The cover story? PINK FLOYD: The Making of a Masterpiece (50 years since Dark Side Of The Moon). FIFTY YEARS!!! Bluddy Hell, it seems that only yesterday I was at a HiFi demonstration at the Fiera Di Bologna listening to the just released Quadraphonic version of the album over special Quadraphonic Earphones. And for me and my friends playing anything off the album seemed an impossibility (but those were the days when cheap guitars [all we could afford] were almost unplayable and effects like the Dallas Arbiter Fuzz Face (BC108), the Colorsound Power Boost, the Univox Uni-Vibe and the Binson Echorec II were totally unknown to us [not that we could afford any of the above had we known about them). Since 1973, DSOTM has been weaving its way in and out of my life (several memorable “life events” had DSOTM as a soundtrack). Plus I can now afford the decent gear that made DSOTM possible - a couple of songs are pretty much on the way to being mastered (‘though I know that I’ll never sound like David Gilmour 😥 ☹️ [I’ll accept “close enough”]). One final thought on Pink Floyd: although Roger Waters alone and PF without Waters have had a few moments of brilliance, they don’t match the brilliance of their collaborative work output. Waters is an @rse he wrecked a great band with his own arrogance and it turned he wasn't Pink Floyd after all and as for his latest political spouting he'd do better to retire and take up golf............................or some other pointless exercise..................... 3 9 2

I wish I could play the guitar 😢 I'll have to stick with Grade 3 (at school) trumpet and a bit of trombone . Oh to be able to play DSOTM, Hotel California and so many others on guitar!. That will have to remain forever a dream in my case! In Other News I might do some gudgeon pin circlip wrangling today and / or experiment with an Arduino and a servo multiplexer that arrived from the Big River yesterday. I only ordered it late afternoon on Monday and, of course, went for the cheapskate free delivery option. The cardboard packaging was even held together with Amazon Prime tape - so glad I'm not paying the premium 😀 TTFNA 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted April 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 6, 2023 Morning - just. Not snot now, just lung glue. Still negative. Norra great night, so rather out of it. A shame as it is neither raining nor cold, I had better go for a walk and get some milk to keep out of SWMBO's way as she is WFH again. Then housework I suppose. Pah. Somewhere we, er, SWMBO has a direct cut vinyl album of DSOTM, I bought it for her before we were married. Jeepers, 40/41 years ago. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted April 6, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 6, 2023 (edited) A'noon...just. Chemist visited and prescription problem (pills not available at all) has been referred back to the doctor for her/him to prescribe a sub. I've got to phone back at 16.00hrs. Sainsbury's (good store) has been visited as well and GF Speckled Hen obtained as Sainsbury's (bad store ) couldn't supply. Also picked up a bottle of Famous Grouse that had a few quid knocked off. A mile and a half has been walked which has resulted in just a slight niggle in The Hip. Edited April 6, 2023 by grandadbob 1

