In my early 20s I ate a Double western bacon cheeseburger for dinner every day for a few days. It put me off the low-end chain burgers pretty much for good. Hartees played on a perceived US-ness (and I assume therefore an assumption that they were better or at least more exotic than the locals) by their TV and billboard ads which had a Yosemite-Sam style cowboy going "Yeeehah" ! As opposed to using an Aussie stockman who'd have probably gone "Strewth...". I've seen my first Carl Jr here recently, in a service station in western Sydney. 5

I’d just finished tidying up, when Charlie called to say he wouldn’t be calling round today, as he was too tired from yesterday’s shift, what a light weight! Not long after, I got confirmation my order was ready so I tootled off and collected it. Once back home, I read the instructions (yes really) and looked at the hose and fittings. The hose fits the pump well enough, but it’s about 3-4 metres short. So, the plan is to fit proper (upvc) solid pipe work with welded joints, from the pump to the top of the garden retaining wall and then connect the hose (which came with a non return valve) to that. I’m also going to fit a screw union close to the pump so that I can remove it for cleaning etc. So, I now need to dig a pit for the pump, however, I have a large empty 20L plastic paint drum which I’ve been using to hold rubbish for the plan is to use this as a sump pit. It’s certainly large enough to hold the pump, but I wasn’t sure if there was enough room for the float switch to actually operate. So, this afternoon I tested to see if the float switch would operate before the water reached the top of the drum. Thankfully this worked, so the plan is to dig a hole that is just big enough for the plastic tub to sit, this will then be covered with a metal grill. Oh and the pump emptied the drum in less than a minute, result! So I’ve still got to dig a hole, it at least I now have a waterproof container that is big enough for the pump and for the float switch to operate. 's Brian, just check that it wil switch on again after the sump refills. I've got two of them in my irrigation system. The float switches seem to stay off for quite a while when the tanks refill the switch on again. I think it' s to with the angle that the switch end up at. RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted June 16, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 16, 2023 Yesterday evening I went to a concert at church given by a visiting choir from south of the River (i.e. south of the Tyne). They sang an enjoyable selection of folk songs, classical and religious music, along with some piano duets and an organ solo. It was followed by wine and simple food. I got home around 9.30, it had made a nice change. I took a few photos during it for the proposed church web site, I had of course checked with the choirmaster beforehand to make sure they were happy with my doing that. So far this morning I have woken up, made a mug of tea and looked out of the window - it is sunny today, no sea fret. I shall shortly decide exactly what I intend to do today. The nearby house which had a fire recently is now covered in scaffolding, it appears they are having the roof replaced as there is a large stack of tiles on their drive. Up at 06.15 after another restless night, bedroom thermometer was showing 23°C and this with all windows open and fan running all night. To say I don't like it would be an understatement. The Boss wants to visit a garden centre and buy stuff but I have already exercised my veto. No chance I'm gardening in this weather. I will probably have another bash at tracklaying until it gets too hot in The Shed. (Reached 33°C yesterday) Soon be time for my Shredded Wheat. Have a good one. Bob. Quite right about not gardening espically not planting. Its far, far to hot. You'd have swamp it with water which would be wasteful ie. expensive and potentially damaging to the plant. Far better to melt in the shed whilst laying track.

Ben the hinting he'd like out Collie appeared, so we went for a stroll, he was quite lively this morning and enjoyed chasing off some pigeons . He was beating up his new toy till a few seconds ago. Dry , 100% blue welkin, light dew. It was noticeable the length of hoze supplied with our sump pump was not generous. I used about 5 lengths of plug together waste pipe to extend it out to the road. I suppose i ought to check the size and order a reel of hoze for it. The pipe has long since been used for other things. I rarely get to eat a burger these days, normally it's only at a show, where they can be " variable"... As the really old farts can't seem to leave before 10 this is an issue at the venue is in Port Erin, eg Lands End almost. And we all live up near the other end. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted June 16, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 16, 2023 Good morning everyone Oh dear, I seem to have got my appointment dates mixed up. I thought I was having my bone scan today, instead it was my PSA test today and my bone scan on Tuesday, doh. Anyway, my appointment was at 8:10 this morning, I booked in just after 8 o’clock, sat down and hadn’t even opened the book I’d taken when I was called in. Blood taken and I was on my way home by 8:05 and back home for 8:15! It’s definitely quicker walking it. I don’t usually leave home without eating first, yet as my appointment was early I decided to eat after returning home. So, it the usual Friday for me, next off it’s a walk to the butchers for the weekly meat rations and a pork pie for my dinner. Then WE are going to the Trafford Centre as Sheila wants to visit the card shop as well as getting a few items for presents etc. We might even get chance to visit a cafe for a drink and a slice. Back later. Brian

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted June 16, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 16, 2023 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Again despite the heat I slept like a log last night, well perhaps like a very active log as the bedclothes were all over the place including the floor. No trouble from the arthritis or sciatica though. Just a bit of housework today, tomorrow I will be going to my late brothers bungalow to assist in the clearing up. Its still not sorted as to whether or not the beneficiaries are still alive or have any descendants. My brother inherited a fifth share of the bungalow from his late wife who inherited it from her first husband who died over forty years ago. The other shares in the property belongs to four of his cousins.

RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted June 16, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 16, 2023 (edited) ' morning all from red dragon land. Sunny and a bit cooler at 25C. Rain at midday-ish so say the pinecone predictors. The garden could do with it. Click n collect groceries this afternoon so I hope the rain stops by then - I hate handling soggy shopping - it is a bit of a walk from the car to the front door. Toot on the flute. Pleased to say that the twiddly bits are mostly sorted on the first section of the new song - enough to play at a reasonable speed though I am still tripping up in a few places. So, it will be awhile longer before I progress onto the next bit. However, the pressure will be off for now and, hopefully, I can enjoy playing these few introductory bars. Moving on. I have indulged myself by buying a new box with flanged wheels. An item* I keep in the medicine box may give you a clue... but I actually got the Mint one. It will be interesting to see what the mint lozenges, which came with my order, taste like. * A pack of the Original lozenges was added to a wagon at the front of Camel Quay at a Blackpool & North Fylde MRC exhibition, a few years ago, held in Fleetwood from where these lozenges originate. Take care. Be good. Breathe easy! An act of remembrance, now, for a family member. Godspeed, good man. While they certainly clear the sinuses, throat, etc and provide a certain numbness, the Original formulation verges on the inedible, except in dire circumstances. I've not tried the Mint, perhaps they'll be a little less aggressive... 12 3 1

Popular Post iL Dottore
I’ve just had the most amazing 9 course Kaiseki dinner in Ito. Every course was but a few bites of utter exquisiteness. However, I don’t think it would meet with the expectations of some of the usual suspects as a) there were no fries of any description (although a rice cracker crusted sweet potato slice was nice and crunchy) and b) there was fish. A lot of fish. So instead a shot of the ocean from the open air terrace (that has free IPA, juices and Ice Lollies on tap!
