Mrs Puppers and young Ms Puppers had a weekend in Edinburgh a few weeks back. They used the train straight from St Evenage right into the heart of the city (well you all know where the station is). So much more convienent than when I and Mrs Puppers went a few years ago on Squeezy Jet which of course dumps you some distance from where you want to be. Anyone want to spend a weekend at Old Oak Common? ION Went to the dentist this morning for a check-up. All good. Whilst in the town I picked up a copy of MRJ. Nice article on some bloke’s engine shed. Whoops, I mentioned something connected with parallel strips of metal. I think I got away with it 🤞 20

PS - Even though I am an RMWeb Premium member I still got the damned pop up ad today that others are complaining about. At the risk of tempting Fate, so far at least, I haven't. (Long may that continue). The 'full-fat' Gold option wasn't (and isn't) for me, at least at the moment. Due to the particular IT set-up I had, I wasn't troubled much by adverts anyway but when the Premium option came along, went for it, it seemed right to put a bit in to a site I spend a bit of time on and have got a lot from. On other sites I do occasionally get intrusive adverts, it's counter productive as I make a point of not buying from them. And given half a chance I tell them why! Maybe I'm old fashioned but I like adverts to be informative and tempting (dare I say alluring?), not in yer face 'you must buy this' [or else your life is poorer for it] or 'hey you, stop what you're doing and look at me'. 6 3

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted October 3, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 3, 2023 I've had one of my surgery's regular news emails, this time about X rays. If a patient is told by a GP that they need an X ray they can now be booked at the town's hospital (or others in the same trust) online, as well as by phone. The nearest general hospital also offers a walk in service following a GP referral. I am finding the periodic emails quite useful in telling me what is going on. Below is part of the home page for the surgery, just for interest. David 14

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted October 3, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 3, 2023 (edited) Afternoon Awl 2, Went back to the workshop, making a ply core to the first building, that is actually supporting the end of that unit. Lots of window holes to be cut out tomorrow. Had delivered the service kit for the stove, including a new glass, ordered it Sunday it arrived about 14:00 all the way from Axminster. So sometime in the next few days that's a couple of hours work. Edited October 3, 2023 by TheQ

It was fascinating to see the different styles of travel. There were a group of bikers about my age who had ridden up from Texas with their bikes festooned with luggage in nets and panniers, staying 3 or 4 to a room in cheap motels. We had a pleasant evening watching the trains roll by. I was touring on my pushbike. The next day as I cycled along near the interstate, I saw Big fancy jeeps going past with trailers attached with two spotless Harleys strapped on the trailers, his and hers. In the late 1980s when I lived in Southern California a colleague rode his Honda Gold Wing to Sturgis. He got a lot of flak from the Harley crowd for his 'rice burner' until they realized he had actually ridden all the way instead of trailering his ride.

Ian Abel
Chewsday... Not much to report from Monday, work Jemma dropped in for a brief visit and to collect a package delivered here, custom model of the Embraer 175 in Compass/Delta Connection livery, the first passenger jet she flew. Won an EFE RLH bus on Ebay - I blame zoom friends for me looking again and finding something to spend tokens on 🤣 Today, quiet, work that will be about it. 21c and partly sunny/partly cloudy (your choice/preference of description), high of 28c expected. Some rain possible later. 15

Morning, from a damp rock which is a mere 12c. Autumn is kicking in. Today mate H is coming around to talk about those tings for a couple of hours, then I'm off to the physioterrorism course to be beasted for an hour. So far its pain but no gain, but I will do the full course and give it a chance. A trip up into beamland yesterday looking for some of 'those' toys resulted in discovery of several I had forgotten about, and several conspicuous by their absence. There must be another box.....somewhere. Hmm.....much thinks needed. Jamie mentioned the Ripper - a mate in the same force actually spoke to him when doing all car stops along a route they suspected he travelled, and flagged him as dodgy but only on copper's gut feeling, nothing they could pin down. It was discarded..... Some years ago a mate of mine did some work on the Ripper's Rover P6, it still exists but has had a reg' number change at some point. 2 14

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted October 3, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 3, 2023 I've done a few bits today. I went to Plessey Woods for a walk this morning. There are some steep uphill bits in places, last time when I got to the first one I had to stop twice on the way up and again at the top. Today I just walked briskly up the slope, puffing a bit at the top. Last time it took me 45 minutes to do the actual walking bit, this time just over 30. This time I only stopped when I wanted to to look at trees and take photos, last time I had to keep stopping to get my breath back. I must be getting better and hope to have a longer walk next time. After that I went to a nearby garden centre for a scone and coffee. As usual there were some of their trainees about, it is run by a charity who prepare and train people with learning disabilities to get jobs. The ones who have stayed with them to work are good at their jobs. They had just put up their Christmas displays, I will go back and have a good look round as they have a lot of things which would make good gifts. I just bought a few books and some plants along with jars of nice chutney. Although they sell all sorts of things their main business is still selling garden stuff. Then I visited Dunelm Mill and managed to negotiate the new roundabouts on the way to the car park. It was busy but as usual there was space within about 10 cars of the shop. I now have new glasses (the drinking sort) and other odds and ends. Back at home I've worked on today's photos and emptied the car and vacuumed it. I even remembered to leave the locking wheel nuts, handbook and service record in the car. A few of today's photos are below - I was too early to get really good photos in amongst the trees as the sun was still quite low, it is better in the late morning in October. Popular Post Erichill16
One more email sent, shopping shopped, Brenda visited and now at mils with nephews. Not had much time for anything else but a bonus. Saw man in village who repairs windows and doors and as our main door is sticking i asked if he could come and fix it. Didnt expect it but he called round half an hour later and now fixed, a result! (£35). Next task, dogs need walking and then MRC.

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 3, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 3, 2023 Evenink. Physioterrorism lived up to its name, hopefully there will be gain after the pain. I had to have restorative fish n chips on the way home to recover, needed a crane to get out of the car after sitting for 45 minutes driving home. I need a car with higher seats. Had a nice chat with mate H this morning, always nice to see him as at one time he thought he would be in a box by now. Forbidden things were talked about for a couple of hours. As he was a theatre scrub nurse he knows only too well what his future might have held, thanks to Flavio and his pals he's till here to tell the tale. 17

It remained in use as the “extension pantry” until last week. It has now returned to its previous duty of containing stocks of fabric.
