pH
City of Port Moody have been installing various outdoor entertainments in city parks over the last couple of years. One near us has table-tennis tables, large-scale chess game and hammocks. I was at the local recreation centre this morning and saw this by the soccer pitch (and there's a table-tennis table in the background):

We had a report on one piece of ChatGPT engined application where the owners state in their terms and conditions if anyone sues them because of what you put through it, then you personally have to pay the legal fees of their representation. Scary! Needless to say we were told in no uncertain terms not to test this particular one. Then last week it was the AI engined Dating App where you could interact with an AI powered avatar of your potential dating partner to see if you liked them or not. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted June 22, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 22, 2023 Good evening everyone Straight after I’d finished my breakfast, I loaded up the car with the spoil from the sump pump excavations and then set off for the tip. When I got there the place was almost deserted. This was great news, as it meant I could park right next to the correct location for the type of waste (hard core and rubble) that I’d got and not have to park yards away and have to carry it, so I was back home within 30 minutes of leaving. I then made a start on the garden, the roses were in need of dead heading and there were some weeds that needed pulling too. I need up taking 2 wheelbarrow loads round to the garden waste bin before dinner. I also cleaned the cellar up and got recycled the box that the sump pump came in and emptied the bins in the workshop and cellar. Well, just like last week, Charlie let us know he wasn’t calling round today, as he had a hangover! Lightweight! So I spent the afternoon in the workshop on my own for a change. 16

Audio of the implosion was picked up by a network of sensors as part of an underwater Navy acoustic listening system, said the official, who declined to go into more detail about the secret system. I long felt the USN had more data than was being shared publicly - for obvious reasons. 10
RMweb Premium Popular Post jjb1970 Posted June 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 23, 2023 I had something of an epiphany several years ago at a meeting in Brussels, it was just after the fire at Notre Dame. People were almost in tears (and one Frenchman literally) so over the fire. A few minutes later the same people were advocating leaving migrants to drown in the Mediterranean Sea. I thought that displayed seriously screwed up values and it left a lasting impression. Migration by sea is a huge problem for commercial shipping, ships are legally obligated to render assistance to those in distress at sea, and entirely properly so. Quite aside from legal demands most sea farers have a natural inclination to help persons in distress (there's an element of self interest as well as altruistic motives, any ship can sink after all). The problem is that once a ship picks up people from the sea getting them landed is a nightmare and ships can end up stuck at anchor because coastal states (which also have legal obligations) refuse to allow migrants to land. The same coastal states would (quite properly) prosecute the same ship if it had failed to render assistance but want someone else to sort out what comes next. Commercial cargo ships are designed for crews of 10 - 30 or so people, and carry food, have fresh water capacity, sanitary capacity etc for the crews, not lots of rescued people. You can imagine what conditions are like if they have to accommodate lots of additional people for an extended period. In the summer sleeping on deck isn't such a problem in nice weather but the Medi suffers some horrendous weather. Now I understand the issues faced by countries, but leaving people to drown at sea, and creating conditions which actively incentivize unscrupulous ships to ignore people in the water and leaving them to drown is not the answer (quite aside from the compelling moral/ethical case, how do you know someone in the water is an illegal migrant and not crew of a ship, yachting enthusiast or any other reason people might end up needing help?). The real answer would seem to be to address problems in some of the countries people are desperately trying to escape from (and what person here wouldn't want to get out of countries like Syria, Libya and others which are, to put it mildly, troubled?), and in some cases we have to take a significant part of the blame for the conditions which cause people to leave.

Popular Post Grizz
Morning All Chook alarm clock went off at 04:25 this morning….so as the closest bedroom window was open it woke me up and, with much sweary muttering under my breath, I wandered off to let them out and make an earlier than planned mokka for Mrs Grizz and myself. Day off work today so I’ll be working. On the list is creasote the newly built post and rail, anti field ornament, fence…. With real creasote… mmmmm that lovely smell, so I’m quite looking forward to this job. Finish topping the last half acre of a two acre paddock with a strimmer as I have now knackered the tractor mower cutting the first acre and a half, (hit a large hidden tree root and sheared off one of the cutter blades)……swearyswearyswearyswearywords. Not looking forward to this job, especially using a flipping strimmer… and finally, if I’m still upright by late afternoon, get scrubbed up for an evening with family and friends. Very much looking forward to this. Have a great day all. ATB Grizz Edited June 23, 2023 by Grizz Stupid iPad auto correct 19

There are some very bad elements in maritime, this seems to be more prevalent in the fishing sector than in commercial shipping and worse in parts of the deep sea Asian fishing sector than others, unfortunately. There are parts of the shipping sector that exist to carry cargo at minimum cost, no questions asked, service clients who face difficulties accessing alternatives etc. 10 6

(I don't present any expertise here.) I'm thinking particularly of forces under Lt Col John Campbell, 5th Duke of Argyll - whose "Highland Battalion" included the Campbell of Argyll Militia - who were later used to pursue Jacobites including at Lochaber and Shiramore. 4 regiments of Scots and Gaels, 1 regiment of Irish, 11 regiments of English . However by this time English regiments could have large amounts of Irish, Welsh and Scots in their numbers. Post the "event" many on the rebel side joined the government forces, some "hiding" some openly. They had been loyal to their clan chiefs who had called them out to battle, but not necessarily to the "cause" . Many had gone home after the battle of Falkirk, more had left at Culloden before the battle due to disputes between the clan Chiefs , also because of disputes between the clan chief and prince Charlie. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted June 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 23, 2023 Mooring Awl, 5 hours sleep, came down to the sofa, just about got to sleep again and Ben the smelly Collie let out a big one, I had to open the windows!! 2 hours sleep. We've been on patrol, very very heavy dew this morning, 100% blue welkin, the apple trees appear to have a lot of fruit forming. Ben walked with me for a bit, which is unusual, normally he wanders around.. he's back on SWMBO's chair snoring now. He'll awake shortly, soon as I head to the kitchen to make breakfast. Plans for today, Go make an exhibit of myself at https://www.radarmuseum.co.uk/.. We have tourists wandering down the road.. it must be summer ( 07:20)

RMweb Gold DaveF Posted June 23, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 23, 2023 (edited) Not a bad night's sleep, I woke about 06.30 and made the first mug of tea for the day ad have caught up on my e mails and sorted out a copy of an image someone wants permission to use in a YouTube video. I'll e mail it to him after breakfast. It's cloudy and humid outside, it may be a day for some light gardening and perhaps a walk. I might even do a bit of research into the possibility of a new mobile as mine is getting old. It doesn't get used much but it does need to work well, especially in areas of poor signal strength. I also want to do some model things. I will probably cut the new plastic pipe covers and put them round the pipes to the upstairs radiators. Or I could just sit and read! David P.S. Yesterday morning I said my internet was slow. I've realised it was simply that my PC was doing a back up of some files to the cloud - they are just photos I really do not want to lose if I have a disaster at home. I must reschedule it for a better time. D. Edited June 23, 2023 by DaveF

And yes, the USN was quite correct to withhold information until they had evidence to corroborate their assessment, even without the obvious need for secrecy. Despite the fact that it had previously been to those depths it seems the hull had a catastrophic failure. Cycling materials through those sort of pressure and temperature changes could have some unknown effects. 12 2
