By persuading iL Dottore to have pizza and chips by saying "my treat". Poor old @polybear little realised that @iL Dottore would drag him to Salt Bae's Pizza Parlour and Kebab Shop, order The King's Surf and Turf Pizza (Wagyu Beef, Venison, Pheasant & Lobster), snaffle a bowl of truffle fries "for Lucy and Schotty under the table", empty 6 bottles of Pétrus and then cheerfully say "thanks for the pizza" before disappearing into the night with Lucy and Schotty in tow...

Good evening everyone 

 

Well we’ve had a very productive day, a kitchen that we both agreed on has been chosen, but not yet ordered. The next stage will be to sort out the paint colour required for the walls and ceiling etc and then some new flooring. Something to do over the next couple of weeks or so. 

 

PB @polybear  thanks for the info regarding kitchen cabinets, I’ve looked at them but I couldn’t get enough cupboards of the right size to fill in the spaces, resulting in a lot of ‘dead’ space. So we’ve ended up going for flat pack units from the big Swedish company. Our current kitchen (and also the workshop cupboards) are by them and they are very good quality and getting spares (if required) is very straightforward.

With the beat box set to 36 beats per minute,* it was "Woah! Slow Down!"  So, I did, to a more controllable 30bpm - and that is still faster than I normally play. Without the ornamental notes the speed is fine, but keeping up with quick speed fingering is a bit of a struggle in quite a few places. And I only tackled the first two lines. At least I know what I will be doing in the morning!

There's a restaurant here on the top floor of the Capitagarden tower (floor 40), overlooking Marina Bay. It's very popular as the views are stunning (assuming it isn't bucketing down) and service is excellent, but food is mediocre. I have been taken there a couple of times by Japanese clients (despite suggesting there were other options) and while the views are lovely I'd rather eat well. It's a Mediterranean grill, last time I went I had falafel as a starter and steak tatare (OK, that's not grilled but it was the main course that most appealed as I do like steak tatare). The falafel was hard, I like falafel to be crispy but there's a difference between the outside being crispy and being like cement. Not only was the beef bland, it committed the cardinal sin (for me) of having been minced. I may be a bit of an extremist on this one but steak tartare should be very finely chopped, not shoved in a mincing machine. Admittedly it's a dish that tests cooks, because of the simplicity there's nowhere to hide so it needs good beef and to be well prepared, done well it is divine, done by Artemis in Singapore it is carp. I'd avoid, go to a hawker center and then take the lift to the top of any of the high towers to enjoy the views instead.

Some years back a falafel place opened near my employer's location in the East Bay of Northern California. It seemed like it was a franchised chain operation. I think you could have played golf with the falafels. They were not good.

 

Locally there are two different owner operated falafel/gyro places within a short drive. They are both quite good.

Good morning all,

Still darkish outside but dry at the moment although according to my apps it should be raining.  Heavy downpours forecast.   5°C and only rising to 8°C.

First bin lorry of the day has just been and it's also Sainsburyday. They haven't got a couple of things "we" need so a shopping trip will have to be made after breakfast.

That seems to sum up the excitement here in The Land of Sutt for today.

A quick look at just one of the designs shows base units available in 300, 400, 450, 500, 600, 800, 900, 1000 & 1200mm widths.

I suspect you already know, but one thing to bear in mind with Ikea Kitchen units is they have no service void** (= a space at the back of the base units behind the rear panel to accommodate plumbing pipes etc.), meaning the pipework has to run below the units or the cabinets have to be cut to suit or spaced away from the wall if there's pipework present.  Not a huge problem for water & gas pipes, but can be a big problem for drainage pipes as they tend to be much larger.

 

** It does mean there's more storage space for things like unbuilt muddle loco kits though - ask a Bear how he knows.....😉

I decided/realised that the plan I've been working on was "too much" - loadsa parallel nickel silver but with buggerallroom for much else.  So now I'm on to idea #257......

Ey up!

 

Thawing out after my day with a bunch of great operators at a location oop North !

 

Miniature representations of items on nickel silver were run, tea was drunk and various cakes, doughnuts, mince pies etc eaten. Bacon sarnies for lunch.. excellent!  @polybear layout plan is Hills of the North on rmweb.. a proper layoutwith lots of drawn nickel silver and odd bits of scenery...

 

had a great time as some of the real experts in the field were present ..and then there was me.. 

 

off to moreasons this morning as her indoors is back to volunteering at the Sue Ryder warehouse.

 

time for me to drink my tea and get ready to face my fellow shoppers at moreasobs.

Morning, from a still but dull rock, 6c which is a little less than I would like.  Dry is good though.

 

Agenda for the day not set, but more time in truss-land is predicted, trying to reduce the amount of crepe up there - but opinion of what is crepe is divided.

 

As for recovering the gold from digested meals - that's where the saying 'going through the motions' comes from.  Eeeuww.

It is rather cloudy here. Amazed that solar panels are producing anything, just 7watts at the moment. Our gas and electricity supplier’s billing system seems to have learned that we only buy electricity in the winter and has reduced our monthly direct debit by £90.

Relative of mine has panels fitted and I'm seriously considering getting some as well, once I've finished sorting out my finances. The relative is with a supplier - OVO/Octopus? who offers a reduced rate at night. He uses this to top up his batteries and his EV so that he has enough power to not use his 'mains' doing the day. I can't understand why more people aren't doing this rather than opting for an air source pump.

Good moaning.  It's cloudy here and windy but not actually raining.  Time was spent winterising the garden yesterday.  Beth has weeded the raised beds and covered them with cardboard, apart from where the onions have been p, anted.  I spent time dismantling and cleaning the drip feed irrigation system.  Those bits are all put away.  The submersible pumps are now inside. 

 

A pleasant hour was spent soldering little strips of phosper bronze and wire to an item to enable electric key tbe picked up.

 

Today it's time for a tip run so this morning is loading up time then off the tip this afternoon.

4 hours sleep,  2 hours sleep, you're to early Ben, half hours sleep.

 

Right fore and aft paws stiff and slightly painful, have a headache,  have slight sniffles, feel very cold.

Not good.

 

Ben the happy Collie had a good patrol, a woof at pigeons, and a good snuffle round the garden.

No wind!! No dew, ground soft. Grey skies.

 

Had breakfast now wrapped up on the sofa...

 

Plans for today,

It's confirmed the pension has accepted the photo at the third attempt, they've now sent a link to set up an account. So that will be the battle for today.

If I feel better , some driveway digging will occur, 

If not the rest of the day will be spent muddling, especially looking at resin casting more Crossleys.

 

Time for muggacoffee number 2.
