Popular Post monkeysarefun
Look at all the model building I've done since Monday night! . (If you ignore the weeks of CAD that it took to draw them up.....) I'm all for model-building that you can do while you are away at work or asleep. Just press a button and a model rises from the goo. "Print me some more, modelling slave!" And this is a 3D printers party piece. I got it free off the internet, and it is printed in one piece as shown here.. After curing it was just a case of gently easing the motion back and forth until the parts freed up and it became a fully operational V8 block, there's even a Phillips head slot in the flywheel so you can attach an electric screwdriver to it and really let it rip. 5 stars! monkeysarefun
This sign was on the way to work this morning. I'm not sure what the scenario was since it was all over by the time that I passed through, but I wonder at the situation that meant someone thought they needed (and had the time) to write out a sign and then colour it in pink. On-site open-heart surgery, Flying Doctors evacuation..., who knows. Edited September 6, 2023 by monkeysarefun 11 4
RMweb Premium Popular Post jjb1970 Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2023 My heart goes out to Barry and Mrs Barry and I think Andy ID has provided sound advice to look at alternatives to the NHS. It's not acceptable. Unfortunately I have little confidence in the system. I have mentioned my father who was all but told to stop wasting time when he had a brain tumour. My brother was told he had gout, by the time he finally got a doctor to do a proper investigation tendon damage was diagnosed but by that time the damage was irreparable. My own horror story was a botched appendix removal. I was fobbed off for a day, when Mrs JJB decided enough was enough and took me to A&E they diagnosed and booked surgery but it burst before the operation. They then failed to remove all the muck and discharged me after three days on IV drugs because they were worried about infection indicators but decided things were going the right way so I could go on oral drugs. A couple of days later I was ferried back to the hospital with a large stomach abscess and a roaring infection. They did another operation and then I was on a cocktail of IV drugs and IV feeding for a week. They only told me after being discharged that if the infection hadn't responded to the drugs they were pumping into me they were out of options. What angered me wasn't the various mistakes. I am not so silly as to imagine doctors are infallible, but there's a culture that 'you're getting it for free so why are you complaining ' with an expectation that people put up and shut up. Nobody ever apologized to my father or brother. In my case the first discharge letter to my GP said the appendix did not rupture and did not mention the concern about infection, I got the impression they just changed the name and address on a standard letter. The doctor who looked after me in the second half of it all was excellent and was quite blunt in his opinion of why I was there but again nobody from the hospital ever apologized. I asked the ward sister why my first discharge letter was factually wrong and didn't mention the infection and her face went white as I suspect she thought I was going to call a lawyer and they were on a very sticky wicket. I wasn't (and didn't), I just wanted to know. The standard response to any criticism seems to be to blame either the government of the day or the last one (depending on political affiliation), it's all the secretary of state's fault. Now if I had much positive to say about the UK government I'd say it but general government ineptitude doesn't explain doctors making basic mistakes because they didn't bother making any effort to investigate, basic errors in a surgical procedure which is probably as routine as any surgical procedure and just using a standard discharge letter without thinking about whether it is appropriate (and then getting very evasive when asked about it). I think this is a rant, sorry.

While there are references like the quote below to support the assertion, it's very hard to imagine something requiring an electric field in vacuum would not be susceptible to a nuclear EMP - particularly from more 'modern' devices. Quote Older, vacuum tube (valve)-based equipment is generally much less vulnerable to nuclear EMP than solid state equipment, which is much more susceptible to damage by large, brief voltage and current surges. Soviet Cold War-era military aircraft often had avionics based on vacuum tubes because solid-state capabilities were limited and vacuum-tube gear was believed to be more likely to survive. It makes me wonder if it's not a bit of a cold war old wives' tale. The suggestion that they weren't destroyed, but could be reused after the event is a meaningful distinction. I doubt they would function flawlessly during the event. Oops: Andy covered it already. 21 hours ago, AndyID said: Probably a load of complete borlocks. Sometimes it's hard to play catch up. Another hot and humid day forecast. 20°C now possibly rising to 32°C . Thurs/Sains,Bins/day. No bin lorries yet and Sainsbury have notified us of one unavailable item. I suspect we will survive. Tea has been taken up to the Boss and no spiders were harmed in the process. I suspect I will be staying mainly undercover today, either in The Shed or back in the house. Have a good one, Bob.
RMweb Premium TheQ Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 7, 2023 Mooring Awl, 5 hours sleep. Some intermittent dozing after.. Ben the I'm getting impatient waiting Collie, took me on patrol, when I wandered off route to look at some planned gardening. He just stood there and refused... Not his route, not till I came back did he carry on with his snuffle. There was a large 1.5 inch + spider in a bin SWMBO was using for wool waste yesterday, no help was given for it to escape it's shiny sided construction . The wool waste was from her newly bought drum carder, I recovered many brownie points by stripping it down for a full clean and rebuilding it successfully. Came across a history of this drum carder online. Seemingly it was produced by a guy who was unhappy with drum carders available at the time in 1978. He was an engineer so designed this one , and put it into production making over 3000 over just under 30 years. SWMBO's has a plate stating number 962 made in 86. I'm getting hints on wanting it electrified, should be easy enough other than getting a cog wheel to fit on the drive motor shaft that fits the 180XL037 drive belt. Lots of research needed on that. Radars had colours in their development names, I've worked on or with Blue Yeoman, Green Ginger, Green Garlic and others I remember going into the teachers common room, that one with the cigarette smoke pouring out of the open windows. Actually it was a classroom with old sofas and arm chairs in it, and a table in the corner with a tea urn on it. For us pupils the common room was outside. You weren't allowed in the buildings at break time whatever the weather. The teachers common room still had its blackboard, the rotary rubber type, and on it was the teachers time table all chalked out.. Plan for today. Cut back sideshow Bob ( aka Berberis Purpura) won't manage all of it today, it's about a week's work to do all of it. Work will cease when I'm too hot and or too tired. Office staff sorted it all out.....bar one....lucky git.....who fell behind the radiator and was on leave, on full pay, for a year before someone said, 'Hey where's Alan X'? He was legendary in the company. Were there any signs that Management "had a downer on him" after that for not querying the need for his attendance for so long? Bear here...... Missions accomplished yesterday included fitting a cheapo "Door Open Alarm" to the fridge door - the light goes off long before the door is actually shut so that also stops the in-built alarm from sounding (ask Bear how he knows....); the gadget added yesterday should prevent that from now on. Then it was off to see "Charlie the Carpet Man" to deliver a couple of mats for whipping - a wonderful, "just like wot factories used to be like" kinda place. Cost for the two mats is estimated to be a tenner. Bargain. On the way back to Bear Towers I managed to raid the local Tess & Co, as well as drop off some items to the Hospice Shop that I'd wanted to get rid of for some time - that's yet more space freed up in the muddlin' room, which is A Big Tick. I did try to drop off the parcel to the local PO that Postie failed to collect the day before, only to discover they're shut until Monday; I've arranged yet another collection for today instead - which of course may or may not happen...... The upstairs curtains were successfully removed, washed & dried on the washing line, all without incident; refitting them is today's first mission, after which it's a MIUABGAD. I also discovered that I still have plenty of paint (Jotun Demidekk) for recoating the outside of the Conservatory; which is A Very Good Thing as the can of it I purchased last time (2.5L I think) has a price tag of seventy quid on it. Ouch. I'd be starting that job this week if it wasn't so bluddy hot (the paint definitely won't like it). Bear Gone.

She cannot get comfortable and is now even larger (10+ months pregnant size) than last week.... Apparently the strike isn't about more pay .. the insultants want to se the NHS to be "safer" in other words they want to screw it over even more than they do now..... Two faced or what? Ranging Baz It would seem, given the current totally unacceptable state of affairs (which would be totally unacceptable wherever medicine is practiced), that the best solution would be to take Mrs Baz to the A&E unit of a large or teaching hospital (not where she went before) and claim that she is in unbearable pain due to the untreated mass (exaggeration here is necessary). At the very least they will need to do some sort of workup - which is likely to be more informative and likely to lead to better treatment than what she's had so far. I wouldn't be so harsh on the consultants - they're working in a toxic corporate "woke" tick-box culture that prizes treating patients to meet targets rather than treat patients to meet medical need. Chances are that the consultants have been told by management to "prioritise" other patients (an aspect of NHS corporate culture that was investigated and the results published in a recent journal article) 3 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 7, 2023 Good morning everyone When I got up this morning, it was so dull, I thought someone had nicked the sun! Then when I got downstairs I noticed that it had been raining and it looks like it could rain again in the not too distant future, but at the same time, the sun looks like it’s trying to shine, I wish it would make its mind up. Anyway, Sheila is getting herself ready for her Zumba class, so I’m keeping out of the way by sitting in the dining room. I forgot to mention last night that the hole around the new stop tap was back filled yesterday, but it is still awaiting the final tarmac covering, so I still can’t park on the drive. Hopefully this will get done before the weekend, but I’m not holding my breath on that one! As for doing any painting on the workshop, given the dodgy looking weather and the feint possibility of needing to move the car so the tarmacking can be done and if the door bell was rung, I’d not here it in the back garden. So, I’ve decided to stay inside today just in case, so I’ll do a bit more work on the computer and hopefully get some more control panel artwork done. Back later. RMweb Gold DaveF Posted September 7, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 7, 2023 It was foggy during the night but by this morning it had lifted and there has been a very light shower. It is now dull, very humid but only 15C. It feels quite unpleasant. I slept a bit better having only one longish spell awake thoughI suspect I may have dropped off for a while in the middle of it. I shall be glad when the after effects of the infection go away and the iritation in my wind pipe dies down. It looks as though I may have to take some of the new antihistamines to settle it. There's not much planned for today, just a trip to church, then it will depend on the weather. I thought about some garage tidying so I can move some shelves but it is too sticky - and it is forecast to be hot over the weekend so it can wait until it is cool enough to things without feeling baked. I may end up just sitting reading and relaxing, it might do me good. David 16

woodenhead
Woke up to the sound of rain in South Manchester too, it's in that inbetween bit currently - cloud thinning to haze and sun beginning to shine. Work meeting at 9 - those in the south of the country are getting ice creams delivered to the office, those of us who work from home have to make our own trips outside if we want one. I spent some time last night watching the proceedings in Fulton County, and whilst difficult to follow it's so much more refreshing to hear just legal arguments over bluster and hyperbole. However, the star of last night's viewing was Chunk the groundhog and his family.
