When we lived in Singapore, one morning the bathroom door flew open and Jill ran out, stark naked, shouting, "There's a spider in the bath, there's a spider in the bath......" much to the surprise (and probably delight) of our next door neighbour who was sitting with me having a chat and a coffee. As she disappeared into the bedroom I went to see what the fuss was about and there in the bath was a large bird eating spider (not sure of the correct nomenclature - that's just what they were known as) that looked something like a tarantula and was about the size of your fist (including the hairy legs). Using the old tupperware container and piece of cardboard technique I caught the creature and released it in the garden, whereupon a now clothed Jill came out of the bedroom. Laugh? Well, put it this way, I was in her bad books for a while... Dave 16 1

Not usually for spiders though, usually bees or wasps. After being woken the other night and informed there was a wasp in Aditi’s bedside light I put an upturned glass over it when it moved to the table. Unfortunately the glass still had some water in it. Not enough to affect the insect but enough to need clearing up after the wasp was put outside. Insects and rodent disposal are, definitely “my job”. 12 4 1 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted March 23, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 23, 2023 Today is fine and dry with a mix of cloud and sun. Yesterday I woke very early and couldn't get back to sleep so made a cup of tea, returned to bed and read before getting up at my usual time. After breakfast as RMWeb was down I got on with other things, being a sunny morning I decided to go out for a ride to a different bit of beach. As usual I took some coffee with me and ended up heading north to Cresswell. I had my coffee parked all by myself in the small car park on the cliff. It was blowing a gale so I kept well away from the edge as the rocks below are very hard to fall onto. As usual I took some photos and then moved on to the village where I had a look at another way to the beach, there was plenty of space just to park on the road. Handily the public toilets were open. Then I drove another few hundred yards to the next car park and walked to the beach, I was now on Druridge Bay which was as busy as usual, there were about ten other people in sight along several miles of sand. The tide was out and the wind was blowing the sand around so I didn't try to walk too far. The larks wre singing high in the sky, all in all a beautiful early Spring day. Then I continued in a northerly direction past fields of the usual sheep cattle and llamas before heading inland to Widdrington, stopping on the way to admire the roadside daffodils under the trees lining the road. I just parked on the road, one other car came in the ten minutes I was there. On the way I saw my first lamb, very wobbly on its legs. After that I headed for home stopping at a garden centre to buy a couple of plants. The rest of the day was spent planting the new plants and tidying up a bit of the garden, then in the evening reading and TV. I'll sort out some photos later on and post them. RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted March 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 23, 2023 Bear here...... Wallpapering this morning - a whole TWO strips were accomplished..... ....OK, so one of them was 1000mm wide, which can be a bit of a b'sterd cos' they rather like creasing at the slightest provocation (or even no provocation). The second strip (750mm) was a lot easier. On reflection I should've stuck to 500 & 750mm widths (I wanted to minimise joints) but it's too late now as it was an on-line purchase so not practical to swap. Turdycurses. The second, humongous Rattin' Piggin' Turdycurses is awarded cos' the lining paper (despite being a very heavy grade) isn't hiding the wall imperfections as nearly as well as I'd hoped; It's possible that the appearance may improve once the paper has dried but I very much doubt it somehow. So it looks like Bear is gonna have to use a textured paper (Anaglypta) over the top in order to get a decent finish. Poo. Bear gone. 5

RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted March 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 23, 2023 Afternoon All, A bit of skipping as laptop in use for pricing of items to be put in the cabinet - and went to coal merchant for four more bags of house coal - probably the last we will ever get - but it's quite good, though a but bigger than the nuts we normally use. The merchant said that they got a delivery of 19 tons (tonnes) and was bagging them up - there was a pallet of bags up the side, which had all been bagged, and the bags were sealed - presumably automatically on the bagging machine, then one of the operatives was cutting the sealed end open, as coal can only legally be sold in open bags - many merchants will not even sell bags singly - inisisting on a minimum order or a 50kg sack or six 29 kg bags - still it will all end next month when housecoal is banned from sale. So now we've priced over 150 items, and will be changing the cabinet tomorrow - we repriced a few items, as we felt that they were too dear, abd we don't want to just change the price on the labels - 30747 said it doesn't look professional - she's probably right so we are taking the pieces out, bringing them home, relabelling, and then taking them back. Also a trip to Morereasons as they have some small patio sets on offer for our back garden. Regards to All Stewart 18

