RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted April 1, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 1, 2023 Hay Tor I know I've bagged many years ago. Afternoon Awl. Precipitation has not ceased, every road is soggy many from side to side and flowing down the roads. The RAF Neatishead reunion day went well, I met 2 people I know, both former members of the MRC, both ex RAF electronic technicians in the dim and very distant past. I'm going to make a 1/1000 model of the site in the late 1950s, after chatting to the guy who runs the room i guide in, I can use a table in there to model on, the first thing will be the 4 radars on the site at the time Types 7, 13, 14, 80, examples of which in what seems to be 1 :24 scale are in the room. The biggest radar of the period, is 75ft across, in 1/1000scale that's 23mm, of wire mesh to model.. While perusing a model of a radar I intend to make for Tiree, (1/152 scale) I realised how it could be done. So that too may be worked on while I wait for visitors. I need to make up a minimum tool kit to do the task, so as not to take up too much space, and not to make the place look untidy. Time to make something to eat. 20
RMweb Gold DaveF Posted April 1, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 1, 2023 (edited) Late posting today as I went out this morning despite the damp dark drizzle and cold wind. Yesterday started with a bit of shopping in Lidl followed by a walk along the Quayside but there weren't any ships around - nor birds for that matter. Then I called at the local independant hardware shop - nowadays their main business is as a locksmiths and safe specialists but they have a good stock of other bits and pieces at very good prices and with friendly service. I now have what I need to do some odd jobs in the house in due course. Then it was coffee time and I spent a while sorting out more photos. After a light salad lunch I got out a new shower curtain and bath mat which have brightened up the bathroom. Later on I put some plants I'd bought in Lidl into the greenhouse - some will stay there, others will go in the garden once it stops raining so much. By now it was time to set off on the 15 minute drive to the podiatrist, I got there quite early as there was very little traffic which was as well, as I arrived his previous client was just leaving. All in all I was only out of the house for 50 minutes. After tea I watched some German music on TV then some friends came round and helped me finish off a bottle of English whisky I had for Christmas - which is actually quite good. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted April 1, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 1, 2023 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I nipped upstairs a couple of hours ago and sat down on the bed. Next thing I knew I was sliding off of the bed onto the floor looking at the carpet. Fortunately no injuries occurred and I was alongside a chair so able to haul myself up. Now time for a hot drink and a bite to eat.
RMweb Gold PhilH Posted April 1, 2023 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 1, 2023 Afternoon from a soggy bottom. Not really done a lot today, some 3d printing, but have just spent an enjoyable hour or so watching this, being recollections of railway staff who worked/ work from Kings Cross up to the present day.. Apologies if it’s well known but I hadn’t seen it before.
RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted April 1, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 1, 2023 Evening All, Not a lot to report - cabinet did just over £100 for first week, but much of that because we are new dealers - will undoubtedly settle down very quickly to a more realistic level. We are rapidly running out of logs, fire lighters, and kindling, so it's time to wind the stove down so we can have the chimney swept, and the stove serviced. And that's about all from me for now. Popular Post woodenhead
Today is hunt the pension day - it's a financial kinda week. Seems I have five and at this moment in time I cannot log into any of them, but I do know the value of three of them, have estimated where one might be at and that leaves one gap for me wondering where the deferrment letter has gone if I even got one. Found myself also being forced into online banking too this week, setting up an ISA online was oh so simple compared to three visits to various building societies for me and Mrs W to transfer other savings to better rates. It seems no-one in branch is capable or able to do simple I would like to transfer this x of this into that please. So now I feel enduring online might be better than the stress and anxiety of watching someone trying to send your money where it shouldn't and assuring you they know what they are doing. Oh and next it is "Why has my car insurance gone up by exactly what my wife's has gone down by, even though no-one has made any claims?" before attempting a House insurance quote. The PITA continues, new steroids from the GP to help and I had to do a scrape test yesterday then place it in the smallest container ever. Why does everything seem to all come at once 🤣

Triumph of riders / riders of Triumphs has a nice symmetry.
Ozexpatriate
Today was one of those days where I could not easily decide how to dress for my morning walk. It was raining steadily but not heavily and despite misgivings over a sense that the rain would stop, ultimately I chose that the rain pants were deemed suitable. Five minutes after I set out in what was at this point very light rain, it stopped. Wearing rain gear is almost as good at stopping the rain as washing the car is for starting it. Well before I was home there was intermittent bright sunshine. To add to the collection of daffodils, here is someone's sidewalk/pavement display: They're around but not exceptionally common. Not that many people plant them. More striking was this (which was difficult to photograph with a mobile telephone - the dark shadows blew out the exposure management and I had to manually underexpose it): I'm no botanist. I presume it to be some sort of Camellia. Edited April 1, 2023 by Ozexpatriate Updated flower pic 18

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted April 1, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 1, 2023 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Had a few more rumbles from the arthritis/sciatica but an application of the magic gel sorted it out soon as. Problem is I only have a limited supply so I will have to use it sparingly.

It may be advisable to purchase a small tube if you’re really low and ask at the surgery if you can have another tube on repeat. Ibuprofen and Voltarol/diclofenac are available to buy over the counter but check on the strengths as both are available in two strengths. With mergers, acquisitions and failed businesses it is hard to keep track of where any corporate entity from half a century ago and their pension funds end up. My first employer in the US (starting 37 years ago) actually had a pension plan and I had worked there long enough to be eligible. The pension is now owned by Boeing. They tried to buy me out for a paltry lump sum that would barely pay the bills for a month or so. The full amount won't be enough to live on, but it would be better to have it as designed. It came from my (late) brother, apparently he purchased it by mail order. Its name is VitacT Flexi+, I've tried Googling it but it just shows up Voltarol. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted April 1, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 1, 2023 Good evening everyone We had quite a good day at the Trafford Centre today, apart from the 3 drinks and 2 slices of cake (1 drink and 1 slice were free) we didn’t spend much. We all came out of Waterstones empty handed, although Sheila and I both bought a magazine from WHS and Ava got a book from Selfridges, where we also bought a birthday present for Sarah too. After dinner, Ava and I made some lemon and blueberry shortbread, some of which we had after our tea. Sheila’s not a huge fan of shortbread, but even she enjoyed it! Below is a plate of them, just after they’d. one out of the oven, there’s not that many left now.