As it happens we had a problem on holiday. We were due to get a car from Adelaide Airport through Rrntal Cars .. well.. at the airport, no desk, no courtesy phone, nowhere to get acsim. Eventually someone rang their number for us.. answered on the 3rd time of calling. They cam and collected us for the 30 minute drive to their car rental depot... nopevit was Hertz.. who have always been someone to avoid. Eventually we were given a Hyunday I30.. too small and not what we were told to expect. It was 5 years old, lowish mileage but having given us the keys... off you go... Navaid was hard to grasp but we did get it going. We had to place our carry on cases on the backseat. Luckily we only had 2 people in it... but we did need to get 2 more in on our way to a friend's house.. Taken until now for them to decide... its all our fault!! What a bunch of less than honest persons... Sorry.. rant over! Baz
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted April 6, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 6, 2023 This morning dawned grey but dry. The cabling works have now reached my part of the road. Yesterday began with the usual breakfast of Weetabix, toast and tea. It continued with the Wednesday kitchen clean. Then I vacuumed the sofa, including taking all the cushions off and vacuuming down the sides and back where coins sometimes end up - I didn't find any. Once that was done it was once again time for a coffee and hot cross bun, followed by doing more Radio Times puzzles and reading a magazine. I had an early salmon lunch then the man came from Plumbs to deliver and fit the new sofa covers. Everything went well, I now have a "soft green" sofa, which goes well with the curtains and other things in the room. It makes a nice change from a flowery pattern. I have been shown how to (fairly) easily get the covers on and off and have washing instructions. The change makes the place look fresher and it is good to have a change. Meanwhile just along the road the Virgin cabling works continued which meant cars were parked on the grass area, fortunately it didn't get churned up despite it being very wet. I spent a while watching from an upstairs window - it's always enjoyable seeing other people working, especially when they are getting on with the work quite quickly. I had a pleasant walk of just over a mile and got further than I have since January before I had to stop to let the pain go off and then continuing. In fact I only stopped once, last time I had that walk I had to stop 4 times Soon I hope to be back to normal but am being careful lifting things. Once again the pain decreased the further I walked, by the time I got home it had almost gone. The evening was reading, TV and some Mozart. RMweb Premium polybear Posted April 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 6, 2023 Bear here.... More wallpaper dangled...task ongoing..... The Bin Man deemed it appropriate not to empty a Certain Bear's recycling bins today. T0sser. The Council's Autosnottogram Form has been completed and they promise to return "within two days" to empty them. I await with baited breath. I see that our new King's missus is now to be elevated to the status of "Queen" rather than "Queen Consort" - which is the very term our own real Queen specifically desired. Hmmm. Bear predicts that Ginge choked on his Rice Krispies when he read that little snippet - judging by those being interviewed on the TV News last he's not the only one. And finally.... It seems the British Public will not only be paying for a Police Force, they'll also be paying for Officers to investigate the Police Force.... Meanwhile, a Certain Bear is to resume Serious Crime once more, as those previously investigating that little issue are now busy investigating themselves..... Fellow ER'ers can therefore consider their cake to be "on borrowed time". The Cake Monster Cometh...... Bear Gone. 16

Decisions made, two double beds to get rid of, that will still leave us with one more bed than we have room for. Several side tables, to go, More later when excavations recommence. Jeepers, 40/41 years ago. Yeah time goes by. I still have DSOTM in LP format (on virgin vinyl [fnarr, fnarr] if I recall correctly), it’s not one of the original 1973 pressings (more‘s the pity) but it is still old enough to have come with all the goodies that were included in the original packaging* (such as stickers and a full-sized double sided Pink Floyd poster). DSOTM, some Perigeo albums (an Italian Jazz-Rock group), an original pressing of Quadrophenia (and a few other vinyl LPs) in my collection, but which have not been played – quite literally – for decades, but are retained because of their special emotional connotations. As most of them were released on CD (but without all the goodies☹️) I listen to them on CD. Musically, we’ve never had it so good as in the 60s and 70s * Do you remember when albums, especially the more ambitious two or three LP albums, came with a whole bunch of goodies – such as posters, stickers, and lyric books or storybooks (amongst other things). And the LP covers were pretty inventive as well: such as Jethro Tull is Thick as a Brick album cover opening up into the St Cleve Chronicle newspaper or the built-in zip on The Rolling Stones “Sticky Fingers” album. The MP3/streaming generation don’t know what they’re missing out on. Edited April 6, 2023 by iL Dottore Typos 14
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted April 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 6, 2023 It's sunny again after a shower (external) so the washing's out. That is the excitement of the day dealt with. A walk of just over a mile and a half has only succeeded in hips seizing up once I stopped, getting really fed up with this now. There don't appear to be any real answers other than 'yes they're very stiff and we can see you're in pain' kind of thing. Steroid injections into various parts have had little or no effect, mostly no effect other than pain having it done. Lost faith on that now. I have a specialist physio appointment at the end of the month so we'll see if that helps, this is with hip pain specialist types pain-giver, sorry physiotherapist, so we'll see if they are able to offer some relief. Getting theraped did help with recovery from the initial injury some years ago.

