Hmmmm…..

Bank holidays, we’ll at least Im not pestered by telesales and the like.

Also the business is closed so won’t be getting anything ‘ for my attention from’  them.

A bit of peace but what to do?

Raining here as well and as SWMBO is finding it difficult to walk and unable to wear a shoe things are a bit limited.

Just about to take Hovis for a walk and hopefully a cunning plan will have been hatched, even one including mil will be acceptable.

Better get a move on, the whole day awaits.

Well I ended up watching more of the Coronation than I planned, wandering in and out, watched bit with a cuppa, back out in the garden etc. Similar with the concert from Windsor, most of that was average, Lionel Richie really should retire, Katy Perry has a new fan....me, she was the nearest to being in tune of the lot although Andrea Bocelli was good.

Good morning all,

Another grey day here with rain forecast.....and it's just started.  Chance of some heavy showers.   13°C up to 18°C.

Latish start after a hectic and enjoyable day yesterday.  The weather was kind to us so we spent all afternoon in the garden.  I didn't have to do much as Steve and James took over the BBQ which was fine by me.  They made a good job of it too.  Mast have done as we have no reports of food poisoning!

Most of the clearing up is now done, just got to clean the BBQ now.  The gazebo will have to stay up now it's got wet.

Not sure what I'm doing for the rest of the day but I do have one recorded rugby match to watch.

Two primed lengths of architrave temporarily fitted to the muddlin' room frame, followed by prep for lining the last remaining wall; I've had a call from the ebay buyer - they're arriving sometime this afternoon to collect it.  A bit of a pain cos' it'll interfere with thoughts of gluing wallpaper on walls, so this'll probably get postponed until tomorrow.

Supertramp. They do not appear to be on my radar. Back in the day, I was listening to the Moody Blues. Having just listened to Days of Future Passed, I can see, now, what appeals about the flute music I have been playing these past 12 months or so. The construction of the Moody Blues themes are so similar, short V-shaped phrases rising and descending, zig-zaging, one after another from one mountain peak to another. Now, I know why I fell for the Indian songs I play and I hope I can do better justice to them, appreciate them more, and give them more.

Good morning everyone 

 

Late on parade today due to having a bit of a lie in and breakfast in bed, well it is a bank holiday! The weather is that predictably associated with a bank holiday, in that it's raining, so no work on the workshop today. So, I've been to the big orange DIY shed and bought some wood to replace the rotten corner pieces and a couple of new router bits. The plan for the rest of the day is to sharpen my chisels as a couple have started to show signs of heavy use.

Agreed 100% about Mr Richie - he was good once, but he's lost it big style - and the 300 voice choir was decent - the lack of autotune (unless it was being used, and I missed it) was obvious.

 

However, the work with the drones was outstanding.

Morning (pre-munch) All!

 

The weather isn't very inspiring today so I've been having a long-overdue sorting stuff out in the garage session.    All the spare BSA engine bits have been sorted.   The smaller items into just one "Really Useful" plastic box and the larger crankcase castings, crankshafts, cylinder barrel and head on some shelves.    At some point when I'm confident that the items are no longer required I will have to get involved in the EBay Seller  rigmarole.   Still,  if I can recover some or all of the cash I've spent harvesting potentially useful bits that will be good.     Won't be easy as most of the bits are really showing their not inconsiderable age (it's pre-War remember) but every little helps as they say.    

 

I've also tried another re-jig of the positions of the bikes and the ramp to try and make more space.   It's better than it was but could be better!     Really, I just need a bigger garage which of course might give better opportunities for more bikes 😂

 

Any thoughts of a potential bimble today are evaporating fast, unlike the rain that is now falling.    Oh well never mind.   

  

Perhaps I should have a ferret around for some sheet nickel silver in readiness for building a K3 chassis?      Or maybe I should investigate "Practical ways to get to London when the train drivers CBA to work"?

Greetings all from a Sidcup which is grey but has not yet produced the promised rain.

 

a quiet day today - we’ve been for our customary walk and I have run the hoover round.

 

yesterday we went to Brands Hatch and watched the BTCC races (and support). The sun surprised us by coming out and I have caught it slightly- hopefully it will have calmed down a bit by tomorrow when not only am I working but I will be in meetings and interviews most of the day!

