RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted November 14, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 14, 2023 Evenin' each. A bit of a traumatic day for me and I think I might need some counselling. Started off OK as the pharmacy found my prescription and I walked round there to collect it so that was OK. It then went downhill. We went out. Shopping. For furniture. Sofa and armchair(s). Six emporiums were visited ( I think it was six, I started losing the will to live after the third) and we eventually ended up back in the first one. We saw and sat on a lot of rubbish on our travels and met some disinterested and some pushy salespeople apart from the very first guy we saw who got it just right with his attitude and professionalism. Found something we both liked within our budget although it was near the top end. Decided on just a 3 seater sofa although you could possibly fit four on it and only one armchair which is more than enough for our needs these days. Ended up spending double figures of Deltics. They're hoping to deliver before Christmas but can't guarantee it but we're prepared to wait as we didn't like any of the stuff available for immediate delivery. Managed to get saturated in a couple of car parks before I remembered the brolly in the car boot. I almost had my front wing taken off by some 90ish year old old dear who cut right across my bows in one of the car parks. I managed to get in reverse and out of her way just in time. I don't think that the silly old bat could see me as she was peering through her steering wheel, not over it. It even caused The Boss to utter a mild curse and she never swears. Nor did she reprimand me for what I said so for once she must have felt I was quite justified. I'm feeling a bit better now after a healing bottle of Tribute and a very tasty cottage pie. I might even have a medicinal Penderyn or even cognac later. Before that I think I'll go and sit in a darkened room for a little while.🙃 3

RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted November 14, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 14, 2023 Bear here.... Today's fun has comprised of Templot (still putting up a very, very good fight), a recce to the Co-op and the bottle bank. What fun. I also remembered I still haven't had the results of my chest x-ray from a few weeks ago (presumably no news is good news - but we're talkin' NHS here.....) so as the Surgery is only about 100 yards from the bottle bank I figured I'd call in rather than phone up. Wrong..... There was a note on the (closed) door shutter to say it was shut this afternoon "for staff training"; I've since heard that a friend's Surgery in Stevenage was also shut today as well for the same reason, so I guess today wasn't a great day to get sick. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted November 14, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 14, 2023 Evening all from Estuary-Land. I can honestly say that I've never knowingly eaten a Big Mac here in the UK. Though when I visited the USA many years ago on a fly drive I practically lived on junk food. The reason was that most of the junk food emporiums such as Maccy D's, KFC and Pizza Hut ,and a few others that never made it to this side of the pond operated an 'Eat all you can for $1' scheme 11:00 to 15:00 and they even gave you doggie bags. 9 2 1
tigerburnie
I can't say that McD food is bad tasting, as when the grandkids have kidnapped me into going into the place, the food had absolutely no flavour at all, I suspect the packaging had more flavour, indeed I suspect the packaging had more nutrition too. 2 3

BG Now really my dear Bear you should know better than to say such things no day is good day to get sick were your local GP is concerned. You'd only go and create 'work' for them if you fell ill whilst you were on the premises. Far better to stagger outside, collapse on the pavement and wait for some poor innocent passerby to ring for an ambulance, get put on hold, be told that your call is important to them and listen to the Vivaldi, Def Leopard, iron maiden musak only then get told that no ambulances are available and can you make your own way there. Apologies for those ERs who have family who work in the medical profession but it's the rest of the &_£#@ who let you down. 2 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted November 14, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 14, 2023 Good evening everyone The traffic going to and from Manchester Royal Eye Hospital was horrendous. We left home 40 minutes before the appointment and got there 1 minute before the appointed time. Getting back was worse, we got to the car at 4:30 and it took us almost 10 minutes to get out of the car park! Of course, at that time of the evening, we hit the rush hour traffic and all the main roads out of Manchester were busy, but I remembered a few short cuts from when I used to work around the Manchester area and we managed to get home just after 5:30! Despite all that, the appointment itself went well, Sheila was initially just expecting to have another pre-op assessment, but after that was completed, she was given the date of 2 January next year for her actual cornea transplant! This surprised us both, but now that she has a date, we can now plan with some certainty a start date for the kitchen refurbishment. We were going to start this in early January, but we’ll no postpone this until April instead. This will give us a bit more time to get things organised and stuff delivered etc. it also means I can continue in the cellar now as well. 21

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted November 15, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 15, 2023 We are home. The journey back wasn’t too bad. We got about 100yards out of Malham and Aditi decided to go into a farm shop to see if they had a mug she could get as a present for her Mum. She was in there ages, and came out with a mug, some Parkin, a fridge magnet and two venison pies. We traversed Yorkshire , very wet at first, we had plenty of time to admire Bradford City Centre as it seems to have a lot,of roadworks. We arrived at our friends who live near the A1 near Grantham for a late lunch and then set off for home. Just as we passed the exit for Stansted the satnav suggested leaving the M11 at the A414 and cutting across to Chelmsford. Aditi looked,at,Google maps, and it looked as if someone had turned a chunk of the M25 into a car park. We did eat the venison pies. Served with locally sourced (kitchen cupboard) baked beans and a nice cup of tea. The car went well, though apparently my key fob signal was weak, but I sorted that out with a new battery after we had lunch. There was an odd flashing warning symbol informing me that Hill Descent Control (HDC) was unavailable. As I hadn’t even turned it on this was a surprise. I suspect a sensor had got wet. I pressed the HDC button twice (on and off) and the warning disappeared. HDC isn’t something required for on road use, certainly not where I was. After all the rain, the car is merely grubby now rather than filthy. I was pottering around upstairs turning things back on when a plaintive voice asked me to come down and look at something. The something was water appearing from under the washing machine. We dried it up and restarted it on a short programme so we could see at what point it leaked but it didn’t so hopefully it will be ok. We really liked our break in Yorkshire. Even the rain was spectacular. We might go back in the spring. Tony
RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted November 15, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 15, 2023 On car batteries I had a shock when the battery died on my Audi. It was replaced under warranty so no issues there but I asked how much it'd cost later in the cars life and got a shock as apparently the battery has to be keyed into the cars electronic system so needed a specific battery and for an Audi service centre to do the job meaning £££££££££££££££s. 1 4
