The patient is prepped and managed as for a diagnostic colonoscopy (bowel prep before and something like propofol during). After administration, the patient is discharged (or sent back to the ward) and instructed to take/given an antimotility drug - such as loperamide - for a short while afterward. The antimotility drug slows down bowel function (it increases the time material stays in the intestine, allowing more water to be absorbed, It also decreases colonic movements and suppresses the gastrocolic reflex). If all goes well, the patient ends up with a gut full of healthy "good bacteria" and is on the mend.... *not just any old poo, there's a detailed protocol associated with obtaining the right "good gut bacteria" We've had blood transfusions for many years now but sh!t transfusions is something else. 6

RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted August 24, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 24, 2023 The propensity of some folk to offer curative treatments for anything from athlete’s foot to loss of a limb or cancer when a patient is already receiving qualified medical attention never ceases to amaze me. One of our relatives - in - law who stayed with us for a while a few weeks ago is one such individual and spent half the weekend advising me of what to do about my sciatica. She ignored the fact that am MRI scan had shown what the cause was and persisted in giving me lectures on what to do, largely based on what her mother had told her. Her mother was not medically qualified in any way but she told me that had I been able to meet her she would have cured my trouble in no time flat. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted August 24, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 24, 2023 Some years ago I guy I worked with went on honeymoon to India with his wife, a nurse. They went prepared with Pills. Pills to kill acquired stomach bugs, pills to stop it all leaving to rapidly. , Pills to unblock stoppages, and pills to restore the stomach to normal function, but what they were I have no idea.. Seemingly they were needed. Afternoon Awl, Various bags emptied sorted and some refilled. A really useful box on sale had been acquired up north, it now contains all the working materials for the radar museum cameos. That now is in the ready to go bag. The bag of paints acrylic for unmentionable use is particularly heavy.. Various bits for boat and workshop have been placed. There are brown leaves from oak and sycamore on the grass. An early autumn or it's been to hot and dry? Shoes have been bulled. Museum tomorrow,
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted August 24, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 24, 2023 Another peaceful day. I went to church as usual and had a nice cup of coffee and then helped clear up. On the way home I stopped at the bakers for a Kornish Pasty (that is how they spell them) and a fruit slice. Together they made a very good but somewhat big lunch. Presumably they write Kornish as the recipe is not quite Cornish but they taste good. I got some proper weeding done, down on my hands and knees so part of the garden looks a lot better. I also had a short nap as I still feel run down - but less so today. A number of other small tasks have also been completed. The post came about 3p.m. with 2 magazines which I shall enjoy reading. I think tonight may be reading an dmusic. In other words a relaxing day but not boring. David

I think that someone on her ancestry must have been a snake oil salesman. Dave Some of the proposed alternatives to "mainstream" medical care is offered up by well-meaning but essentially clueless friends and family. All based on "wot someone sed down the pub" or Auntie Nora's never wrong "medical advice". Unfortunately these "alternatives" are far too often proffered - heartlessly and cynically - by people who expect to (and do) profit from peddling quack nostrums. The very best of which (and "very best" is a relative term) just don't do anything at all. And some of the worst are toxic to a greater or lesser degree (it wasn't too long ago that the FDA confiscated a lot of homeopathic and naturopathic treatments that contained high levels of both poisons [e.g. cyanide] and heavy metals [such as cadmium and mercury]). Such scrotes take merciless advantage of the medical and scientific lack of awareness (ignorance?) of the people they are targeting. Such despicable individuals are pretty smart in a low cunning sort of way: they never actually say outright that fermented badger poo is a cure for Type II Diabetes (or whatever) it's always implied, hinted at, indirectly suggested but never stated outright. In oncology often, if such advice is followed or bogus treatment regimens (expensively) undertaken, what could have been a treatable if not curable cancer becomes rapidly fatal. One favourite trick, exploiting the lack of basic medical and scientific knowledge of most people, is to use case histories to show that their treatment works. And in true mountebank style they will take the only patient that has recovered under their care (or has survived) and promote them as prima facie "evidence" of the validity of their treatment. Very carefully omitting to mention that in many cancers spontaneous remission - although very very rare - is not unknown. And as for that load of steaming ordure that is the contention that Pharma Companies are deliberately suppressing cures in order to make pots of money.... Well, I'll best not go there - I might loose my temper (and as Dr Banner says [Incredible Hulk] "Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry..."). 19 1 1

Well when I returned to our hotel in Talloires earlier the summer after sliding down a path and injuring my ankle, the receptionist did suggest being more like Heidi and taking a big stick when wandering in the mountains. They were very kind and lent me a most impressive stick for hobbling around the hotel. When we were on the cruise, after one of our excursions we were provided with a police escort back to the ship , due to some bad behaviour by two passengers, on another excursion (on a tram) someone had to be taken to hospital as they went into a coma. This caused a substantial traffic jam. There was a request for anyone who was a doctor to come forward. I did whisper to Aditi to keep quiet as I didn’t think a Foucaldian analysis of,the situation wouid be useful. The nice couple on the adjacent table at dinner asked how to avoid going on the same excursions as us! 4

I returned to work once after a period of being unwell, and the college vice principal wondered if I had considered trying yoghurt. I asked him what he thought I should do with it and did he not think that if it had been helpful my very good GP and my consultant gastroenterologist would have suggested it instead of steroids, anti inflammatories, immunosuppressives and a load of other stuff. When Bear was suffering with the dreaded "Big H" and it was in full flow I got SOOOOO p1ssed off with people suggesting "Have you tried holding your breath/drinking a glass of water/singing the National Anthem etc. etc. that it's a miracle I never punched any of them. 3 hours ago, Dave Hunt said: The propensity of some folk to offer curative treatments for anything from athlete’s foot to loss of a limb or cancer when a patient is already receiving qualified medical attention never ceases to amaze me. The dilution rate is such that there can't be any detectable amounts of the supposed curatives. The peddlers of these phials of water say that the molecules in them have a 'memory' of the curatives, which is probably the most ridiculous pseudo scientific claptrap I have ever heard. It comes as no surprise to me that my relative-in-law referred to earlier is a firm believer in them. Dave 2 15 5
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted August 24, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 24, 2023 Bear here..... A complete day blown away on deep cleaning the Lounge - all done and Bear very happy that it is as it's been buggin' me for a while now. Humongous Tick awarded. I even managed to bung in a load of washing just to add to the fun, so bonus points awarded. In other news...... I've been trying all day to splash the cash on a new phone - every time I do so the payment has failed to go thru', with the checkout page displaying a message to the effect that it doesn't like the address of Bear Towers, or alternatively there's insufficient funds in the credit card account. I tried different cards, a different browser and also restarting the Lappy, all without success. Turdycurses. I reported it to the company - they suggested that perhaps it could be a problem with the website so hopefully they'll get it sorted asap. So I thought I'd try some alternative medicine, we went for a drive and short walk to one of our favourite Glens on the southern edge of the Cairngorms National Park, the idea was to chill, which we did and I filmed a bit to share with others(if this site permits the link that is). It was heavy fall and we were glad no damage was done apart from bruised pride; it was about a week into a 3 week holiday. 1

I did a bit of artwork and toot on the flute and that is about it. The new twiddly bits are now fitting in nicely on the end of the song so far and the next lot are already looking do-able. I did briefly think about how much there is to go but then thought better of it! One bit at a time...eh? No other news. So take care. Be good. Stay with it.