I have just cut the front lawn. It is forecast to rain for a few days now. Someone somewhere suggested a no mow May was good for the environment. It would have to be no mow April or March round here. The daisies and dandelions will be back tomorrow despite cutting today. I think our mowed lawn is still better environmentally than the paved over fronts most have here. 
MiL came over with Aditi’s sister for afternoon tea yesterday. It got a bit fraught afterwards. MiL wanted some new trousers. Aditi had got her three different sizes to try on as she wasn’t going to cope with going to a shop. She wouldn’t even try them as she didn’t like them. Eventually she did so they got sizing sorted. Then there was a search of Aditi’s wardrobe so MiL could decide what colours and fabric she wanted. The there  was  the the “how much did they cost“. Aditi told her (“HOW MUCH from MiL”) and then there was the “you used to be able to get clothes for ….” . Anyway Aditi had ordered some more trousers, MiL was pleased as even though they were expensive Aditi got a substantial discount (MiL loves a discount ) by using a voucher from English Heritage!

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. No sign of the rain here yet, perhaps its slipped past this corner of Essex or the Downs have created a rain shadow. My front lawn is more dandelions than grass now despite being on the north side of the house. The back lawn had even more but they have shed their seeds and are dying off. Now to visit Tess Coes for some bread and milk.

Painted picture frame black , it will need rubbing down and painting again.

Set up new leads to TV, have many channels, we do..

Set up inherited HP printer, printed test piece, some 1/150 ish windows OK?.

Ordered new cartridges for printer, as we haven't found any yet in SWMBO's brothers stuff.

Ordered printer cleaner cartridges for our old A3 printer.

Now reconsidering layout of computer equipment, I think it will be from left to right.

A3 printer. Laptop, with TV on a bridge above, inherited printer , 3D printer.

Not worked out where to put photo printer we've inherited, ( as in prints traditional photos), Might make space for it on the TV bridge, it's only small.

hmm need more sockets. Have to rootle through the just might be handy stock.

So I grabbed the sticky stuff and decided to glue the lining paper to the last wall after all; the Guy turned up for his Ebay purchase part-way thru', but fortunately at a reasonably convenient moment in proceedings.  The wall is now well and truly lined, so that's a Tick.

They're effective and the dye transfer prints they produce don't fade readily, which is good!

Bear did come up with a most cunning plan.......

 

Bear thought of collecting Puppers from the field opposite Chateau Puppers in the Jet Ranger then nipping up to Battersea Heliport....until I took a ganders at the Landing Fees (£410) and Parking Fees (0-4 Hours £535).....

Oh yes, and then there's the small matter of a Jet Ranger......

 

I'm currently wondering if Puppers has any roller skates.....

The rain has now stopped but is forecast to return in an hour or so, it is milder, about 13C so it feels more pleasant.  It was so damp and cool this morning that put the heating on for a while.  I wonder if I feel the cold more now because my body temperature is often low, it was 35.7C after breakfast, hence the need for heating and I am wearing a sweater.

 

I did some modelmaking bits which took most of the morning and then had a salad lunch.

 

After that the rain became a little bit lighter so I went down to the beach for a walk on the promenade.  I can see perfectly well without my specs so I always take them off when I walk on rainy days. Legally I can drive without them but don't because I have astigmatism.  I noticed that the Battery which was built during WW1 was open so went in to have a look at the museum in the buildings.  The 6" guns which used to protect the harbour are now replicas but still look impressive.  Inside there is a lot of memorabilia about both local things and general material, including an interesting collection of old rifles, machine guns and ammunition (empties).  It was very quiet so I had quite a long chat with the volunteer in what was the magazine, he told me all about how it worked in wartime.  He also told me how worried visitors get if he is showing them things and drops one of the grenades.

 

Then I went along to one of the searchlight buildings where they are restoring an old searchlight, it also has yet more guns along with old radio transmitters and receivers and other interesting things.  One of the other buildings currently has a Bofors gun in it, it is slowly being restored but is not yet on view.

 

They have a big open weekend on May 20th and 21st with demonstrations and mock battles so I'll go to have a look all being well.  Ther are usually a lot of renactors, vehicles etc at the events, representing the armed forces of a number of countries.  It's a bit like going to preserved railways in the early days as you can get close up to things and even handle objects if they are not too busy.

 

By the time I got home the rain had stopped so I've been and checked the greenhouse and had a cup of tea, soon it will be "proper" teatime and then I'll start on a new book.

It depends upon whose train drivers might be in the aforesaid category.  Some will be working.  Not too many on Friday admittedly but a greater number on Saturday.

I concur with your assessment relative to the what I saw of photographs of Grenadier Guards, Household Cavalry and RAF. CNN published this photograph of some RN sailors - which as a counterpoint is more diverse, including women and people of colour.

 

Makes me wonder a little about whether there are some subtle service variations. (I wouldn't be surprised to see units like the Guards and Household Cavalry being more 'selective' regarding representation.)
