RMweb Premium polybear Posted November 15, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 15, 2023 (edited) Bear here.... Lenny the Laptop decided to start misbehaving so I decided a restart was in order, at which point it decided that a Windows update was required. So that was Bear's cue to go and pick up some leaves.....that's a Tick. Then it was all the fun of reading the G & E Meters; now Bear has been using a couple of Radiators (in the muddlin' room when I'm playing, then a couple of hours or so driving the Bear Pit Radiator so Bear is all snugglywuggly for snoozybearland). On top of that I've also been giving the gas fire a go as well in the evenings. And the conclusion? Well after reading the meters and comparing the usage with last month I reckon the next bill could be interesting...... Apart from that it's been Templot Time again..... monkeysarefun
Manufactured stone benchtops haves been Identified as a cause of silicosis that is affecting many tradies here. Bunnings, our major hardware chain, has announced they will no longer sell engineered stone benchtops, pre-empting a national ban due to come into effect in 2025. Ikea have also joined in by announcing they will no longer sell them. Weirdly from what I've read online it only seems to be Australia and NZ where this is an issue. Are manufactured benchtops not a thing anywhere else? And if they are - are other countries tradies somehow unaffected? https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/nov/15/ikea-engineered-stone-sales-silicosis-ban-bunnings Weird. Caesarstone etc.is certainly available in the UK. When Bear's Granite worktops were fitted they had to cut out the tabs holding the pieces of Granite that were to be removed for the sink and Hob; this had to be done in the Kitchen and not outside cos' the worktop may well crack if lifted afterwards. Dust? Oh yes, and some. Fancy dust extraction? A hoover. Tool used? An angle grinder with a stone cutting disk. Did they wear dust masks? Dunno - I shut them in and sealed the doorway. Knowing what builder types are like in the UK I very much suspect not. Edited November 15, 2023 by polybear 10

Actual granite and marble isn't a problem, its hte manufactured versions like Caeserstone which have excessive silica that are the health hazard. Here its being treated as being as dangerous as asbestos. Edited November 15, 2023 by monkeysarefun 1 1 17 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted November 15, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 15, 2023 Afternoon Awl, Having to duck here, there are a couple of jets up there flying, I suspect, " a bit low" Three barrow loads moved before the freezing hoolie got too much and Ben and me retired to the house. Then I fought with computers again. The printer decided it would print, scan and copy, but not send the scan to the computer. It took a complete reload of the printer software to make it work, which now means I have to defeat HPs " instant ink" reordering system again. During this of course MS decided to do an update. I took Ben for his long walk, which he decided to cut very short, no particular reason why. Some muddling then took place, mostly creating more snow, though I destructed a distillery to rearrange it's layout. Still having a thunk on the finer details of this unit of unmentionables mostly on the need of access to a otherwise hidden section.
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted November 15, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 15, 2023 Three parcels just delivered, would have been nice it they'd shut the door of the post box after. Crossley GS lorry kit, a jeep, a Bedford QLT with Bedford QLD lorries kit. That's 7 of the 27 vehicle convoy obtained, though I'm not entirely sure of each design of vehicle. Will Investigate the Crossley carefully as they are not made anymore and I need at least 3 more.
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted November 15, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 15, 2023 Another day has passed (at least the daylight bit has). I had a walk along the clifftop path a few miles south of here, there were more signs than usual warning walkers to keep to the path and not go near the cliff edge though in places the path is all of 2 feet from the cliff edge. On the headland where the path goes a little way inland there was evidence of recent rock falls, you could see them from the path, I don't "do" cliff edges any more. The caravan site just inland of the path is closed for the winter now. I was home in time for coffee when the showers started - in fact while I was out it became too dull for photos. I sat and read for a while and then cooked some salmon for lunch. It has rained on and off ever since. Afterwards I suddenly felt tired, my nose streamed and my sinuses went down to their normal size. I think it is a side effect though I suppose it could be a cold. I have used "E Consult" so expect a reply from the surgery tomorrow - it is not bad enough to ring tomorrow to get an appointment. Paracetamol and many tissues have coped today. Later on I shall read for a while and then watch a bit of TV, I think I'll have an early night. I am trying to wean myself off "having a quick look at RMWeb etc" after TV/reading just before bedtime as it can easily become well over 30 minutes and then I don't go to sleep quickly. RMweb Premium southern42 Posted November 15, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 15, 2023 ' evening all from red dragon land. Jobs done, toot on the flute done. Dinner to do. The most painful is keeping an eye on the magma situation in Iceland. Having enjoyed the opportunity to see and better understand volcanic activity for the past three years, albeit only via online videos, I can now only think about those who have had to evacuate their homes and places of work, and all those on emergency standby or assessing the situation. Nowt on TV that I want to watch, tonight, so I might have another toot on the flute and maybe get my beat box out gain. I would like to get that going with the current song before going onto the second half. Up until now, I have occasionally used online videos but I have more control over the speed on the beat box. So, that is a must, then! Time to geronwivit. Take care. Be good. Help your wishes come true. Polly

Even printing had to use a different typeface for bold. Age, though, sometimes is a right bu99er. 3 9

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted November 15, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 15, 2023 Evening all, A busy-ish day today with intervals of Notter Lott. The Little Red Driving Box passed its MoT without batting an eyelid. It also passed its service with nothing more than a brake-light bulb replacement (for which I wasn't charged) and drives a whole lot better than it did yesterday. It only needed a good service but was starting to feel a little tired. I presented the car as booked at 8.20 for 8.30 and was advised it would be ready by 3. I was hoping for earlier and mentioned this fact but the very welcoming chap at Halfords mentioned that he only had three staff out of seven on duty (including himself) so there were no promises. I walked back into town and enjoyed a muggertea and bacon sandwich in the "greasy spoon" caff opposite the station. I then decided to fill in some time with a ride on one of the very few bus routes in Cornwall never to have previously received my attention. The "back way" to Hayle by way of various housing estates and doctor's surgeries, plus several miles of single-track lane, took an hour. It passed the Old Barn which I owned around 25 years ago and which looks much better (externally at least) for having had its windows replaced and some TLC expended upon it which I could never have afforded. I then waited for the main-road bus back to Penzance. And waited. And waited. It's supposed to come along every half hour with a variation that heads off to St. Ives on the opposite quarter-hours. No 11.00 bus. No 11.15 bus to St. Ives either. Finally the 11.30 turned up at 11.45 and, as I wasn't pressed for time, that was good enough on this occasion. But I wondered where the other two had got to. After a quick coffee I received a phone call advising that the car was ready and could be collected at 1pm. Great. I duly collected it and headed off to an appointment originally made for 12 to collect some dining chairs from a location more or less where Carn Brea station used to be many years ago. And then it was on to MRC for the afternoon by way of Brea Tunnel and a reminder that I used to drive buses through this rat-hole beneath the railway. Narrow, not straight and with very restricted visibility at both ends. Not a place to be forced to reverse! And so to the evening. I collected a kebab from Penzance on the way back and found it was still perfectly warm enough over 20 minutes later at the Distant (Signal) West and after I had unloaded chairs and other bits and bobs from the car. Waiting on the doorstep was a package containing a new pair of hiking boots. I shall have to make good use of those over the next few days. Tomorrow's deliveries include C*******s pasties (three turkey, three sausage and stuffing) plus a small green object in an Acc*******e box. Oh, and Dr. SWMBO returns from her week in London. I must not forget to collect her at 22.29 and must therefore not imbibe as I might wish to over dinner!
