track system as part of their Unitrack range though the tram track can be quite pricey.

Some of the tramlines of the northern   and Eastern Suburbs of Sydney have some great scenic potential, some parts were like a country branchline.

Do I go to the Co-op now - and risk stuff not being on the shelves cos' the delivery hasn't arrived yet, or later when Alexa says it's gonna rain?  Decision, decisions......

At least the washing's on the go, so that's a diddy Tick

Right, Templot.....

There are very few small estate cars anymore, estate cars seem to be based on Volvo sized things. Whereas years ago all sizes of all makes of car had an estate in their range.

Agreed. Mrs B goes to a cake decorating group and has a huge toolbox on wheels that's bigger than any toolbox I have in the garage. Problem is that it's getting too heavy for her to lift in and out of the car (VW Polo) but we haven't found another small car with a low boot opening - they all seem to have the opening well above the bumper and as she's vertically challenged, lifting the box that high to then lower it into the back is getting too much.

Last week I bought her this stackable system by DeWalt from Screwfix - at £79.99 it's a lot cheaper than changing the car. She can then take the separate boxes into the church hall one at a time or leave them in the car until needed.

Looks like UK Metro tram systems ('tho prettier) that venture to the suburbs and outlying towns often along Beechinged former railway lines.  Compared with yours, the modern Metro "trams" look more like trains.  I suppose they called them trams so they could get permission to run along city streets....

Pouring down here, rain beating on the window panes, looking very bleak....  Tomorrow is supposed to be Sunny, with a high of 5 deg C. If you believe the BBC Weather app, that is...

It is raining here. We aren’t going the Co-op anyway. Perhaps you could save time by asking Alexa to generate a track plan for you.

Could be fun to get one of those graphic AIs to generate some track plans!

A lot of modern cars have a very deep drop down over the sill, even if they have a split level adjustable floor it can be quite deep with the floor at the high level. Some MPVs did it much better than cars, maybe because the design brief placed much more emphasis on being user friendly they often did have a sensible boot lip and a slide in/out floor. On adjustable floors,Golf claimed that, but there was no lower fixed floor meaning you couldn't use the adjustable divider to create a separate compartment like on some models. Which to me made it pointless really. The spare wheel and battery were below the floor piece.

I have had estates for a long time, Escort, Astra, Focus, Vectra and now Insignia, all for (initially) towing the trailer for camping and then caravan. The latest insignia is the Sport model, an excuse for an estate, but adequate for my needs. It is noticeably lower in opening than even the Escort, but is long enough for what I need.

If I wanted a big estate again (I don't) I'd probably have to think Volvo or Merc. None of the SUVs have the load capacity unless you want to maximise size and forego any sort of affordability of fuel consumption. With just me the Insigna can take stuff 10ft or so long as I collapse the front seat.

These were the Sydney tram network that was torn down Beeching-style in the 1960's in order to replace them with buses.

Modern trams are re-appearing in certain areas once more, most notably Circular Quay to the Eastern Suburbs. They too look like trams you see everywhere these days.

I have load capacity, though fuel economy probably not so much.

Some of the routes on the Glasgow Corporation system got pretty rural:
