RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted September 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 5, 2023 Afternoon Awl, French canal boats was a successful search I found the required craft a "demi-flûte." That'll fit nicely. On surfacing this morning SWMBO said 'you don't look well', you need to take the day off.. .... That'll be why I've just returned from her weaving group with a carding machine... And a ? No idea what that is Anyway she paid £50 and I've just looked up the drum carder and you are looking at £450 to £650 for a similar new model... Stopping on the way back for fuel and BMWs, the first Large BMW was being driven round the supermarket car park against the one way system. The second came charging round a blind for him corner to to be confronted by the Landrovers bull bar. Luckily my high up position in the Landrover meant I had seen his roof and stopped early..He still had to heave on the wheel and put wheels up on the verge to avoid me though. Earlier while it was cool, two barrow loads of concrete rubble was collected from next door, and deposited where the new path will be. It was then roughly levelled.. Between that and the weaving group I started sketching ideas for the unmentionable.. I've squeezed it down onto Juan sheet ( of ply). Most of the " decorations" have been positioned on paper. No doubt they'll move on plywood. Then Ben insisted on his long walk but he decided it was too hot and cut it short... I'm glad he did because my legs were not happy.. particularly left knee... I'm awaiting some fine blades for my saw, these will be used to cut the ply for the unmentionable, it now says due 15:35 that's down from 22:00 earlier... But first.. a can and eyelid inspection not necessarily in that order.. 18
RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted September 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 5, 2023 Afternoon All, Oxfam was oxfammed yesterday - it gets boring pricing everything at £1.99 - so imagine my surprise to find two books that were priced on Bookfinder at over £20 each, and one gardening booklet about lichen which priced up at around £30 - all beyond my pay grade, so went upstairs for manager to do more research and to list them online. Today, I am meant to be having one of my faves -scampi, a spam fritter, and chips - 30747 suggested a chicken korma using the slightly out of date jar of mix - guess who won - I'll give you a clue - the scampi and fritters are still in the freezer, and the korma is on the oven. Lily in kennels for two days - one we plan to visit the in laws,in Berkshire, and the other a longer than normal day in Shrewsbury which is also now where the nearest branch of Barclays is - we need to pay the plumber's bill, and the "Local presence" was unable to assist, as her laptop would not verify the plumber's bank details. RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted September 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 5, 2023 Afternoon all, A warm one. Some bits - including 'orrible paperwork - done earlier but now it's time to sit quietly in a corner and melt into a bucket. A loaf of bread has been put on for tea but thankfully using the breadmaker rather than an oven. Some photos taken, including very, very tiny bits for unmentionables on another thread. Larger items, the laurel tree out the back is looking colourful - as well as its own berries, it has a climbing plant growing up inside the branches and emerging in gaps all round the canopy. This is now flowering in honeysuckle type flowers and the whole tree is looking somewhat ... 'artistic'. I have also appeared to have crossed verbena with a blackberry. There was a bee in shot as well just before clicking the button but he/she must have been camera shy...

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted September 5, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 5, 2023 I did a bit of garden tidying this morning, just deadheading and removing the weeds which I am sure were not there yesterday. I made sure I know what I want doing to the paths etc. I may also get some shrubs trimmed which would save me doing them this autumn. Then I drove to the beach and had a nice walk on the prom. It was very calm again and there were even people swimming. All the birds except the starlings had gone somewhere else for the day. There was a very gentle sea breeze which strengthened a bit as the day went on so it has not been too hot but I have still had the blinds shut on the sunny side of the house. The bin men came just as I got back so I spent a long time chatting to neighbours while we put our bins away, as always we have put the world to rights. This afternoon I fell asleep - a few nights of poor sleep have caught up on me. Cloud is now rolling in off the sea, I think that shortly it will become a sea fret for the evening, the forecast is that it may clear by lunchtime tomorrow for a few hours so the temperature could reach 18C. Shortly it will be time for tea than I may watch some cricket - or I might just read again. David

On the subject of headaches..... There was just a feature on the TV News about a guy that went to A&E with a very bad headache.... ....and they told him it was because he had.....Appendicitis 😲 Something to do "referred pain" or summat. So next day they whip his Appendix out, only to find there's n'owt wrong with it - and promptly discharge him. The headaches continue, so he goes back - this time he's treated like a time waster and a Doc tells him it's because they'd found opiods in his blood and he's been doing drugs. Er, perhaps it's cos' they'd given him pain relief when doing the Appendix? He's kicked out again. So this time he goes to a different Hospital and they diagnose - an inoperable Brain Tumour... I don't recall over what timescales all this happened but it has meant that (a) treatment to prolong life has been delayed, and (b) he's had unnecessary surgery. Unbelievable. 2
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 5, 2023 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Went down to Tess Coes this afternoon and stocked up on cold liquids of the non-alcoholic variety. Watching the six o'clock news they showed buildings that were crumbling due to being built with RAAC. There are houses on this estate with concrete window sills that are crumbling in exactly the same way. Luckily my house (built c.1959) has no evidence of that concrete, the houses affected are of a slightly later build. 3 2 2
RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted September 5, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 5, 2023 Evenin' each, It's been a bit 'ot 'ere as it probably has everywhere else. Spent a some time in The Shed but gave up when it got up to 30°C and I started to melt. Had a lazy rest of the afternoon and then enjoyed a cold Speckled Hen at beer o'clock. Followed that with an air fried gammon steak which was most enjoyable. After dinner went out and watered the garden and had a chat with mate Russ next door. He's had the gas man in for two days fitting a combi boiler and is very impressed with the results and cleanliness etc. We also spoke about England's Rugby World Cup prospects....that part of the chat didn't last long. Now waiting for Celebrity Masterchef on the box although the Celebrity bit is probably somewhat exaggerated.

All the doctors in the family say I imagined what happened to Matthew in A&E when he was 14. He had what turned out to be later diagnosed as an epileptic seizure. The first responder paramedic and ambulance paramedics had been excellent. Anyway we arrive at A&E and he was seen quickly but the whole attitude was somewhat “brisk” , and seemed to be about what drugs he may have been taking. I said I been with him apart from about 30 minutes and he was playing a game in Games Workshop. One of the problems was that neither the paramedics , phlebotomists, nurses or the “I can get blood out a stone” doctor could take a blood sample. After 13 failed attempts another doctor took an arterial sample. As soon as the blood test results came back everyone started being ”nice”. It was really different. The relatives insist that it was my imagination about the change of attitude. But I was there. Edited September 5, 2023 by Tony_S

Back in mid 1991 Bear (having been working silly hours + 100 miles/day, every day for some months) finally flaked out one morning in the bathroom and busted my spine in the fall. During the resultant A&E visit the Doc said that "I had a low white blood cell count**" - Momma Bear was there and heard the same thing too. After returning home and seeing my GP she got rather interested and arranged further blood tests, as well as a copy of the Hospital Notes. When she received those it turned out that the original test wasn't low - it was high, suggesting an infection of some sort. A small but rather significant difference. **Which can be caused for numerous reasons, one of them being leukaemia
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 5, 2023 (edited) Evening all from Estuary-Land. I mentioned about the next door buy-to-let having the entire back garden paved. I noticed today that the slabs are porcelain which are more expensive than most other slabs. The house has been empty more than occupied over the last five years so generating no income for the owners. RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted September 5, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 5, 2023 We had our patio relaid with porcelain slabs and I 'm glad we did. They look good, clean easily, don't get slippery when wet and judging by the lack of damage when a rather large barrowload of rockery stone tipped over on to them are hard wearing.