Popular Post Ian Abel
BIN day. I am convinced the BIN services have all, in unison, changed their trucks to some clever QUIET variety. I know it's not my hearing as I can hear the morning dog alarms quite clearly, the BIN trucks however seem silent! Yesterday evening service schola singing was, reported by many, excellent, so we'll take that as a suggestion we can actually hold a tune or two 🤣 Following that "success" re repaired to a watering hole for an evening light celebration <hic> Sadly, we received news last evening that our friend Sue, who was in hospice care, had finally succumbed. A blessing in many ways as she was in a lot of pain in her final weeks. We'll be heading to Iowa tomorrow for a Saturday funeral. Tonight, ramping up again with rehearsal as the Easter singing marathon draws ever nearer. Per and/or post rehearsal happy-hours will be welcomed. -5c and sunny at BIN time, high of +1c expected. later. 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 23, 2023 Forgive me father for I have sinned.. I must have done to deserve this... I have battled through in the last hour and half... An insurance companies web site and phone system to pay for BMs insurance. My gas suppliers phone system, "unusual high number of caller's" it always says that... Then got transferred twice, each time requiring a long piece of repeating pinky plonky music? Waiting... Eventually got the next two years contract sorted. Paid for BMs and the motor boats broads tax on line... This morning I left with BM, in tow, got out of the gateway in the Landrover, stopped not a car in sight. Shut the gate, got back in the Landrover, there's a grey Audi stopped six inches from the bumper with an entitled driver looking at me like I'd been an hour..!!! He was most unimpressed when I signalled to him he'd have to reverse to the passing place.. Every passing place to the first corner had to stop to let some one past.., first corner Is about 20ft radius, mercedes come other way, can see me coming, does he stop on the wide bit of the corner? no... hammers round, I have to brake, then he stops in front of me, then he has to reverse to the wide bit. Rest of journey (10 miles) fairly uneventful, I pull over a couple of times to let cars past. Arrive at the club to discover that there are 6 boats queuing to go in the water,. 2 to come out . Remove mast from Landrover, untie BM from trailer, (ratchet straps). Remove covers / hatches from BM. While waiting sailing compatriot arrives we go over to Kittiwake to strip her down to load her on crane. Manage to jump the queue a little as the others are having a tea break, launch BM, load her up with covers hatches and the mast and boom lying on deck. Tie very long rope to BM, walk to bridge towing her. Then do the canal horse towing trick, up over, down, round and under bridge, tie BM to bank. Others in queue have restarted, we head to cafe for coffee and very nice steak pies. Have trouble getting Kittiwake across to crane, very strong wind turns her sideways.. get there eventually. Lift Kittiwake out. Many dozen turns on handle, much harder lifting boat out than putting in. Starts raining.... Temporarily put BM in Kittiwakes winter mooring. Truss Kittiwake up on her trailer.. Since we are now alone, I put crane away. We hook up our trailers he leaves, i follow, but stop to lock gates. Drive home without problems. Didn't go via the orange shed, as it too darn windy to put a sheet of ply on roof of Landrover . Will do some measuring shortly to get sheet of ply cut to size tomorrow. Then it might go inside .. I think I need a eyelid inspection.... 22

The sgt's mess, asylum seekers accommodation.. Popular Post iL Dottore
For @Winslow Boy Winslow Boy slowly rode into town, his eyes beneath his Stetson squinting in the hot Arizona sun, a rivulet of sweat slowly making its way down through the stubble on his hollow cheeks. He dismounted in front of the railroad station, a battered and faded sign proclaiming that the building belonged to the Tucson, Phoenix and Strawberry Hill railroad. A grizzled old timer, wearing a typical railroad workers uniform of slogan T-shirt, Bermuda shorts and Doc Martins, slowly got up from his rocking chair. “What can I do for you, son?” asked the veteran railroader. Winslow Boy replied “I’m looking for someone who calls himself, iL Dottore”. “The Doc?” chuckled the old man “at this time of day, you’ll find him at the @polybear igloo bar and pizza parlour” Winslow Boy turned to go. “Wait a minute son” said the old timer. “We’re pretty friendly in this town and I’d like to know who I’m dealing with. I’m @Gwiwer and you are…?” Winslow Boy hesitated, then slowly replied “some people call me The Man with No Sheds“ Winslow Boy pushed his way through the double doors and into the cool gloom of the saloon. He marched over to the bar, where a stocky individual in a cook’s apron covered with wallpaper paste and flecks of paint was slowly polishing some glasses. Winslow Boy put a gold $20 piece on the counter and said “a bottle of your best mescal, some hay and water for my horse Barbie, and I wanna know where’s iL Dottore” The man in the apron slowly took the gold piece off the counter, placed a grubby bottle and a polished glass in front of the Winslow Boy and yelled at a scrawny youth “see to the hoss”. He then looked at Winslow boy and nodded towards a crowded table and answered “over there”. Winslow Boy took his bottle and glass, and slowly made his way to the table. At its head, and the centre of attention of the ruffians around him, was an elegantly dressed tall thin man with a shock of immaculately coiffured white hair. “Take a seat boy“ drawled the tall thin man with a big grin. “I’m iL Dottore and these are my associates: Crazy Q, Shotgun Puppers, Flyboy Hunt, Tony Psycho, Smiley GrandadBob and Le Rosbif” as The Doc said each man’s name, they either nodded or laconically raised a hand. “And you are?“ asked The Doc, “They call me The Man with No Sheds” replied Winslow Boy” The saloon went deathly quiet. RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted March 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 23, 2023 Bear here..... ....unexpectedly....... Brace yourselves for a MegaRant...... ......those of a nervous disposition should look away now...... BluddyBluddyPiggin'Rattin'[censored]Fuggin'Poo'in[censored][censored]MegaTurdycurses...🤬🤬 For the very first time in, well, WEEKS a certain Bear has been rather looking forward to attending the M.E. Evening Group tonight...... Wallpapering stopped early, College Project stuff sorted, sarnies made, Bearmobile loaded.... ....and Bear heads off into the wide blue yonder p1ssin' rain..... And what happens? The tyre pressure warning light appears on the Bearmobile about 2 miles from Bearcastle. Turdycurses. So I dived into a suitable turning to check - yep, looks bvggered. Double Turdycurses. And it's still p1ssin' down..... So out with the ten quid Home Bargains 12v Tyre Compressor to pump it up enough to hopefully get me home without sh@ggin' the alloy rim. It managed it, but it took a looooooong time, suggesting the leak is a good 'un; I also discovered that the valve core wasn't sealing properly as soon as I disconnected the pump - as to whether this is the only problem remains to be seen, but I suspect Bear isn't that lucky..... Anyway, the Bearmobile is back on the drive with alloy rim unscathed; new valve cores are on their way from the Big River and will be delivered tomorrow. I have a spare in the boot but I wasn't gonna go grovelling with a jack in the rain, and then regret doing so at about 3am when "The Paw" decides to give serious merry hell to A Certain Bear. As for College, well maybe next week.... Bear gone.
