RMweb Gold Popular Post Hroth Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 28, 2023 Storm whatshername was pretty much a non-event here, despite my location being pretty coastal near Liverpool. A bit of rain in the early afternoon, accompanied by a brief period of gusty wind. It all cleared up into early evening sunshine, the seaweed and pinecone mongers are expecting a mostly sunny day today, with light breezes. I don't know why I'm complaining, I hope everyone else was affected as little as I was! Hey ho... Anyway, I'm now feeling autumnal and bread'n'butter puddingish... 22

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 28, 2023 Morning, from a rock that may now be a little closer to Dumfries, but no great disaster occurred. All a bit over hyped (surprise...) really, a gale yes, but nothing really out of the ordinary other than a little early in the autumn. Today will bring...err...not a lot I think, routine errands and tasks with perhaps some time in the place where the toys are.
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 28, 2023 Good morning all. It be rather cloudy and grey here. We should get some sunny spells followed by more cloud, the chance of the odd shower and it may be breezy. 15°C rising to a high of 19°C. No storms here, it was a bit breezy in the night but that's all. The ascent and descent of the North Face of Mount Loft were managed without mishap. Much Sharking around was done and The Boss is reasonably happy but I expect we'll have to do it all again today and tomorrow. I managed to splash some paint around in The Shed and may do a bit more today. I even watched the rugby match (Uruguay v Namibia) that I wasn't that interested in but then thought that was a bit disrespectful to those guys who might only win the one match in the tournament and have trained for years for. Glad I did, it wasn't too bad a game. Japan v Samoa tonight, now that could be really good. One bin lorry due which is a bit late today and we have a large Sainsbury's order coming. Only one sub on that which is pretty good but it will have to be rejected and yours truly will have to go in search of the correct item. Tea has been taken to Management and very shortly I expect to hear the magic words "timetogettamoveon." Have a good one, Bob.

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 28, 2023 Mooring Awl, Couldn't get to sleep for a long time , then 5 hours near solid sleep.. then nothing, Ben the I want out Collie appeared, he was early again, i managed to delay him for a time. We wandered around the garden, he had a good snuffle. Still quite dark as it's heavily overcast, light dew, a light breeze. The gale was non existent, here we certainly didn't hit the 45mph forecast. It's "timetogettamoveon"©GDB as in 1/2 hour WE are going shopping. I've moved around 26 times,, large proportion were under control of many parents , then many more involved throwing my kit in the car and heading for the next RAF base, though I surprised a couple by arriving in a 38 foot long vehicle combination.. aka a car towing a sailing boat. Just once was it a house move .. never again, many return trips from MK to here in Norfolk in a 14 day period... Time to... gettamoveon. 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 28, 2023 (edited) Good morning everyone Well it’s a bit dull here, the weather yesterday was very much the same as @Hroth had to deal with, nowhere near as bad as we were lead to expect. Today, we are off to Kedleston Hall, just outside Derby, to meet up with some friends. We’re going to spend the day at the hall and grounds, taking in something to eat whilst there. It’s 3 months since we last met up so there’s lots to catch up with. We’re really looking forward to a day out! House moves, about 10 when I was a kid, so I took no part in them. When I was 18, I moved into a flat, when I was 19 I moved back home, (so I could save up for a car). In both cases all my belongings fitted into the boot of a mates car. We moved into our first house (rented) when we got married, then 18 months later into this house, all our possessions went into the back of a Luton bodied transit van, but it took 2 trips. But, as each trip was just over a mile, it didn’t take long, it was all done before dinner. We’ve now lived here for 43 1/2 years, the longest I’ve ever lived at one address. Back later. Popular Post pH
Defining ‘living’ at an address as having received mail there, I lived at 19 addresses in 34 years. I’ve lived at the current address for 41 years. When we applied to immigrate to Canada, one section of the (paper) form was to list all addresses in the previous 10 years. My reply on the form ended with “Continued on attached sheet”. 14

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 28, 2023 (edited) Moves, 3 as a child and teen though I can't remember the first as I was only 9 months. Then 3 addresses in 8 months in London. Back home then back and forth to Uni for a year followed by 2 addresses the following year at Poly, then back home before joining the Force. 3 addresses in 5 years then stability for 38 years in Gildersome. Then one more move France. We have both vowed never again. There are still some boxes in the shed after 5 years. RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 28, 2023 Grew up in the house I was born in. Three moves while at college, one for each year, then 7 different ships - one twice. A flat together for a year rented, then one address for 22 years after we bought, 5 moves in a year here in temporary (bit obvious!) addresses waiting for our house to be built, then finally here, hopefully the last move. Out distant signal (wet) is fixed.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 28, 2023 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Woke up in the middle of the night with Arthur Itis going hammer and tongs. I took a couple of Nurofen but it took about an hour before I got back to sleep. As a result I didn't wake up until almost eight. But by then the Nurofen had done its thing and Arthur Itis was back in his den.

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 28, 2023 Thinking of moving I had 6 addresses while still at school and4 different schools. It could be 7 if you count several months staying with friends to do my O levels after my parents moved. 2 of those moves were because the accommodation went with Dad's job. Then University with 2 addresses - hall of Residence then a flat. Since then 3 addresses, I've now lived in my house in Northumberland for 43 years. It was a house I found by chance having come to the town to look at houses I found some new builds in progress of construction, there was one left for sale in my price bracket - I think it took about an hour to make up my mind, during which time I visited the beach for the first time. This morning will be the usual visit to church very shortly, then coffee, then perhaps a walk. The afternoon might involve the garage but I think it is more likely to be sitting with a book as I feel very tired today. There wasn't enough wind to wake me during the night, it was only a strong breeze but I have done a bit too much in the last few days. The irritation left in my lungs/trachea is still a nuisance, but each day seems better than the one before. David 20
Popular Post tigerburnie
I've moved quite a few times lived in 13 different houses/flats and as a yoof dossed around in 3 more different locations in 4 different countries. We used to like moving at one point, but there are a couple of cardboard boxes in the loft that were packed in the 1980's that are still unpacked after 4 house moves, but I am not allowed to bin the contents that include the bosses wedding dress, thing off the top of our wedding cake and other assorted "must keep" items lol.
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted September 28, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 28, 2023 I have moved six times in my life, the first move was when I moved from my grandparents to my parents new council house in Elm Park which I don't remember being only just over a year old. The next move was to a bigger house in Hornchurch (after my sister was born) that was ideal for us kids because at the bottom of the garden was Harrow Lodge Park. We lived there for over ten years and then in 1965 we moved to a maisonette in Romford as my dad had changed his job and without a car and being on shift work the house in Hornchurch was inconvenient. About 1970 we moved to a house only a short distance away which my dad eventually purchased under 'right to buy'. When my dad retired I purchased the house from him for quite a bit less than it was worth but enough for him and my mother to purchase their retirement property. I did then find that a three bedroom house was a bit too large for a single person so as I always fancied living in Burnham-on-Crouch I sought a property down there and found a Victorian (1862) terraced cottage that was ideal, apart from the commute for which a car was the only viable means. Then two things happened, firstly the local railway line was electrified which made commuting a little easier and then my mother passed away. After living on his own for a few months my dad sold up and came to live with me but then the cottage became to small and inconvenient for my dad so we moved Basildon where I have lived ever since (for 35 years). The value of the cottage in Burnham had trebled in five years largely due to the 'sparks effect' so I paid a little less for this house as I received for the cottage that just covered the legal and moving expenses. I have lived here for the last 35 years and I doubt I will be moving again.