Bear Gone. CCI GmbH has a series of newly developed cake protection/anti-polybear traps that they are happy to make available to ERs on an “at cost“ basis. One of the most innovative comes from the CCI GmbH biowarfare division and consists of a very large and tasty LDC that contains a virus that is only activated in the presence of polybear gastric juices - at which point the virus starts to work and dissolves the polybear from the inside out. Extreme? Perhaps. But in these days of significant cake shortages, well…. desperate times require desperate measures. 1 1

monkeysarefun
Apart from that song from about 1980 where all those kids whinge about not needing an education ( where are you all now! Huh?!) and the other one with the cash register sounds at the start that current affairs shows love to play whenever they have a story about money, I have managed to get to the age I am without ever hearing a single Pink Floyd song. I've come up with a kind of reverse bucket list which includes things that common sense says I should have experienced by now but due to circumstances or living in the alternative universe that is Australia I never have, and since I've managed to avoid them for so long so far, it is my intention to turn that into a quest to go on managing to avoid them until I fall off the twig. Apart from not being exposed to anything Pink Floyd, I also intend to continue to never see any Star Wars movie, ever play a round of golf and never read any books with hobbits in it. Note, I have nothing in particular against any of these things. 13 1 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted April 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 6, 2023 Afternoon all, No House of Fun today. Instead it was a morning at Kingston Hospital for lung function testing. I was due at 09.00 and arrived at 08.40 which to my surprise made me the first person into the outpatient's department for the day. They were still setting up. At 08.45 I was invited into the "Assessment Room" where my height, weight, pulse and oxygen saturation were measured. Slightly shorter than I give myself credit for, spot on for weight, 65 and 97% were considered to be all "very good". I was then invited to wait in another area for my technician. I sat. I waited. Oddly, I thought, I was alone in a very quiet area with few people passing by. After around 20 minutes I was joined by another patient who was called moments later. After 40 minutes there was no sign of anyone looking for me. I was about to return to the reception desk when a chap emerged from a door and, slightly surprised, asked if I was Mr. ........... Indeed I was. He offered his embarrassed apologies that the computer had not advised him that I was waiting; it showed me as a "late / no show" despite me sitting outside his door all that time. The testing was done, the results will be passed to the consulting doctor who I see again at the end of June. In the meantime no change to the medication. The result was "consistent with moderate-level asthma" which matches what we expected. And once again he apologised for the long wait when both of use were there, sitting either side of a solid door, waiting for each other. Ah well. And in other news it has been confirmed that Dr. SWMBO has not been successful in her recent job application which means, if nothing else, that we are not about to up-sticks and head west. A relief, in some ways, and a weight off her mind which is dealing with more than she feels capable of right now. We can concentrate on selling one house without having to buy another at the same time. For now. On with the weekend. 9
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted April 6, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 6, 2023 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Not a peep out of Arthur Itis since this morning, I hope I'm not tempting fate by saying that. This afternoon we've had rain hail, thunder and lightening all in the space of ten minutes. I've spent the day sorting out the washing which has got a bit behind lately. Speaking of washing by changing to a different program I've cut my washing machine leccy consumption by at least a third and the 'new' program gets things just as clean. 3

Well I have seen and read a lot of films/books with hobbits and have even seen all the Star Wars films, though apart from one of them that I really liked, I wasn’t too bothered. I have never played a round of golf. I did have a go at crazy golf a couple of times at Margate. I was useless. Aditi and I were both teaching on a weekend residential course once. It was held somewhere with a golf course. We had an hour off while the senior staff we were teaching had a management meeting. The golf course was deserted so we grabbed a couple of golf bats and made a new game trying to get the ball in the sandy bits. 5 1 15
